My cat had a true medical emergency. I took her here because I heard good things. Since it was an emergency I did not have an appointment. I explained to the young girl at the front desk that my cat had a seizure and now couldn't use her back legs. I was first asked if I had an appointment. Which I did not. Then I was asked if I had ever been there before...again, my answer was no. I was then told by this young girl that they were in the middle of their vaccine clinic and I would need to take my cat to another clinic. I explained that I didn't think she would be alive by the time I got to another clinic, but that didn't faze her. I took my cat to Puyallup Vally Animal Hospital just down the road where they quickly worked me in between a couple of other appointments. My cat was in shock and severe pain from saddle thrombus. A blood clot blocking her artery and preventing blood flow to her back legs. She was immediately put to sleep. In all my pet owning, animal hospital working years I have never experienced a clinic turning away a medical emergency. I'm not sure what their goal is at East Main, but apparently it isn't what is best for an animal in need. I will never take another family member there. I will never donate money or supplies again and I will stop recommending this so called animal hospital to anybody because they don't have the animals best interest as a priority...at least not for my baby. From my impression, even if you walk in the door with a pet that was dying on a Saturday morning, you should expect to be turned away because giving puppies and kittens their shots is much more critical. We were in need of a new family member to train to help me with Anxiety in the public. We visited initially to see one Dog of interest but soon found Dash appealing. We put in a application and over a week later were approved, we found out his past life from what they knew and met up with him one on one to test for any bad behavioral problems, he was seemingly there under bad circumstances not because of his actions. We thought we found our guy in Dash and took him home another week later. We brought him home and he was good with our 1 year old daughter but he was a run away! It doesn't matter what we did to keep him in he just found a way out and he got out to hurt other dogs. He attacked 4 dogs while in our care for a week. He could have killed 2 of the smaller ones. He chased cats for fun also. It didn't matter calling him he might as well been deaf!!! He tuned us out to pursue a fight!!! We took him with us on the last night we had him to a restaurant to pick up food and the second we opened our car doors to get out he hopped over 2 rows of seats over our laps and out our doors, 1 hour later we found him attacking another dog. It was the next day we turned him in before he hurt some one or a pet. Dash is unlike any dog I'll ever own again, needless to say as a dog lover, he could ruin anyone's opinions on a dog as a security blanket. He was not our style of best friend, we trained a dachshund to walk off leash and never did that dog attack another pet. Dash is to NEVER be off leash, with another dog or a cat in my opinion !!!!! but If your interested in him look into Whippet's before adopting! Know what you're in for! For Sunny Sky's Animal Rescue:Went here for a supposed dog adoption. Went here with an excited heart, completed paperwork, entire family (2 big eyed kids who are excited to take home their Christmas surprise gift) and a hopeful husband with a fat wallet for our chosen pet. They made us ogle and hold this beauty. The volunteer even checked our printed paperwork and spoke to us althroughout. At this point, our outlook is positive. The volunteer was upbeat. My hopes kinda got dashed when the volunteer said we can take her home once she's cleared medically. After endless admiration of all the pets, we were ushered to the lobby to await their decision. Thirty minutes later, we were told to wait for their phone calls that night or the next day... or few days later. There was no phone call and there was no mention to possibly adopt another dog as this place is really full to the brim of rescued pups. The sad thing is it seems this process is normal to adopt a dog. I guess we just fell right in the crack of red tape. We applied to so many rescue organizations but no one wants us to adopt a dog. We live in a big house, I'm a stay at home mom and we have the resources to keep a dog. I guess that wasn't enough. Our last option to get a dog is through a breeder. So much for trying to do good here. For those of you who think we need to show extreme interest to adopt a pup, we don't have the luxury to court the volunteers to let us adopt one. Read Less

I am writing a review about the rescue portion of the facility. First off, the facility is just filthy. The kennels are all filled with pee and they take in too many dogs that they are unable to properly care for. They aren't rescuing dogs if they are just sitting in a small kennel in their own filth. This place needs to be reported to the city. I'm not sure who would even trust their animals to be take care of by the vet services here, maybe they haven't seen the back of the facility. Before you adopt here make sure to read all their rules. I find the rules just ridiculous. They keep the microchip in their name so you cannot rehome the dog in the future if there is a problem. You cannot transfer the dog to another family member either. If the dog runs away and is found, you have to answer to their facility about why the dog ran away and they may not return the dog. It is your dog!!! They aren't rescuing animals here, rescuing animals is about finding them a good home and trusting the owner to take care of the animal. About giving the dog a chance. They seem to just be more worried about hoarding dogs in their facility. It's just sad, these animals deserve a good chance and this facility truly isn't giving it to them. Read Less

My wife and I adopted 2 wonderful puppies from Sunny Sky in February. 2 days after being home with them they both presented symptoms of kennel cough. Without getting into to many details, 1 month later one of our puppies died from pneumonia, and our other is still dealing with kennel cough. I am more then understandable of the fact that animals do die prematurely sometimes. Although the response from the shelter was just unbelievable. Not a hint of empathy, no words that remotely resembled an apology, and multiple calls that were not returned and questions that went unanswered. We were informed from the staff that our puppy would recover, we were massively misinformed. The shelter is terribly unkept, the receptionist is particularly rude and unprofessional (I won't say her name). I have been in contact with the City of Puyallup about scheduling an inspection as well as a story for the news tribune. I can not describe by disdain for my experience with this animal hospital. My sorrows go with the animals that are still there. Read Less

I would highly recommend adopting from Sunny Sky Rescue. I adopted a 5-year-old maltese mix from Sunny Sky Rescue in July 2013 and I'm very pleased with the friendliness of the volunteers and coordination with vet and vet staff. The dog I adopted was posted after midnight on Saturday early, early morning the day that he arrived from California. The picture on the website was not a flattering photo but I'm impressed with their commitment to get their dogs adopted as soon as possible. I arrived promptly at noon on that Saturday and fell in love with the scared, shaking maltese mix. He was fixed on Tuesday and I was able to pick him on that evening with a volunteer who stayed late. The microchip him under the shelter so that you and the shelter are technically co-owners.So the next day, my new dog, Toby, decided to eat his stitches. The vet staff was willing to see him instantly to make sure he was okay. After examining Toby, Jessica explained that there were internal stitches were intact so Toby would be okay. She also coned him -- which isn't easy cause dogs don't like that...With the information packet I was able to deduct that my dog had kennel cough (common for shelter dogs, and appears weeks after exposure). I attempted to take him to a nearby vet but due to the contagious nature of the infection I was turned away and told to come back later at a scheduled appointment. I desperately called East Main Animal Hospital and the vet staff called me back to coordinate what antibiotic to give my dog according to his symptoms and weight.I'm a pharmacist by profession so TWICE I was very impressed with the vet staff's willingness and commitment to the health of their rescue dogs.Since adopting Toby, I've learned that Sunny Sky is a no-kill, non-profit shelter. They rescue a lot of dogs from California. (And isn't it cool that a vet opened up an animal shelter?) I also liked them on facebook and they post the picture of the dogs that got adopted. It sure gives you warm, fuzzy feelings to see a rescue dog get adopted. :)So if you can't adopt, support Sunny Sky Rescue!P.S. Like I said, Toby's 1st day photo is not as flattering as he turned out to be. After he filled out a bit and got daily grooming with a comb, he's a beautiful maltese mix. So don't judge a picture! This was a Tuesday we couldn't get there till Saturday. We asked them to hold her they said it was against policy. We prayed that she would be there. I called Friday night and she was. She weighed 1lb 7oz and 9 weeks old when we brought her home. She is 10 months now and weights 4lbs 5oz. The staff was very nice and helpful. They made the process easy pleasant. We would definitely adopt from them again.Read Less

( Returned For Aggression towards other pets. )Read Less

The application was long and very detailed, you can tell they put a lot of time and effort into finding each animal a forever home. I would definitely recommend them to anyone who is looking for a rescue. Thank you to everyone there, we are very happy Harley is adjusting well :) Read Less

My experience here has only been with treating my cats and dogs with the veterinarian services and I am very pleased with the professional and courteous treatment. Dr. Berton and her staff are knowledgeable and compassionate. Six years ago my older dog needed to be put down and they had me come in at the end of the day where the Dr. and her staff quietly sat on a blanketed floor around my dog and let me stay until I was ready to leave.Dr. Berton is also a remarkable surgeon. Her diagnosis was spot on. With two of my pets that had difficult surgeries never a complication. The attention that Dr. Berton gives each animal is outstanding. I always feel confident that when I bring my pets here they get the best care. Read Less

Read Less

They knew every single dog by heart where as other shelters when you asked about a dog most of the time they didn't know which one and you had to show them. Illlina Berton, DVM, didn't just save the life of our beloved orange tabby- though that would have been enough - she, and the entire, incredible staff of the East Main Animal Hospital worked to ease our cat's intense pain (after having been attacked by dogs, our cats internal organs were hanging from his abdomen upon arrival), while also easing some of the financial burden on our family. They went above and beyond; at every turn showing their true animal-loving colors.
It was the sort of thing that restores one's faith in humanity.
One month later, our cat, Floyd, who was on death's door, is alive and well. Illlina Berton is a skilled surgeon, and EMAH is staffed by certified saints!Read Less
