Norton Ark Veterinary Practice is the most caring, knowledgeable and economical. My Bulldog has been coming here since he was just a puppy 7 years ago. My Breeder recommended taking him to Nortons Ark. Dr. Norton is amazing with all pets, but I really find her unparalleled knowledge to Bulldogs, Frenchies and Pugs to be refreshing (most Vets just don't have the experience with these flat faced breeds). Over the 7 years of going to Nortons Ark there were 2 times I had to take my Bulldog to a different veterinary practice because Nortons Ark couldn't get him on the schedule. Both times we went to a different veterinary practice I was very disappointed in the lack of knowledge around Bulldogs.  I did not have confidence in the other Veterinarian and was less than impressed. I trust Nortons Ark with my Bulldog and I refer my friends, family and neighbors with pets to them. It is refreshing to have a veterinarian only recommended necessary treatments instead of trying to upsell unneeded services or treatments. It is true that this veterinary practice  is unconventional, they do not have a full time reception which is a great way to save the customer money, the fancier the office and the more employees they hire, means the more you have to pay.  You will also drive to their office in a residential area and down a dirt driveway. You will wait on the patio outside for a few moments until the appointment before you is done.   Once inside the appointment room is welcoming, clean and sanitary. Not having a fancy building, fancy waiting room, full time reception etc. means leaving a voicemail and getting a call back from one of their employees.  If you don't hear back within 8 or 10 hours just call to leave another message.  If you want to pay 3 or 4 times the price to go to a "Conventional" veterinarian in a pretty building with lots of staff trying to sell you their products, services, food, etc that is your prerogative. The clinic is located in a residential area which could turn some people off (and if you are that person, this veterinarian might not be for you) as they do not rent a fancy building or suite in a corporate business park. So instead of complaining about their unconventional practice, remember that you will be saving money while getting your pet the help and care it needs from a professional, caring and knowledgeable veterinarian. I am impressed to see the thoughtful way they save their patients money by not having excessive overhead costs while offering extraordinary care.  You will notice all of the reviews are either 5 stars or 1 star.  Your experience will completely depend on your expectations and attitude. Yes- it is true that the clinic here is a bit on the non-traditional side, per se. It isn't a rented commercial property, and it isn't your average veterinary clinic. I will be honest- the first time I came here, I wanted to turn my car around and leave, thinking I had made a mistake. But at the time, my french bulldog was in immense pain, and we had an emergency situation on our hands. Going in to see Dr Melissa Norton was the best decision I have made for my dog. Period.As others have already said, Dr Norton has unmatched experience in working with the "flat faced" breed, and if you are in need of any type of diagnostic or helping your dog feel better, this really needs to be the first place you go.Bulldog owners will understand this next statement I am about to make, more so than any other dog owner alive. And that is, our dogs are TRULY a part of our family. These little guys are the best thing that happens to a lot of our lives, and because that is so, they are also the biggest heartbreakers when they get sick.I was sketched out by this place at first, even from trying to set up an appointment. I left voicemails, had my dog's breeder send them an email, and had to really work to get a hold of them. But don't let that process deter you. Keep at it, and get a hold of them.After having visited this place, and meeting the doctor first hand, all of the inconveniences of finally getting an appointment here seem like ancient history. It's a non issue. Why? Because Dr Norton helped my dog. My primary vet, and even a visit to an ER vet, proved useless in helping my dog feel better. Dr Norton diagnosed and put my dog on a 7 day treatment plan that seems to be working great one day in to the treatment.The only thing I wish of this place is that it was closer to my house. We have been taking our two dogs to Norton's Ark for about 12 years.  We have two Lhasa Apso's.   During the first 10 years Dr. Keith would visit our house, which was fantastic.  He even neutered both dogs in his mobile hospital just outside our front door.   Sadly Dr. Keith is no longer practicing, but Dr. Melissa is   just as wonderful.   Our dogs are happy and healthy, some days they think they are still puppies.   After trying out another vet last year, just because they were closer to the house, we regret it.   We will make the trip to Dr. Melissa Norton as long as she is in practice.  Her knowledge and advice is simply the best.   We had a real scare with one of our doggies recently, he passed out, and online info I read made it seem like he had a "mini stroke".    We went to see Dr. Melissa the next day, and turns out he was just fine.  Just a minor fainting incident.  She did not expose him to massive testing / needles and such like other vets probably would have.    We just love Norton's Ark, and will never go anywhere else from now on.   Simply the BEST care for our beloved pets that we have ever experienced. I've known Keith and Melissa for over 10 years and they have been wonderful vets to my 6 +/- dogs. I've had animals all my life from hamsters to horses and I have always been very happy with their care of my "children". I have total trust in their care and diagnosis/opinions of my animals care. Some vets may have the most expensive, professional looking services offered, but perhaps their care is not as knowledgeable as what I have found with Norton's Ark. Their facility is smaller and to keep costs down to their clients they have trimmed some of the fluff. My viewpoint is best described as; Have you ever had a favorite book and through the love of the book it has perhaps some wear on the covers of the book, but the content is so valuable you cherish the book? Their establishment doesn't have "wear" but it is smaller and to so many of the animals; both rescue and clients, it is oh so valuable to people who know what excellent care of those animals means.Read Less

The Nortons provided care to my 2 rescue pugs for the remainder of their lives. I had taken my little female to a vet for ear infections when I first got her and for $450 was told she much have surgery and part of the bone removed to save her life. I decided to take her back to the Norton's who flushed her ear, gave her steroids and charged me $12. She was fine. At 11 surgery would probably have killed her. They know pugs better than any other vets in this area, provide inexpensive care at the expense of beauty and at time I agree cleanliness, and love their animals. I boarded my pugs there as I knew I could count on Keith to care for my ancient female pugs needs and listened to him when he said it was time to put her down. It has taken me over a year to write this review. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE TO PURCHASE A PUPPY. We were referred to Melissa Norton, by Bellerose French Bulldogs. After driving up North to visit the french bulldog puppy available, we were astounded by the disgusting environment, kenneling of dogs, and the supposed vet clinic room. The puppy was adorable and our hearts immediately went out to him. After bringing him home and having his first check up, we discovered that he had giardia and many other numerous ailments. We almost lost our puppy, but we wanted him well taken care of and out of that environment. We spent nearly $1,000 on vet bills and medicine to nurse our puppy back to health. I contacted Bellerose and Melissa Norton, but no one would return my calls or emails. Very tragic, but our puppy is thriving and in a wonderful safe environment. I purchased an english bulldog from these breeders December 2012.  It's true the record-keeping isn't the most proficient, & it's not the cleanest environment.  However, Melissa Norton does have an active license: fortress.wa.gov/doh/prov….  Most of the time I have to leave a voicemail when I call, but returned calls are usually very prompt. As far as my breed & value of dog goes,  I think he is superior quality and the value was amazing.  Everywhere I go, I'm stopped by gawkers, especially fellow bulldog owners, who compliment me on how amazing the dog looks: from his bite to coat to stature.  The dog has no health problems (now 22 months old). I have taken him to another vet that is closer to my home for checkup.  That vet (Dr. Bob in Mountlake Terrace) has also specifically complimented me on the health & appearance of my dog.  If you're high maintenance, expecting perfect record keeping & spotless vet clinic for your pooch, probably not the place for you.  But if you have reasonable expectations that a place where animals are cared for is going to be a bit unkempt, this place has great value and can't be beat. I highly recommend them.  If you're looking for a quality english bulldog to buy, these are the people you should look to first.  They gave me pictures & papers for a number of generations of my AKC puppy. I don't understand how this vet has any recent reviews during the last three years, because his license was suspended in 2010 and even it it hadn't, his license expired in 2011.I came here once, shortly after we moved to WA (around 2008).  Someone recommended this place because it was cheap and my dog needed his teeth cleaned.  It was cheap, I'll give them that.  I remember they charged $125 for teeth cleaning, something that normally costs $300-1000 at any other vet.  My first impression of "Dr." Norton was that he is a right wing nut job.  He had all this anti-Obama hate posters on the wall and had Rush Limbaugh blasting on the radio.  I was trying not to judge him for his politics, but he's just such a sheep.  He started cleaning my dogs teeth in front of me, I could have done without seeing that.  They gas dogs to knock them out, and your dog acts like it's fighting for his/her life as the sedative hits them.  My dog started pooping all over himself, "Dr" Norton did not flinch or react to it so I grabbed some paper towels to wipe my dog off so he could have some dignity.  It was just barbaric looking, the way they clean dogs teeth.  I was sorry I put my dog through that, I knew then I would never take him back.  I didn't care for "Dr" Norton, I didn't care for his politics, I didn't like his care of animals.  When I was there it was a cold February day and he had a litter of tiny puppies in a fenced in area on his deck, out in the cold.  It was just cruel.  It makes me sad that people still continue to patronize this place even though he isn't licensed. I was turned onto these guys through a friend that had gotten a rescue dog from them. Yes it is true no fancy office and yes they wear jeans and sweat pants, however, they give excellent care and would NEVER hurt an animal. Dr. Melissa even gave me her personal cell in case when my Dog gave birth she had any issues to call her in middle of the night to help me. Ended up that I had to call her and they opened up at 5am to do a emergency C-sec on my dog and saved her life and the life of 2 pups...I will always be grateful for this. They did not charge me a crazy fee for the emergency and Dr. Keith did amazing work on my Dog and you would never know now she had a C-Sec. He is amazing at surgery!!!! I trust them completely and will always use them and only them for all my animals needs. You will not ever find a better more fair priced Vet! If you are wanting the fancy office and everything to be spotless and spic and span and want to pay the High office Visits and see your vet for 5 minutes and pay crazy money for all of that, this is NOT the place for you. However, if you want Docs that care, are honest and give you there time and speak how it is to you...You will not ever find a better Vet and will be lucky to be able to go to them.. I know all my animals needs are met and taken care of and we have had our males fixed by them, new litters delivered by them and all follow up care. We have always taken our dogs there for any health issue and have nothing but amazing care at a amazing price. It is too bad that there are not more places like this. However, I know we will never go anywhere else!!!!! In the last twenty plus years that I've owned pets I've tried several Veterinarians - most of them overpriced and impersonal. A friend recommended us to the Norton's a few years back and we're never going anywhere else! Dr. Melissa is who we regularly see and she is wonderful and caring! And every time we have called, we get a call back. It may not be on the same day, but always by the next day unless they are closed for the holidays or weekends. It really surprises me to read the few negative reviews on here. Dr. Norton is and always has been wonderful! And yes, their clinic is a bit old, and I'll even admit the first time I drove down that old dirt road to their clinic, which is an extension of their home, I was a bit skeptical. But the bottom line is they've always taken great care of me and my pets. The last vet clinic I was at was beautiful, had state-of-the-art equipment, the Vet was professional but not overly friendly, and charged $120.00 per office visit that lasted 15-minutes. The Norton's Vet clinic is older, but clean. Their prices are very reasonable and Dr. Melissa is the best. After my experiences here, I won't be going anywhere else! Read Less

I was not impressed with vet at all. Very unsanitary, does not answer their phone, and extremely unprofessional. I brought my cat to have him put down (very upset) and he showed no compassion at all and appeared like I was truly a inconvienence to them. I will never recommend or go to this vet again. Drs. Keith and Melissa Norton have been my vets since 1988 when I was referred to them by another vet in Bellevue. I've never looked back. They have provided veterinary care to all my dogs over the past almost 25 years and that's been a total of 15 dogs - 4 of which are present patients. They have been wonderful from day One. I've always been able to be accommodated in an emergency and on occasion they've come to my house when circumstances necessitated. They are truly caring, funny, compassionate and excel in their broad knowledge of most things veterinary. If referral is needed for specialized care they do so. Their prices are affordable and you are paying for excellent veterinary care without all the trimmings of a plush office building nor the anonymity or feeling of being in a cold hospital-like environment. I couldn't imagine not having Keith and Melissa as my vets as the confidence I have in them gives me peace of mind that my dogs are in the best possible hands. In one word they are the BEST. Don't pay attention to the ""few"" negative reviews. It is unfortunate we live in a world where people simply judge based on their own, personal criteria rather than looking at all the information out there. Sometimes no matter where you go if your pet is sick it is unfortunate that the doctor gets blamed instead of the sickness. The facts are Dr. Keith and Dr. Melissa are compassionate and caring Veterinarian's who are always there for their clients. Their licensed facility is an extension of their home on their property; it is old but clean. And everyone there is very down to earth and very honest. Upon referral from a few friends, I've been taking my dog's to the Norton's for nearly nine years and I wouldn't think of going anywhere else. Every time I go in they are friendly and yes, tell the occasional unorthodox joke. Quite frankly, I find it refreshing that they're not like many other ""corporate"" or ""chain"" Veterinary clinics, and that they're willing to share a laugh or two with people. Furthermore, as other reviewers have said, their prices are very reasonable. The simple fact is you can't make everyone happy. These two Vet's make almost all of their clients and pet's happy. 16 years, 1 cat and 3 dogs later...that is how long i have been going to keith and melissa. their prices are affordable and i never have the stress of thinking that i won't be able to cover the cost for their care of my animals. i wish i could say that about other vets i have had in the past with their over inflated costs. it's ridiculous. and to the people who complained about keith...get over it! at least someone in that room had a sense of humor. and i'm sorry for the person who lost their pet, but it sounds like you are insinuating that they purposefully let them suffer and then die needlessly! there probably wasn't any way to save them...believe me i understand the pain of losing our babies having recently lost a wonderful dog 13 years young,,,which by the way keith did everything to help me save! as far as the conditions, i haven't had an animal get sick once from leaving them in their care. you're probably a germ freak! to sum it up: if you are looking for someone who is unconventional then Norton's Ark is the place to go. especially if you own a pug, a bulldog or any of the brachycephalic dogs then i highly recommend them.... but if you are looking for (and btw this is what you are paying for) a pristine and expensive environment in a strip mall or one of those brand new fancy buildings, being met by a receptionist with 5+ other assistants running around in their scrubs, with restrictions and uptight insurance policies and regulations as to why you can't even place your own dog on the table or go into the back with your animal,,,, and NO JOKES (?) come on,,,,PLEASE stop....don't go see the nortons. I took my little French Bulldog to ER for a horrible discharge emanating from her vulva, and was told she had a life threatening condition that could kill her at any moment and she needed an operation IMMEDIATELY!! The bill for the ""visit"" was $200.00 - The cost of the surgery was going to be well over $2000.00!! That day I took her to Norton's on the advise of the breeder, and they gave her some penicillin and a tube of ointment and sent us home. Her condition cleared it up in less than 24 hrs - Cost: $70. The ER vet had charged me $35 for looking at a swab under a microscope, and inflated the findings to scare me into paying for unnecessary surgery, putting my little one at extreme risk! Melissa Norton said to me over the phone that the ER diagnosis sounded fishy , even before I brought my girl in!! Now THAT'S GOOD HONEST VETTING! Read Less

Despite his suspended license he has been treating animals. His facility is disgusting and unsanitary. He is abusive to animals. Don't be fooled by his low prices and ""good old boy"" demeanor. Norton's Ark was great while it lasted. I took my puppy here for her pre-purchase check-up and for her first two sets of shots and Dr.'s Melissa and Keith Norton were both fantastic. I looked into a LOT of vets in the Eastside and Greater Seattle area before setting on Norton's Ark; after reading a number of reviews, it just seemed like these vets knew what they were doing and definitely cared for their patients (especially the smushy-faced ones). Was I a bit weirded out when, on my first visit, I drove into a residential area in Redmond, down a dirt road, to their "office", which was really just an add-on to what looked like their home? A little. The waiting room was nonexistent (unless you counted their outdoor porch) and the equipment wasn't shiny and new and 21st century. But the Nortons' care, humor, and practical, get-things-done attitude really appealed to me and their very budget-friendly prices sealed the deal. I called them on Monday to schedule my puppy to be spayed and was disappointed to reach a voicemail message saying that they would no longer be operating in the near future. I was not only sad because they had quoted me $100 for the procedure (whereas other places have all quoted something between $200-$500), but also because they were willing to answer questions about my puppy's health over the phone and they just really CARED. I doubt I'll find another vet in Seattle like the Norton's (not at this price point, anyway)...It was great while it lasted.I was thinking of taking a star off of this review because they closed their doors so abruptly without sending out a letter or calling their clients to notify them but couldn't bring myself to do it. These two are the best!  My girlfriend and I adopted a Frenchie and the breeder suggested we use the Norton's and after getting to know them and their practice as well as using a few others first I can say these guys are amazing!  They are also the vet associated with Seattle Pug Rescue who we got our female pug from.  Dr. Keith is a VERY funny person as people mention and I am always in and out very quickly.  I drive almost an hour to get to this amazing vet and would happily do twice that for them.  Like others have said Norton's Arc is the one place to take your pup if they have a smashed up face.  I won't ever go anywhere else. The Nortons were recommended to me by the breeder that gave me my sweet, wonderful English Bulldog Dude.  They have not only been there for me 100% through the health issues that you can expect when you bring home a bulldog, but they have made me feel welcome in their clinic whenever I have been there and helped educate me on the 'why's' and 'how's' with anything that Dude has presented.  Whether it has been a late night emergency call for an allergic reaction or a random 'bump' on his tummy that I couldn't explain, Dr. Keith and Dr. Melissa always call me back and walk me through homeopathic and affordable remedies for him if possible, or have us come in right away for treatment.  At the end of every phone call they let me know that they would love to check up with Dude in a couple of days to ensure that the suggestions did solve the issue.  THE MOST IMPORTANT item that I would like to share with everyone out there is the that the Nortons saved my dog's life.  They did is selflessly and with the most compassion you could ever ask for when your dog is fighting for it's life and there is nothing that you can do to help them.  Dude stayed with the Nortons for a week demonstrating some of the most negative symptoms that you ever see in a pet.  He dropped almost 20 lbs. within days and wouldn't/couldn't eat, couldn't get up to go to the bathroom, couldn't even lift his head.  Dr. Keith woke up every morning and changed Dude's bedding, gave him a new I.V. (with his daily cocktail of meds that Dr.Keith felt would help him stay alive and fight for improvement), and then called me and updated me with Dude's current condition almost three times a day.  Even on the days when they felt there wasn't much hope for Dude, they continued to fight for his life and take care of my baby as I had to hold a full time job while all of this was going on.   They would let me stop by and snuggle my baby and give him little words of encouragement and hear my voice.  Thanks to every single effort that they made during this extremely tough time for Dude, Dude is now the picture of health, back to his normal weight, and living a great life at home with me.  Although I have already said a ton, I cannot begin to say enough about the Nortons.  Thank you Dr. Keith and Melissa Norton for saving Dude's life.  I am forever thankful for you. I have recently been referred to Dr. Keith and could not be happier! I took 4 dogs, 2 spay and neuter and 2 for basic shots and rabies. He was great to all of my kids! His clinic is such a refreshing change from corporate america. It isn't hospital steril but is not hazardous to anyone's health either. I found it to be a very serene and calming place. I will, and have referred him to everyone I know with pets. He is up front and honest, doesn't gouge every penny out of you. PLUS!! Toe nails were included with all the services!!!! After loving the puppy and my two girls falling madly in love with him, he got deathly ill a week after we purchased him. He unfortunatly was not able to be saved and passed away 10 days after we got him. The vet we took him to advised it was due to unsanitary conditions and had developed the bacteria illness by walking in his and the other many puppies feces. I would try and call to to the ""vet"" and would only get voicemail, I had to speak through a third party person and the vet would never contact me directly. Dont make the same devestating mistake we did. If anything good can come out this it's that it can be stopped from someone else. Read Less

I've been taking my dogs to Dr. Keith Norton for 12 years. I feel so fortunate to have him as our vet. He has saved me hundreds, if not thousands of dollars caring for my dogs. He does not charge for unnecessary tests and he gives good advice, especially when it involves the sensitive issue of when it's time to put an older pooch to sleep. His facilities are not fancy and may put some people off; however, that's okay by me. It only frees up more of his time for those of us who feel blessed to have him available to care for our pets. Keith and Melissa Norton in my opinion are one of the few honest vets in our area. They are knowledgeable and do not ""guess"" at a diagnosis and then charge clients overinflated prices for something that is not needed. They know their stuff and often times are able to diagnose a problem from sight. If it's a routine problem any vet worth their salt should be able to do this-however Nortons are the only vets in our area that I have seen do this. The rest will run test after test after test in an effort to get your money. They are also one of the few vets in our area who will give a discount to rescues. The breeder we bought our French bulldog from highly recommended Norton's Ark due to the fact that they specialize in flat-faced dogs, which have very specific medical needs.  The Nortons breed their own pugs and Frenchies, so they really seem to know what they're doing.  Dr. Keith is a really funny guy who will give you very honest advice.  We've brought our puppy  there twice--for shots and for a castration.  Both times we were in and out very quickly.  Their prices are extremely reasonable--he only charged us $80 for the castration.  As the other reviewer has noted, they can be difficult to get in contact with since they work out of their home and don't have a receptionist.  The only other possible downside I can note is that the clinic is not very clean.  I was a bit surprised that there was no separate operating room for our dog's castration, but it hasn't seemed to affect the success of the operation. Dr Keith is the best vet we have ever been to and we have had dogs in our family for 30 years. You get to deal directly with him on care issues for your pet instead of having some receptionist trying to translate a doctors chart for you. He is the best at what he does and I would be very nervous taking my pets anywhere else. Not just because you get ripped off elsewhere but mainly because the level of care at Nortons is so much better. Our beautiful one year old Lab was neutered by Dr. Norton over a year ago. We are bringing our female Lab in for her spay. Dr. Norton and his team offer no frills vet care. You don't pay for a receptionist or the office rent in an overly priced strip mall! I saved over $100 having my Lab neutered at Dr. Norton's office. Spaying & neutering is so important, it should be affordable for everyone, not just for low-income households. I'm glad I found a vet that is not having me pay for all the frills at their office. Norton's Ark specializes in the brachycephalic breeds. They are knowledgeable and no nonsense sort of people. Keith has a good sense of humor but tells it like it is. Their business is located next to their house, so they're pretty much always there. They take only established clients in emergency situations. I'm always amazed at how little they charge me ($90 for a spay, $30 for an emergency visit on a Sunday). I've never had them come to my house, but they do home visits. The one con is that they are difficult to get hold of, but I totally recommend them and trust them. Read Less

I have been using the Nortons to care for my golden retreiver puppy for the past few months. They are no hassle, no nonsense vets that get me in and out the door for not too much money and a feeling of trust in their care for my dog. If they had a listing for pet hero's, Norton's Ark would be on that list. He helped a friend's dog that was delivered to a different clinic and because she couldn't pay up front for a $3000.00 surgery they told her to pick up the dog within 2.5 hours. Helping my friend I sought out a reference and was given Dr. Keith Norton. He welcomed ""Fu"" and not only saved him from an unnessesary surgery, the cost for everything was less than what the first clinic charged for ""keeping the dog comfortable"" until he was picked up.
