Outstanding vet with exceptionally high standard of care. Dr. Monahan is a nationally recognized feline specialist. I've seen each of the vets who work there, and they are all caring and compassionate. I've referred multiple people to Atlantic over the 7 years I've been a customer, and each has been just as pleased. In addition to excellent care, Atlantic's business policies are straightforward: they always give you a price range in advance, and work with customers to deliver the best care without breaking the bank. The thing that will most radically increase the price of a visit is tests. In my experience with Atlantic, they'll tell you which ones you really need to do, which are good to do, and which to do just to establish a baseline. On my last visit, there were $150 of recommended tests the vet said weren't necessary, so we ended up not doing them. I appreciate that kind of integrity. The first time they see an animal they like to get all their own lab work, but if you can't or don't want to do that, they aren't judgmental or condescending. Let's face it, high quality care isn't cheap. In my experience, Atlantic's charges are in line with other high quality veterinarians in the Seattle area. Even if they were more expensive, though, I'd still take my pets to Atlantic: the quality of care really is that high, and having a good vet who you trust is important. Read Less

I was originally referred to her by a Board Certified feline vet who has served with her on national committees.Briefly, the standard of care is exceptional. I have seen every vet in the practice in the 7 years I've been a customer, and would comfortably recommend any of them. Their business practices are entirely straightforward -- as others have mentioned, they let you know in advance what charges will be incurred. They recommend tests only when actually needed. Perhaps most important for me, they truly consult with pet owners, working together to achieve pet wellness without breaking the bank. I have also referred multiple people to Atlantic over time, and all have had similar, excellent experiences. I've been to several vets in the area and this is by far the best. They might be a bit more expensive than the Rainier Beach Vet, but trust me, you get what you pay for! When my cat started to have issues urinating, they diagnosed the problem and kept me informed while she stayed for observation. She ended up needing surgery to remove a urinary stone and the vets were very accommodating. I was so worried and they gave me tons of information and called me right after the surgery. The vet even gave me her cell phone number in case I had any questions or concerns. Both of my kitties now get all of their care here and I will never bring my cats to another vet! Yesterday I noticed my cat drooling so gave her an once over and discovered she had a hard lump growing on her jaw.  I called my vet to book a same day appt., but they wouldn't fit us in.  That's when I called Atlantic.  They saw me within a few hours.  Unfortunately I ended up putting my kitty down.  She was 19 and I couldn't see making her go thru surgery and more pain.  They made sure I knew all the options and possible outcomes before I decided.  And we're very compassionate throughout the entire visit.  I value the time they took with me because today there is no question I made the right decision even though I'm hurting.  I will be moving my other animals over to Atlantic. Atlantic Veterinary Hospital is very solid. Their staff is super kind and knowledgeable as they were able to help get one of my cats feeling better after a rough weekend. Their office rooms where you and your pets wait are fairly small and cramped with no toys or entertainment while you wait for the vet, but otherwise they are a very good vet. Read Less

Atlantic Vet has been caring for my dog since he was a puppy and he's now 14 years old. The staff is friendly and the vets there are nice. They are responsive to emails which is great! If you let them know that cost is an issue, they will give you alternatives for lower cost treatments. The only caveat is that I hear that this vet hospital costs more than other places. The wellness plan is awesome, wish that existed when I was a poor student. Instead of getting one expensive bill for routine check-ups, it's a lower monthly fee spread across the entire year. Simply the best. When I moved here a year and a half ago they took care of my aging boxer, who lived to 16!!! Some things they recommended were natural remedies that worked best (no money for them, but relief for my aging Boxer).They care for my brothers two dogs, and today when I got a New St.Bernard, they squeezed me in today to make sure he's healthy!They are ever accommodating, up front about costs and pricing, and care about the health, and well-being of your dog more than making money! My family has been bringing our cats here since we got our very first cat in the early 1980's. They took such wonderful care of our family cats that when my husband and I adopted two kittens, there was never any question where we would go for their medical needs. Everyone there is super nice and they all care about our babies. The cats love everyone there, too! Our dog was cared for by Atlantic Vets well for over a decade. We were very happy with the care both by prior owner (Battinger) and current owner (Monahan).  It is always clean, professionally staffed and pricing seems to be standard.Update: We recently determined it was time to day good bye to our old friend. Though heart breaking, the staff was so caring and compassionate during the process that they made it less wrenching than it might have been. Love this vet! I brought my kitty Jesus in when he showed up with a wounded leg and could barley walk. They saw him right away early in the morning and took xrays, only to discover his leg was totally out of socket :( Apperently this is not a common surgery and to have a specialist perform it (recommended) it would be $3.000... HOWEVER the veterinarian gave me multiple options along the way sensitive to my budget as far as medications and even surgery. She said a veterinarian felt comfortable performing the surgery there for nearly half of the price, and that she had successfully performed it before. I was so releived giving I didn't have the entire 3 grand in my savings. The surgery was a success! And Jesus is 100% back to normal and healed. Not to mention everyone there was so nice and genuinely wanted to help me fix my broken kitty. I would definatley recommend this vet and appreciate everything they did to help!Read Less

First, this is a mixed review, meaning that I have had both good and bad experiences which averaged out makes them "A-OK" in my book, and also meaning that I will continue to take my furred family members here. I don't know about you, but choosing a vet that is close to my home is muy importante to me. When an animal emergency strikes, I can't afford to drive too far in order for them to receive medical care because when your little guy or gal is not feeling well, minutes can seem like YEARS. Atlantic is conveniently located right off of Rainier Ave S. and is easy to access with their own parking lot.  They get 5 stars for Elma and Jamie returning your call for an emergency appointment. They are always quick and I appreciate the empathetic approach when we discuss my critters. The not-so-positive experiences have mostly stemmed with the previous owner, Dr. Battegier (sp?). To reflect another review I read, his approach was vague, and I never seemed to know what I was paying for.  Bedside manner was not a strong suit either, but that is neither here nor there since he no longer owns the clinic. So I was pleased to learn that ownership had changed in between the last times I was there. Bedside manner and post check-up communication from one vet was not so good (1 star) but my cat's problem was fixed, so I can't complain too much. On the other end of the spectrum, I highly recommend Dr. Roberti on the bedside manner tip! She was soooo descriptive and informative that I nearly burst with happiness when I had to bring my dog in not too long after my cat crisis because I felt well-informed about what I needed to consider as options. The other vet that I did not jive with well DID do me a solid by not charging me $15 for daycare services when they heard I was returning with my dog--which I thought was cool after our last awkward conversation we had (4 stars). Really, I thought that was pretty darn nice.So again, all rounded out, I recommend them for convenience, competitive pricing, Dr. Roberti and the vet techs! They are our neighborhood vet. Read Less

We've been seeing Dr. Monahan for the last year, since my cat was diagnosed with diabetes. Dr. Monahan taught me everything I needed to know to manage Toby's care at home, was responsive and thorough in her assessments of him. Toby also was seen once each by Dr. Roberti, and by Dr. Echentile, who discovered the cancer that would eventually take his life. The staff has supported my family in more ways than I can say - they are professional, respectful and caring. In the end, Dr. Monahan came to our home to put Toby to sleep, and I will never forget her utter compassion towards him and me. Her love and understanding of animals and people are apparent, and her manner that sad day helped make that awful experience so much more peaceful than I could have imagined. Eternally grateful. I have to admit, I was a little apprehensive when the new vets took over Atlantic Vet Hospital, but they've been wonderful! My cat George is no easy customer when he's away from home, but Dr. Monahan was gentle, professional, and had him purring. Dr. Robert Echentile totally missed an easy diagnostic and as a result my dog is dead. If my dog had been treated when I first noticed his lymph nodes being inflamed and brought him to Echentile 4 weeks ago, we would have had him around and healthy for another year if not more. Instead he told us that there wasn't anything to be concerned about. There were many signs that things were not right - he ignored/dismissed them all, despite our concerns. I loved that clinic when Dr. Batteiger had it, but he is no longer there, this clinic is not the same, don't be fooled by the good reviews - Dr. Batteiger was great and took care of our pets for years, he wouldn't have missed that one.
