Eastlake Veterinary Hospital

Seattle, Washington
General Info
Eastlake Veterinary Hospital was established in 1985 by Dr. Carl Anderson, a longtime resident of Seattle and the Eastlake neighborhood. After practicing six years in a large multiple facility veterinary practice, the idea of a smaller more intimate neighborhood clinic was very appealing. Over the years the practice and the neighborhood has grown and changed, but the goal remains the same — to provide high quality personalized care for our client’s dogs and cats.

We found this vet a couple days ago and had our visit today; it was amazing! The first thing I noticed was how clean it was. Most vets I have been to had a weird smell, hair, and drool everywhere, but not here. You honestly wouldn't even know it was a vet clinic it was that clean! Alex was our doctor today, and it was amazing to see how comfortable my dog was with him. My dog is an anxious one and doesn't like strangers touching him. He was still on edge, but a lot more relaxed than when we have taken him to other vets before. I also loved that Alex gave us a lot of options for the medications for my dog, and didn't push anything on us. He also gave us information previous vet technicians failed to let us know about concerning our dog. All in all, it was a great experience and I am excited to use this vet for all future appointments. Read Less

I had been going to the Eastlake Veterinary Hospital since I adopted my 10 yo cat about 6 years ago until I had her euthanized about a month ago. This was the first cat I owned, and I learned first-hand that there are limitations on what you can teach yourself about cats from books and the internet. Throught the years, the veterinarians and staff always patiently explained what they were doing, they educated me, and they alerted me to things I should watch for, particularly as she got older. Dr. D’Orazio was very helpful, non-judgmental, and sensitive as I considered my options when my cat's health declined as she neared death. Then, on the day that I had my cat euthanized, Dr. Anderson and the staff showed great compassion on a very difficult day. They all clearly and genuinely care a great deal for the people and the pets that come into their clinic. Read Less

Never coming back here. Worst vet experience I've ever had. I brought my 3 year old cat in for a check-up and vaccinations because my new apartment complex requires it. Dr. D'orazio came in and immediately made a remark about my cat's weight. He said, "looks like your cat has shrunken-head syndrome." From there on out, he made continuous rude remarks about how my cat is on his way to being obese and I must be feeding him wrong, so on and so forth without even giving me an opportunity to speak. When I finally got to explain to him that my cat has GI problems and I've tried practically everything on the market and we're on the only food that works, Dr. D'orazio went on to tell me all about Science Diet (which I had already told him I'd tried and didn't work). Next, he started talking about asthma. Why, I cannot tell you. I hadn't said anything about my cat having symptoms. He mentioned asthmatic cats having a cough, to which I told him my cat has NEVER coughed. Next thing I know, Dr. D'orazio has my cat up on the table and is SQUEEZING HIS TRACHEA in order to MAKE HIM COUGH! What the?!? I just got done saying my cat has never coughed!! The obesity remarks went on throughout the entire visit. I get it. My cat is a big boy. I've struggled with it since he got neutered. I don't need to be judged and made to feel like a terrible pet owner. My cat is otherwise completely healthy and happy.Dr. D'orazio talked to me as if he was ashamed of me. I felt anxious and disrespected the whole time. VERY unprofessional behavior. So, after just needing a well-check and a vaccination, my cat has now been choked for no good reason and I've been lectured about how I am not properly feeding my pet. I'm going to assume that Eastlake has good reviews due to their other veterinarians, but I will not be sticking around to find out. **side note, the technicians were great. My only problem is with Dr. D'orazio. Also, the front desk receptionist (Tracy?) who was texting on her cellphone while I was standing at the desk right in front of her waiting to be helped. This is a painful story. I've delayed posting it because the aftermath of a routine checkup sent us spinning for the past 9 months, but I want to help others avoid what we went through. We've taken our cat to Eastlake Veterinary Hospital for years and we were always OK with their care for her. This last summer Dr. Alex Shearer performed an ear wash on our cat because she was pawing at her ears. The result was a devastated animal who couldn't stand, eat, or really do much of anything but lie wimpering on the ground. We took her back to Eastlake where the nurse ripped her from her crate roughly by the scruff of the neck before I could stop her. She clearly didn't care about the animal at all.Dr. Shearer came in, examined her, took her after a bit to Dr. Anderson and came back, shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly and said "looks like vestibular disease" and then proceeded to talk about how he and his wife were expecting a child and ignoring us and our pet's extreme distress. It was then that I realized what a huge mistake we'd made by trusting Dr. Shearer and EVH.We immediately rushed our pet to the Lynnwood VCA veterinary specialty center (they're amazing). VCA did a complete workup (including MRI scans plus close visual inspection of the her ears under anesthesia) and determined that one of her eardrums had been ruptured allowing the cleaning fluid from the ear wash into her middle ear.*** This is a very well known way to give a cat severe vestibular problems. ****** Competent vets know this. ***Thus began our nightmare of months of repeated visits to VCA, the installation of a feeding tube, multiple feedings per day by syringe, and approximately $10,000 in vet bills. We were able to save our beloved pet's life, barely, but it was very expensive in every way.Our cat today is ~90% recovered after 9 months but she'll likely have a serious hearing deficit for the rest of her life. Please don't trust your pet to Eastlake Veterinary Hospital.(We've also ran into a former employee of EVH during our involuntary tour of several of Seattle's vets and she independently corroborated our feelings about EVH, even suggesting we sue EVH.) It was something about receiving advice to not let a new puppy eat her panties. While concerning, we wanted to check things out for ourselves. I'm glad we did. We saw a different vet a few times, but Dr. Shearer eventually became our regular vet and he is fantastic. It's been more than three years and we've been through some great and some tough times, and Eastlake has been there for us. I only wish my human doctors were as thorough and as caring as the Doctors and Staff at Eastlake Vet. Hospital. Not to mention how much my dog Beau loves Dr. Anderson. Whether it's just a annual check up or more serious when Beau broke his foot. The care, attention and, knowledge that the staff provides is exceptional. Not to mention the treats after a shot or pat on the head and hug for a nail clip. In my 20 plus years of going to a Vet with a family pet, I've never experienced my dog pushing his way to get inside the clinic. So despite, the shots, X-rays, Dental care and being lifted up on an exam table, both my dogs love seeing their Doctors and techs. That says it all to me. I was a little put off by the price of my Bengal kitten's spay, but it ended up being absolutely worth it. During the surgery there were some very rare, major (or perhaps major to me) complications, and because they already go above and beyond (hence the price), they were fully prepared. Because the complications were so unusual, the clinic even paid to put my little girl up for the night at a 24-hour emergency animal clinic, which means they ended up operating on her at a loss. I'd never have been able to afford having her monitored overnight. I'm so glad I went with them, instead of a cheaper (or a free) clinic; my little girl means the world to me, and I easily could have lost her with anyone else.Read Less

One thing I really appreciate about their vets is their compassion towards the animals and their helpful explanations about treatment and conditions. They are extremely knowlegeable and their follow-ups show how much they care. Dr. Anderson is very upfront about treatment options and can describe in great detail what your pet is feeling or experiencing. That's an important consideration in choosing treatment for the animal. I will, however, temper this review with one downside - Eastlake Veterinary Hospital does seem a little more expensive compared to others. While I would say the care is definitely worth it, budget considerations sometimes end up limiting the options for your pet. Read Less

My cat had some weird ailment of ""high fever syndrome"", or so I was told by other Vets (2). Without getting into all the medical terminology I will just say Carl took in my cat with a near fatal temp, immediately cold bathed him, IV'd him for hydration then went to work figuring out what was going on, and that is just what he did, figured it out. I left with Pete wrapped in the towel I brought him in with about 1-1/2 hour later, with some meds to go. I have never had the problem again and yes it was not cheap, $376.00, but add the two vets who charged close to the same and came up with zip and I guess Eastlake was not expensive at all. I can't speak for any other docs at the clinic but Carl is top notch in my many years of trips to the Vet. I will return to Eastlake and not complain about the bill!. The vet I have seen over the years is Dr. Anderson, and I think that he is just the best. I moved here several years ago, and tried a couple of other vet hospitals in the area. They were fine, but not in the same league with Dr. Anderson. He has had years of experience, and he doesn't quit until he has figured out what is wrong with a sick animal. I'd like to warn any pet owners to stay far away from Eastlake Vet. Their customer service is horrible, not to mention it's highway robbery with the prices they charge. In my opinion Dr. Fullerton is not professional or compassionate. i've been trying to give them a chance for years, but this last incident where they actually balked at the idea of giving my dog a general physical exam, shocked and confused me. They actually called 1 hour before the appt, to tell me they'd rather not do the exam. WHAT?!? A simple physical exam? Call me crazy, but aren't vet's supposed to exam your pets? I am finally switching vets, and I suggest you do the same. This place is a sham, not at all a class act especially when your lovely pets are concerned. Read Less

Eastlake Veterinary Hospital

Seattle, Washington
(51)
1536 Eastlake Avenue East
Seattle Washington 98102

Please don't trust your pet to Eastlake Veterinary Hospital.(We've also ran into a former employee of EVH during our involuntary tour of several of Seattle's vets and she independently corroborated our feelings about EVH, even suggesting we sue EVH.) Whether it's just a annual check up or more serious when Beau broke his foot. Eastlake Vet Hospital ranks as number 1 for me and my two Goldens. Plus my wife (who can be a bit critical) thinks it's the best place for your pet's care. Beau and Reese rate it 5 Paws! Read Less

I have been taking my cats to Dr. Anderson for almost 20 years, beginning when I lived just up the hill from the hospital. When I moved to the North Side, I looked for another vet in the neighborhood, but in the end always made the trip back to Eastlake. All the good stuff you read about them above is true. I lost my last cat on NYE this year, and don't plan on getting another pet. But I will miss seeing Dr. Anderson and co almost as much as the patter of little paws around the house. Read Less

It was reasonable for what I received! Wm Platts Read Less

Eastlake Veterinary Hospital treated me & my beloved kittie, Pazzo, with the utmost in love, professionalism & care during many difficult days. The facility is wonderful, safe, spotless & warm; plus there is easy & free parking on-site. The staff is bright, always friendly & focused on your needs. They offer alternative ideas & suggestions to pet owner's needs & various questions. Dr. Anderson is an exceptional doctor & person. He has is an active dog-owner of large & small breeds. I have learned that Dr. Anderson attends many national educational events & represents owner groups as their veterinarian. Attentive, kind, wise, balanced, calm, sympathetic...I could go on & on about this superlative man & vet. Carl Anderson, DVM, even went so far as to follow-up with me in a hand-written letter upon the final passing of Pazzo. Having owned several dogs & cats...plus other animals over my lifetime & seeing numerous veterinarians along the way, Eastlake Veterinary Hospital stands above them all. I give these tender & one-of-a-kind people & their clinic my highest possible personal endorsement & recommendation. Read Less

I owe my pets lives to him, and recommend him and his staff with highest praise. Read Less

I have been a client at Eastlake Veterinary Hospital for over 10 years. I currently have 2 dogs and a kitty. I have seen both Dr. Fulleman and Dr. Anderson on multiple occassions. I have been treated with kindness and compassion on all of my visits. When my cat got into a fight with another cat (I was a complete wreck), they were caring and made time for me right away. All in all this is a great hospital. It is in a convenient location and the staff is always friendly and helpful! Read Less

My animals benefitted big time from their care. The office staff is people-&-animal-friendly. I have left my ""babies"" at Eastlake when I was having workmen in the house. When I had to have an animal euthanized they were so kind and considerate, letting me hold my dog as he left the world. I just think the whole place and all the people are great. I recommend this establishment very very highly. Read Less

Read Less
