I would give this clinic zero stars if I could. I have an elderly cat that I have been giving another kitty’s medication to. Trixa has been showing signs of hyperthyroid for almost a year. Because I just moved from Everett to Tacoma I had no regular vet and no vets were accepting new patients. I put off taking Trixa to this walk in vet because Trixa is very frail with seizure disorder and renal failure. So I just kept on giving her a low dose of the meds I had left over from another kitty who had passed away. Over time these meds had gotten soft and I was worried they were no longer helping because Trixa was getting very thin. Then Trixa developed an eye infection and I knew I had to take her to this vet. While we were there I explained to the vet about Trixa’s suspected hyperthyroidism. I agreed to a test to check her levels. It was more than the amount I have paid for geriatric tests in the past, but I paid it because I knew Trixa needed help. The test came back showing her “in the gray area” which didn’t tell me anything. To know what her thyroid levels are at the vet tells me I need a second equally as expensive test sent out to a lab. (At this point I am wondering why the first test wasn’t sent out. Now I have paid twice as much as what I have had to pay in the past to have her thyroid levels checked.) But I agree to the test because I want new fresh meds for my kitty—not 14 mo old leftovers from another cat. So the results come back and Trixa does indeed have hyperthyroidism. The vet tells me to double her current dose. So I ask about coming in to get the meds. He asks me how many of the old pills I have left (???????). I tell him 30. Then he tells me, without asking to see the bottle, check the condition if the pills, how old they are, or even if they are the correct meds) to just use them up first and then he’d prescribe new meds. So I do this against my better judgement. Then about a week before the old meds are gone I call requesting meds—new meds for Trixa. Then I am told I cannot get new meds until after I bring this frail little kitty in for yet ANOTHER thyroid test AND another exam. I have tried for weeks to beg this clinic for meds for my kitty. I am on disability and all I can afford are her meds, which she was never given after the vet diagnosed her. The clinic manager stands behind this vet’s actions and now my kitty has gone 15 days without any meds. And they do not care. ALL they are about is getting more money. I am totally convinced the vet deliberately put off giving my kitty meds (forcing me to give her substandard care with old expired meds) just so that he could require I pay even more money for a third test and another exam. This is not a place to go if you love your animals. I will never set foot in this place ever again. Oh, and I am demanding a refund for the tests that did nothing to help my kitty, and I am filing a complaint with the BBB and WA State Veterinary board. What was done to my Trixa is nothing short of cruelty and pure deliberate negligence. Below is a picture of the bottle of meds the vet never asked to see, but wanted me to use up on my kitty—meds that were never prescribed for her. Read Less

This is a very good clinic for your money. Their is not alot of bang for your buck here, it's straight forward efficient veterinary service. As soon as you walk in, they have you sign in with their given time to ensure order. Then, if your there on the weekend, be prepared to wait a good 30 to 60 minutes. The waiting area is simple, small and cramped but it works. The exam rooms are no different, very sterile and clinical, no frills. The vets we have worked with have ALWAYS been very kind, efficient, fastidious and knowledgeable. When we left there, we left with our arms and legs intact as well so it was as the name implied, value. We appreciate this lower cost clinic and the vets here, thank you. Well continue to keep coming back. Read Less

This is a good place to go as long as you watch the fine print and ask if things are really needed. Especially when it comes to any kind of surgery, even teeth cleaning. Also, you don't need to agree to a lot of things have on the estimate. Many of them are not needed. If you can afford it and you have an older dog, then go ahead and do the blood tests. But make sure they give you a copy of the results! Same goes for xrays, get copies. I ended up paying almost $1800.00 for 2 dogs because I agreed to things I the dogs did not need. This started as a teeth cleaning! I kid you not! The vet we saw was Dr. Ames. Stay clear of him. He barely talks to you and he does not give you the results of tests. Normal or not people need to see the results and have copies of things in case you see another vet or specialist. For the rest of the staff they are wonderful and super nice. But they shaved both my girls' legs to get veins. I was lived. Both dogs with 2 of their legs shaved to the skin One more thing, they don't take appointments so try and get there early, or be prepared to wait awhile. Especially if you have kids with you, which I never recommend taking kids to the vet in case something bad happens they do not need to see or be a part of. Just my opinion. Read Less

I went here instead of my regular vet because I was hoping for a less expensive, urgent but not emergency visit. It was like pulling teeth to try to get value pet clinic to address the main reason for my pet's visit - a sinus infection - and I just needed antibiotics for him for now. They kept pushing an elderly pet blood panel, a dental cleaning that would require anesthesia, a myriad of eye tests, etc. etc. I had to keep explaining that I had come there instead of my regular vet because I couldn't spend several hundred dollars right now. I will definitely go back to my regular vet clinic after this experience, it's expensive, but much more pleasant and professional. Read Less

If I could give zero stars I would. They ran blood tests on my cat for a condition that will never ever go away. No problem, do the tests. Each month after that (when her medication for her condition was needing a refill) they asked to do more blood work. The first time I thought "okay, they are just be thorough and want to see if she's improving." Now they want to run blood work every single time she runs out of medication. Every.single.time. They refuse to give her medication without the test. Even though they know it's a condition that will never ever go away. It's like asking a person with a known disease and testing them every time they need a refill. It does not make sense. If you can afford to go somewhere else do so, they will try to wringe you out off every drop of money you have. Read Less

When my poor kitty had crystals, I brought him here instead of our regular vet due to financial constraints. They gave him TWICE the treatment for HALF the cost! Our other cat, taken to our regular vet years earlier for the same reason (but with MUCH more severe symptoms as we did not know then) had one urine test, two labs, and was sent home with antibiotics and a prescription diet. The total cost was around $600. My cat, seen at value pet clinic, was tested for every possibility, even though they were pretty sure it was crystals, just to be sure. It was, plus a uti. He was sent home with Valium to make it easier to go, PAIN medication, antibiotics (after also receiving them & fluids iv), and the same prescription diet. They treated him so well. They even kept him for several hours for observation. When I talked to my mother about it, she said if our other cat ever gets sick again, we know where to go. Grand total for him was around $300. They trimmed her nails wayyyyy too damn short and then she develop an infection in her paw. They put something on her nails to keep her bleeding but no one told us. I will definitely go back to my regular vet clinic after this experience, it's expensive, but much more pleasant and professional. Read Less

This place has decent doctors, but the customer service from the front office staff is terrible. They are rude and like to tell you "how busy they are" for every situation as an excuse for their poor service or rudeness. We fully understand what a busy office is and have waited over 2 hours to be roomed multiple times without complaint. But when they take over 5 hours to simply X-Ray our dogs leg it becomes un-excusable. Do yourself a favor and just go find a regular vet...

Make sure you know all your options for trearments or medication as there are sometimes a less expensive option. Must remember that this is a business, a business that tries to capitalize on every transaction. My experience was very good. Jen was helping me up front and made it easy. I will be coming back. I used to love it here, till they did something. I went in with my mom to get her dog nails trim and medication for pain. And they would now allow us to watch them trim her nails, so they took her out back and then we get her home, and later on her paw is covered in blood. They trimmed her nails wayyyyy too damn short and then she develop an infection in her paw. They put something on her nails to keep her bleeding but no one told us. I took her back to explain and their excuse was that her nails were black. They offered to give us antibiotics that we would have had to pay. I honestly have no trust at the Value Pet Clinic in South Hill.Read Less
