I had the most OUTSTANDING appointment. I was greeted with superb customer service, followed by a warm and friendly, not to mention knowledgeable dr. Casey. This place was everything I was looking for in a vet. I am big on "mom and pop" business', this place is exactly that. I hate corporations. I met Dr. Casey for my kitty Isis. She was becoming an indoor cat and I had noticed she had a worm in her pee. A full segmented worm. Of course having an 8 year old and two indoor dogs I panicked. We got her in for an appointment with no issue through email. I asked for a price quote and they stayed on top of it. The only addition was a $20 rabies shot. That I was not at all sold to on it. We asked. I will be bringing in my dog who is turning 2 this month for a shot update and check up. I know dogs and cats can be a little different so we will see how that goes. Everyone was very friendly and the Dr. was very talkative in a good way. We drove here from Roy and he even mentioned a closer private clinic if my drive was too far. But 30 minutes is really nothing to me and I will continue the drive. I am a happy furry mom. Read Less

This was my fourth Vet to try since moving to Washington State two years ago. The reviews for this Vet were great, so that's why I decided to take our Golden Retriever to him. Dr. Casey took our Golden off Apoquel and referred us to the Tacoma Dermatology Vet Clinic. It didn't take long for the excessive paw licking, recurring bacteria infection, & ear infection to return. Hands down best vet we have had. Dr. Casey is amazing with our cat who can be very standoffish and doesn't like strangers touching him. We've had previous vets who had to sedate our cat in order to do a normal checkup. That was devastating! But Dr. Casey knows exactly how to handle every situation and our cat even let him shave part of his lower lip to check out an injury from a fight with another cat. I was shocked and awed! It was such a relief to see my poor injured cat being taken care of so diligently with the understanding that he isn't the most compliant kitty-patient. The staff is so friendly and knowledgable. You really feel like a priority when you are here and Dr. Casey takes his time with you to explain every situation and possible concerns or action plans to better the health of your pet. Puyallup Valley Veterinary Clinic was recommended to us by a friend since we have moved to Spanaway from Kent and no longer take our pets to the vet in Bellevue that we had used for years. Our very first visit to them was with a sick German Shepard, that Dr. Casey saw and then referred to another vet in Tacoma that he felt would be better suited to treat our dog. Our dog ultimately was diagnosed with cancer and passed away a couple of weeks after the diagnosis. That being said - We appreciated that Dr. Casey felt that it was in the best interest of the pet to be seen by a specialist and not try to treat him himself. While I am sure the end result would have been the exact same, it just goes to show that they want what is best for the pet - not the bottom line. We will continue to bring any pet that we have to them as I am very confident that they will not get any better care anywhere else.Read Less

Molli and I went to Dr. Casey. He gave Molli, a yellow lab-German Shepard mix, a full first time check. She is six and half, but we moved across the country. I loved the personal service, the explanation of what he was doing, and the advice on weight and food.Most importantly, I didn't feel he was ever trying to push more product or more procedures. I also felt he was trying to win my business. He did. Plus, the staff was great. They welcomed us and made Molli feel at home. As we were leaving, they invited us back to use their scale to work a bit on her weight. Today I left very disappointed in the way I was treated by Dr.Casey. My dog had a annual checkup so we could put her on Trifexis. He preceded to tell me she needed a heartworm test done which was not mentioned when I made the appointment and he gave me no option to do it or not. I asked about a bump on her toe and he preceded to tell me how serious the issue was and that he put in for blood work...not once mentioning how much this could cost me to get out the door. So I asked because I didn't want a $500 bill at the end when I walked in only expecting to pay $100 or so. He said with an attitude" well it will be much more than that" and yelled to the back for them not to do it. Then told me he was treating her ear infection again keeping the price a total secret...when I preceded to ask he replied with "about $40 so what you don't want to do that either today?"!!Then continued to tell me how obese my dog is even though she was down 6lbs since the last visit which was probably 3 months ago. But because I can't feel and count her ribs she needs to lose more weight!! What a joke this dr is! I am beyond irritated with the way he treated me. He treated me like a young poor kid that couldn't afford a dog! First off I can afford everything my dog needs, but when you want to make money so bad and don't want to be upfront about prices I WILL go else where. To keep business coming back I think he needs to control is attitude when asked questions we have the right to know, not continue with treatment until you talk and confirm everything with the person paying and respect the owner decisions!!!! Absolutely awful vet. The girls were very nice however the actual veterinarian was a total ass. He poked my dog in the eye, was not gentle when giving him his shots, and told me i should be feeding him a diet high in corn meal (?). Not to mention the prices were outrageously high. i have been taking several generations of Golden Retrievers to Drs, Casey and Karen for almost 15 years. I drive about 24 miles one way to go here and I will not take my dogs anywhere else. My dogs run, wagging, IN the door of this place. The care they receive is absolutely top notch. Healthy, happy dogs is what i have- due in part to Casey, Karen and staff. And at a fair and reasonable price. If i could be attended to by these wonderful Drs. and their staff, i would be. I trust them explicitly with the very things i value most- my animals. Spot on diagnoses in a timely manner, great surgeries, wonderful recommendations and options given with love. my greatest fear is that they will retire before i die. i love these guys. my dogs love these guys. I took our little Westie there for her chronic skin problems. After seeing the vet once and was given a treatment of meds her fur is growing back on her legs. We also had allergy testing on her. Now she's much better! I would definitely go back again! Read Less

I don't recall exactly how long I've been a client - about 4-5 years with 3 of my kids (cats and a dog). I'm the pet owner who does as much as I can to care for my kids. They've seen all of my kids for routine care (yearly exams and vaccines) and plenty more. I like this clinic for several reasons - it's a family owned business (husband & wife team), the Kime's went to WSU and I've always loved their veterinary teaching program and even worked at the hospital while a student there. At one point there was a 3rd vet but we only saw her once. The staff is always amazing, kind, understanding, knowledgeable, compassionate and helpful. When I go in, they always recognize me and my pets by name. They're more than willing to work with you in how services are paid for. They can even tell you of a cheap and easy way to treat fleas with Frontline. They like to give follow up calls to see how your pet is doing and offer a chance to ask any questions you may have. When I first started going I lived in Bonney Lake. I now live in Tacoma but still go out of my way to take my kids here because it's well worth it.Cat #1 - when I first brought her in, she was grossly overweight. We mostly saw Dr Casey while I had her. He started helping initially with her diet plan. Because she was a "kibble snob" and wouldn't eat canned food, I worked with them to find a plan "B." I learned about different types of dry food and was given information about brands/recipes to try. One of their vet techs, Pam, helped me farther once we found a food - using calories! She will calculate how many calories your pet needs, find out how much is in your food and calculate exactly how much you should be feeding for weight loss. (They can also help do this for weight maintenance.) Last year she got ill one day. We don't exactly know why. Within a few months there were more signs of illness. At this point she was seeing both Dr Casey & Dr Karen. Though there wasn't a good way for me to know exactly what was wrong, we had a lengthy phone conversation about all of the diagnostic test results, possible diagnoses, options and likely prognosis. When I lost her I opted for a private cremation. When I got her back there was lots of sweet surprises for me (that made me sad but I'm happy to have). My favorite of these is a clay heart with her paw print and name (with a heart to dot the "i") on it. There's also a butterfly on it. I remember laughing through my tears when I opened it because the paw print was so large. (My kitty was about 20lbs when I lost her.) Cat #2 - this kitty has only seen Dr Casey.  Mostly routine care though we had one "non issue" as Dr Casey called it once we were seen. I was able to call in to calculate the calories in her food and how much she should get each day to maintain her weight.Dog #1 - this dog has only seen Dr Casey. He was under socialized and with our first visit Dr Casey was respectful and knowledgeable with meeting him and handling him. (I didn't like that he was labeled as a possible biter because of his under socialization but I do understand because with an under socialized dog there's no way to know how they will react in a situation until it happens.) When he came in the room he immediately sat on the floor. We did our chatting and we proceeded to the rest of our visit. Prior to touching him, he'd allow him to sniff his hand. If he used any kind of instrument he allowed him to sniff that as well. The next time we went in he asked how the socializing was going and he didn't need to sit on the floor or have him sniff everything before handling him.I always have and always will highly recommend Puyallup Valley Vet Clinic to anybody searching for a vet clinic! After taking my cat to nearby VCA where I was treated rudely, upsold and charged an outrageous amount I promptly made an appointment here.My cat had crystals and received Laser treatment- it WORKED and was affordable.I'm really  impressed with Dr Casey who is out going, friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable. I was so glad to find this vet! Dr. Karen and Dr. Casey were extremely helpful. My cat hadn't been feeling well and was in need of care ASAP. After visiting the emergency vet I wasn't pleased with the service and help.  I found this vet and was so relieved.  Both of the doctors came in to check out my cat and provide information about options and care.  They were very thorough and caring.  They both told me what they would do if it was their cat and also other options.  They made sure to check in with me after each visit to make sure everything was ok.  I couldn't recommend them any higher.
