Great price, fast service, and most importantly amazing workers. They were honest with all of our options and helped us find the most cost efficient treatments for our puppy. The only reason they aren't getting a One Star is because they are nice.We have been bringing our dogs here since we got them about 7 years ago. During that time I have REPEATEDLY tried to get them to correct my name as they have it as "Melissa"....still to this day it has not been changed. But I digress from the major reason for the low review, let me get back on track.We brought our dogs "Yogi" (A aussie/malamute) mix and "Bear" (A husky) in together for their annual check up, shots and to discuss some concerning matters. For starters the vet started to address Yogi's "skin problem"...when Bear was the one with a skin condition....seriously the photo is right in front of you and they do not look alike, how do you mess that up??? Thank god they weren't staying overnight for 2 different surgery types!!Once the shots are given and prescriptions are assigned I wrangle the dogs while my fiance pays. We go out to the truck, pull out of the drive when he asks me what the most expensive item is on the bill...The most expensive item on the bill is a charge for 60 pills that they never provided us. They sent us off with an RX to get filled elsewhere, they did NOT provide the actual pills! We flip around and go back so he can get a refund. He goes in and they claim they can only credit a portion of the amount but don't really say why. He comes back to the car and we start to drive off again. As I am looking at the bill again I notice more charges for an intestinal scrape that we did not have them perform....to the tune of almost $24 PER DOG!!Again, we turn around, go back to the vet and park. I sit outside before sending the fiance back in and do a full assess of the receipt and initial credit.We were charged - $1.32 per pill for 60 pills that we were not provided$23.50 x 2 for "intestinal scrapes" that were not performedWe were initially credited - $1.16 per pill for the 60 pills we were not providedI am not real sure why they felt the need to try to keep 16 cents per pill but when I sent him in I had him make sure we received the CORRECT amount back.All in all we were overcharged more than 25% of our overall bill to the tune of over $125 in excess fees!Sadly, now it makes me question every other time we have gone into that vet and wonder just how much money we have overspent by not going over our bills with a fine tooth comb,Needless to say, we will be looking for a new vet. I recently took my cat in to get his teeth cleaned and x-rays done. He's been wheezing and coughing, was thinking there was something wrong with his lungs. The vet, Dr. Black, was super nice and really gentle with our cat. He examined his teeth and said he didn't really need to get them cleaned. It's pretty rare to find someone honest enough to turn down money, we were prepared to pay to have them cleaned. So that was awesome, showed he cared more about my cat then making a few bucks. Found out my cat has a tumor and it's destroying his lungs. They did a really nice job running tests to see how his blood was doing and all his organs. Dr. Black called me back with the test results 2 days later. Everything just went really well, they were all really nice to work with. They seem to really care for the animals, not figuring out ways to get money from customers. And that's an A+++++ for me. Read Less

My dad has taken his dogs to Dr. Black years before I have, and recommended this vet to me. Lorrie is the manager there and like a second mom to me. She always comes out of her office to say hello to me and my pets. The compassion that comes with the service is an important trait for any business, and they hit the nail on the head here. Animals are our family, and Dr. Black knows exactly how to treat them. He is a friendly, knowledgeable, to-the-point kind of vet. His passion is to do everything he can to help heal your fur baby, and not try and rake your pocket book. His advice has been reassuring and valuable. I am the kind of owner where my pets are the only kids I will ever have, and they understand where I am coming from when I freak out about something that is minor or major. These people saved my kitten's life after she had a bad accident. They were very caring, and let me come in and hold my kitten whenever I wanted. Of course her treatment was expensive, but I still felt it was very reasonably priced for 4 days of hospitalization. Dr. Stewart was the main doctor during my cat's hospitalization, and I loved her. Dr. Black took over kitten's care on her last day there, and he called me first thing that morning. I truly appreciated their communications and compassion for my kitten. The staff was equally as great, with getting text message and called in updates on her status over the weekend. I switched kitten's full time care here, and I don't plan on going anywhere else!Read Less

My family recently moved to the Tacoma area. Our four legged, 7 year old, family member was in urgent need of dental care. She has very poor oral genetics, and not being able to afford annul dental care for her, her condition had become a very serious! We needed a vet that would help us help her. Who would put her needs first, and was both professional and empathetic.  We found that and more at the, Canyon Road Veterinary Hospital.  We can only repay all of them by telling all of you how grateful we are for the care they provided us.We have found our families new Veterinarian. I contacted this office today to set up an appointment for my dog. The lady who answered was more than happy to help. She got the appointment for us in no time. After doing this I informed her that I had some concerns that I wanted to speak with the vet about when we got to the clinic. The lady asked what they were and I told her. She immediately informed me that they in fact could not see my dog tonight because she wanted to make sure that herself and the rest of the clinic got out of work before closing. I am so appalled by this response. I was under the impression that a veterinarian was supposed to not only keep appointments, but provide care and support for your animals who are by extension your family members. The fact that she turned us away after already stating that they had the availability to then turn around and say on second thought yes I told you we can see you tonight and we have an appointment for you to... Um... No I'm sorry your appointment might involve a urine test and medications so we don't have time for that. That is completely absurd! I am so disgusted by the treatment I recieved by this woman. I can only assume that her attitude of getting out of work before closing is more important than the well being of the animals they care for is carried on by the remainder of the staff. Do not bring your loved ones to this place. Obviously they care more about themselves and not being inconvenienced by a simple urine test and the prescribing of simple medications. Read Less

Love this vet and staff!  Both vets are wonderful.  I have gone taken my animals to them for about 6 years.  They are compassionate and caring.  They are not pricey and really care about your animals.  I had to have 2 animals put down and they worked me through the process with care.  Your animal is always #1 here.  Recommend them for sure!! I took my sick kitty here for the first time today and I am very thankful that I did. Dr. Black is very knowledgeable and was very thorough with the exam. His entire team was very kind and helpful and they all greeted me with a smile! This office was recommended to me by a friend and I can definitely see why. Even a gentleman in the waiting area said "You're going to love this place!" and said that he has several vet clinics closer to his home but he still choose to go here. That made me feel like I knew my cat was in great hands. Great location and easy to find and very reasonable prices. Thank you to everyone who helped me with my sick kitty. I should have wrote this sooner, but I am newer to Yelp and wanted to make sure people knew about this. I got a new dog, had him for about a week and he started to have runny feces. I called and the vet asked for a stool sample. I took one in as soon as I could. 2 days later I had to take my dog to the emergency vet because his stool was bloody (sorry this is somewhat graphic); turns out he had a bacterial infection. Once my dog was on the road to recovery, a few days later, I remembered I had not heard back from Canyon Road Vet. I called them and they said everything came back fine. When I told them my dog had a bacterial infection they told me they had not looked for that in his stool. Not only should they tell you what they are testing for, because I would have asked for the bacterial test, but regardless of the results, I feel they should notify you. I felt their level of service was quite unprofessional. Read Less

This is the best vet I have ever taken my pets to.  The entire staff is very dedicated to my pets and their care.  My dog can be a handful around strangers and they treat him very well.  I'm usually embarrassed by his behavior but the vet is always kind but careful in handling him.  They have always given us great advice.  They also do not hold you up for services provided.  I've been to a couple of vets where I feel like I am being bled dry of money.  I've never felt that way at canyon road. Dr. Black has been our cat's vet since we adopted him. He always gives him good care.  We needed to go out of town on short notice, so I opted to board him here, since they could take care of the fecal analysis right there. I was very pleased with drop off and pick up. Our cat was well taken care of. The kennels are by a big window, so he was able to look outside, which he loves. The price wasn't bad either, including the analysis fee. I will definitely board our cat here in the future. Read Less

Ok.... I listened to the Yelpers and you came through for me again.  Dr Black and his staff were courteous, the facility was clean, I was seen right away and the bill was a 1/3 of what I would have paid from my old vet north of Seattle.More specifically, Dr. Black was nice, caring and even apologized for not being able to do much for my dogs issue.  I knew going in that a paw injury was no going to need much attention, but since I was going to be traveling via plane, I just wanted to give her a clean bill of health.  Regarding her allergies, and her history of chronic ear infections, he was informative and NOT pushy for me to buy things.Thank you to the staff and Dr. Black for being part of Maggie's care.  Hopefully I will not see you soon. We've been going to Dr. Black at Canyon Road Vet for 10 years..and love them!! They use to be in a little building off of 84th and Canyon (8412 Canyon Rd E) and named Canyon Road Vet...they moved a few years back to a new bigger nicer building (15114 Canyon Road East) and changed the name to Canyon Road Veterinary Hospital.They are very caring and their prices are very reasonable. I would never dream of going to another vet!!They always fit us in when we need spur of the moment medical issues looked at (and we've had our fair share). They are up front about cost and can help you make the best decision for your pet.They listen to you and never try to pitch or sell you anything that isn't necessary for your pets care. Our dog loves Dr. Black and the staff there..getting dog treats always helps too..you feel very comfortable talking with them and you know you can trust them. Only the best for my baby girl!!
