This vet hospital has been our go to for over a decade. We have said goodbye to fur Family there; had joyous first vet check up there for new buddies; through all of it they have been compassionate, thoughtful, knowledgeable, and most of all every vet we have seen there over the years is truly an animal person. We are currently seeing Dr. Sowell who is amazing with our nervous (and huge!) tabby as well as our new pup, he goes above and beyond as everyone there does. Best vet in the North end. Read Less

The ONLY and absolute best Veterinary Hospital in the entire Seattle area! This is the only Vet that I will step foot in. All the staff from doctor to VET technicians all are easy going, down to earth and honest folks. You can't get a better group of people who genuinely care as much as you do for your four legged family member! They do awesome with all types of breeds of dogs and can cater to many types of behaviors. All in all if you want a veterinary that will treat your pup the same as they would treat you during a doctor visit then This is the place for you to be! This vet was recommended to me, and I already love everyone there. I have a diabetic cat, Willoughby, who suddenly needed a lot of tests and care, and I so trusted him at this compassionate place. As someone who works in the veterinary field, I have high standards for all types of veterinary care, especially general. My kitty, Clovis, is definitely a handful when on the spot for examination, vaccines, and blood/urine draws. This was my first visit to Aurora VH and I am more 100% than pleased with our experience!Dr. Bernstein was respectful of my kitty's personality and boundaries and took it as slow as he needed. Clovis was apparently well behaved for his sample draws, which is a testament to the technicians as well as the doctor. I could not be happier with the way the exam went!I highly recommend this clinic for your pet's general healthcare. I am so pleased with the care my pugs, Blaire & Claire, receive at AVH.  Everyone here (both vets and technicians) know them by name and are so wonderful & sweet to us while providing excellent preventative treatment!In addition, the front desk is also incredibly responsive and organized, which makes my life so easy.  If I have any questions, they respond to my emails & calls quickly because they are very eager to help.  Blaire needed an eye exam ASAP the other week, and the receptionist immediately called me when there was a cancellation that day so Blaire could be seen right away!  :)Blaire & Claire have had all of their puppy shots (including their rabies shots) here at AVH.  It is a very expensive clinic, but I am happy to pay for the best care for my angels.  I also chose AVH because they are by appointment unlike other vets in the area that are walk-in only.  We miss Dr. Weinrauch since she is on maternity leave, but can't wait for her to return! Several years ago I returned to the area after living off the grid for even more years. I chose this clinic on a recommendation from a friend when I wanted to take my dog for a physical. I took my dog back another time for teeth cleaning. Both visits were very positive experiences. I had a good impression of the place and liked the care my dog received. A good place to go I thought. When I contacted them in an emergency situation, I identified myself as a returning customer and explained the reason for my call. My dog had an external growth that had been dormant for years. It had aggressively enlarged to a breaking point, and had burst, all in a 24hr period. They were more than willing to see my dog- until I told them I couldn't pay the entire amount on the spot...end of discussion. They wouldn't even recommend anyone that would! I was flabbergasted and upset to say the very least, but I didn't have the time to argue the point, my dog was in trouble and I needed a vet! I found one willing to help me, decided not to patronize this clinic anymore, and moved on.. Until today...when I found out that a friend of mine had been treated in the same manner- in an emergency- just this weekend. They were returning customers.Their dog was in dire straits. They couldn't pay upfront. Too bad....they had to go elsewhere. I don't understand these folks. The compassion I experienced in the beginning ended up feeling completely disingenuous and I certainly got the perception that it was all about the money. I understand that there are plenty of those who will take advantage and the clinic will never see the money or the patient again. However, the vets I have known and trusted in the past NEVER turned anyone away in an emergency. And fortunately for my dog, I found one that day because she would have died from sepsis had I not. NONE of us can predict an emergency, and not all of us have the means to pay upfront in an emergency. But in that emergency, most all pet owners consider the situation just as important for their 4 legged, as their 2 legged, family members. It's unfortunate that a few make it impossible for the rest. Really wanted to make this place my go to for my two cats incredibly kind vets working there. They are really great with the animals and handle them well.The problem is that they are literally TWICE as expensive for regular check ups and all their shots. I did some calling around and what they charged me $300 for, 6 other vets quoted me $150. Really too bad, but I'm going to have to take my business elsewhere. Absolutely wonderful.... I have worked in Animal hospitals for 13 years before relocating to Seattle. I have gone to quite a few clinics for my pets in the last 4 years, and haven't found anyone that I was comfortable with until I found this place. The girls at the front desk are nice and make you feel welcomed, the tech that I delt with was knowledgable and the Dr. was confident and able to remove a very large & difficult mass on my old girl. Well... after writing a rather annoyed review several months ago, I'm retracting it and writing a very appreciative review. Today I had to bring my cat in for an actual health emergency, breathing problems. They were extremely gracious about the immediacy, and despite being booked they allowed me to bring my cat in during the lunch hour to be checked out. The vet was very patient with me, explained what she thought was going on, called up the animal hospital I took him to last time this happened to get the records, and then discussed what she felt was the best approach to handle the issue. Dr Smith was very patient with me, despite my previous review, and they have helped me keep my cat healthy while also saving me more than $1600, which was the cost of the visit to the animal hospital last time around. He's always up on the literature and willing to talk to me frankly about what is known and what is uncertain, indulging my data-drive. Based on today's visit and needing to return so my dog could get an injection of the medication that I gave him in pill form that Dr.B prescribed him; I am completely unimpressed by Stacy's unsympathetic rude conduct when I called as soon after my dog vomited the med I gave him. She was implying that I expected to get the injectable version for free because I had to come back. I never once indicated that in our conversation and on top of that, she says well you have to get here in 20 minutes in order for him to be seen. I look over at the clock and its 3:25....hmmm that's funny, they don't close til 4 on Saturday which means I had 35 minutes to get back there. My adorable old lab just had surgery to repair a torn acl yesterday. I was kind of a mess as I've never had to put a pet through surgery. Bunny is a senior pup to boot, so I was extra nervous. She came out of it great and the entire staff was so very sweet. Dr. Bernstein has been our vet for 2 years now (and was recommended to us by some of our friendswho also had great experiences). He has always been extremely helpful to us, and clearly has our dog's best interests at heart. Recently, our young dog had an issue requiring a relatively unique sort of surgery, and Dr. Bernstein was our first point of contact. He performed additional research for us to make sure his recommendations reflected the best advice, went out of his way to be available to us while we were trying to determine how best to proceed, and clearly put our dog's health over any other priority. He was also very candid about what was truly necessary vs. luxury when it came to cost and approach. We ultimately went to a specialist, but Dr. Bernstein will always be our primary vet and first point of contact based on this and other excellent experiences.Read Less

I had a good experience at VCA Crown Hill (go here instead for quality) during the two weekend days I had to go in for my cat last summer who was exhibiting signs of severe illness. I was devastated by the sad prognosis and decided to get a second opinion from Aurora Veterinary Hospital where the vet assistant (apparently, my pet was not important enough for a regular vet) stated that VCA Crown Hill does a good job and performed a cursory, almost dismissive "independent" exam but was happy to take my money for the full charge of an exam. I took my beloved cat on a road trip to Santa Barbara so that he could have a grand finale and see some cool things during his last days. I had him euthanize at a clinic in Santa Barbara where I had to contact VCA Crown Hill, so they could get his medical records before euthanizing him. I was clearly distraught, and all the Crown Hill veterinarians I spoke to on the phone during and after this process (it was very difficult for me to get over this and I kept wondering if there was more I should have done even with the abysmal diagnosis), and they were extremely sympathic and supportive. VCA Crown Hill even sent me an unexpected sympathy card a couple of weeks later. Aurora Vet Hospital just sent me a notice that my dead cat is due for his annual. I cannot figure out why they get good reviews except maybe they are the cheapest place in town if that's more important than quality care. Read Less

I was sad to move away and not have them as my vet anymore, and now I've moved back in the area, and am going back again with a new pet. Even their front desk staff is friendly. This place is as good a vet hospital as you are going to find. Dr. Newton is smart, relaxed with animals, and knows all kinds of current research stats from going to veterinary conventions and from reading. She really knows her stuff. The rooms are open and airy, not stuffy and cramped like so many others. The vet assistants are super nice and professional, and very sweet with my puppy and my young kids. The entire office is very clean, especially the back area where they weigh, give shots, etc. I have been to several vets with my cat (including The Family Pet...ugh!) trying to find a smart, pleasant staff and I have finally found a vet I will stick with for both my cat and dog. Had 3 dramatically bad diagnoses here with 2 different dogs. The first dog they suggested euthanizing because they couldn't figure out what was wrong with him. I followed their guidance unfortunately. My other dog contracted the same problem within months of the other dog being euthanized and they suggested the same ending. Fortunately I went to another vet and got the proper diagnosis and the dog was cured. I am saddened by their suggested euthanizing of my other dog who could have been healed as well. When you envision that ideal vet who possesses not only the medical skill and knowledge you demand for your pet(s) but who also has the personal touch and care you want for both you and your pet(s), then you're envisioning Dr. Bernstein. I don't think it would be possible for me to list enough praise to do him justice. Suffice it to say that my two elderly dogs have been patients of Dr. Bernstein for the past year and a half or so and I couldn't be any happier with the care and service we've received. For one of my dogs in particular, who just recently passed away, we had a challenging situation of diagnosing and treating what turned out to be multiple significant conditions along with a variety of secondary ailments caused by the primary conditions and the treatments of those conditions. Through the entire process, Dr. Bernstein never wavered in his level of medical care; willingness and patience to explain all details, options, costs and side effects; and his personal interest and care in all of our well-being. Dr. Lisa Newton is the best vet I have ever met. She is knowledgeable, honest, straight forward and down to earth. Will do what is necessary and what is best for your animal. My dog, a VERY dominant German Shep/ Tibetan mastiff mix absolutely LOVES her. He gets excited when we arrive at the hospital and sees her. Normally, he does not like people to touch him, unless he wants them to do so and in the past he had to be muzzled before we even got to the vet building. However, Lisa can do what ever she needs with him while he just stands there and takes it. He has full trust in her and can feel the love she has for animals. No matter what the reason for going there was, we both feel better after our visit with her. We know we got the truth and the best treatment available. Read Less

I had been going to my old vet for 20 years. They recently changed hands and a very young Dr. bought it out. I took my now 20 year old cat in with the sniffles and they diagnosised him with alleriges.... go home and not to worry. He got much worse. I wanted a second opinion....Dr. lisa said allergies would be the first thing to rule out in an older cat. Treating him with a bactial infection has totally turned him around. I have 5 animals....and look forward to bringing each of them there as needed. Staff and Dr. lisa were all great at answering question knowledgeably. Dr. Lisa seems to have an inquisitive, curious, anaylitical mind and seems very determinded to know why things happen as they do. Great sense of humor makes her easy to talk to. Read Less

We took the newest member of our family, our Shar Pei / German Sheppard puppy Duke to Dr. Newton for his shots, and we had a WONDERFUL experience. She is kind, upbeat, and very funny, and she has the best bedside manner of any Veterinarian we have ever met. It is obvious she loves animals. Dr. Newton was very knowledgeable and adept at explaining every procedure that was being performed, and she patiently answered all of our questions. She does a great job of mixing levity with professionalism and caring attention. His shots were followed by several puppy dog treats and some hearty pets.
