Friendly, professional staff examined our dachshund with a history of back issues when he exhibited sudden pain. We wanted to be proactive (hoping not to have him undergo surgery again) and the vet and staff both relieved us with good, prompt info (that he was probably not in need of another surgery) but still referred us to a nearby specialist for a 2nd opinion that same day. We'd like to thank the compassionate and caring staff at Emerald City for taking care of our elderly cat, Norman, and of us, during the traumatic event of having to put him to sleep due to multiple organ failure. Our normal vet is the Cat Clinic of Seattle, but they were closed when Norman was taking a turn for the worse. They had recommended Emerald City. The staff took the time to explain the procedure, let us have as much time as we needed to say our goodbyes before and after the procedure. The vet even consoled us because we were feeling guilty that we weren't sure if we waited too long. Read Less

Very disappointed. We took our corgi there at one night because we noticed her right foot was swollen, and when the vet came back with my corgi, he claimed there was nothing wrong, it turned out he checked the wrong paw...then when I told him it was the right foot, he just took a look very casually and told us it looks to him the wound was caused by chewing on the foot, nothing major.. and we got two medication and a $150 bill. Two days later, no sign of getting better so we went to check with our vet, and the vet immediately found two thorns and pulled them out!!!!!!!!!! As an emergency pet hospital, shame on you. Because of your negligence, my corgi suffered two more days with the thorns in her paw!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Read Less

I'm so thankful for Emerald City Emergency Clinic and Dr Carrigan! I've been to Emerald City Emergency a few times with cat and dog. They have always been compassionate and thorough. The prices are actually very reasonable for emergency level of care. The last visit was with Dr. Cathy Carrigan. Both Dr Carrigan and the front office staff communicated consistently about next steps. I really appreciated that she took the time to explain & discuss options for treatment. A few months ago my cat had a blockage in his urinary tract. We brought him to Emerald city and they took him in for an exam. After giving us an initial quote on an invoice of 600 dollars, they said he’d be ready to go by the next morning. Apparently the lead vet and owner of the practice couldn’t place a catheter in my cat so told me he’d need a PU surgery, quoting me at 1500 dollars, and another day in the hospital. For whatever reason, this never happened, and after a weeks stay in the hospital my cat was sent home with no surgery, and a warning that he would most likely block again, which he did. Our final invoice ran over 4000 dollars, which NEVER EVEN INCLUDED THE SURGERY. I called the hospital twice a day asking for updates on his status and almost every time I called was given a different answer. After his discharge, I assumed they were professionals looking out for my cats best interest. However, after following up with my vet, and several others around the Seattle area, they were appalled when hearing about the clinics handling of my animal. Emerald city drained me of finances that should have gone to giving my animal the surgery he needed. Instead he was sent home with a temporary fix. The only redeeming quality of the clinic was the supporting staff, who were kind respectful. I will never take any animal back to this facility. Read Less

very unprofessional and seemingly understaffed. The tech misreported the vaccines my dog was current on and they recorded her weight as 26 lbs, when 3 weeks earlier at our regular vet, she was 16.2. A 10lb difference for medication on a 16 lb dog would have been dangerous. I spent over 2 hrs. there and all they did was a basic exam which took 15 minutes. The worst part is that most of that time was *after* the vet came to discuss with me and said, "I'll write up the recc...omendations and get you checked out". They left me in the little exam room for over an hour, when I finally went to see if maybe they forgot about me. The tech said again, "your report should be right out". I needed to leave so I asked if they could email it to me and they said fine. 2 hours later I still had not received the after visit summary telling me what labs she needed and I needed to know b/c I was taking her in to the regular vet 1st thing in the morning. I emailed requesting and finally at almost 10 pm they sent me their internal notes, which actually bad-mouthed me and made me seem like I was being a pest. That is not only unprofessional, it was also inaccurate- I don't think checking 1x in 75 min. AFTER your visit is over is being a pest. So That's what I had to bring to the regular vet the next day. They also said that it wasn't epilepsy, and it turned out to be--epilepsy. I should also mention that I came in around 4 in the afternoon and was the only person there at the time, and left around 6:30. I have no problem waiting for emergency care if they are triaging patients with more acute needs. But when my visit is over and all I need is a piece of paper saying what labs to do, I shouldn't have to wait an additional 3 hours, and then receive your internal, unprofessional, gossipy, catty and incorrect notes. I came here in a bit of a panic. I usually like to read reviews of places I visit but my 11 week old puppy was coughing like a goose and I wanted him seen immediately so I went to the first and closest place. We waited for a little bit (maybe an hour) which seems totally reasonable for a walk in emergency vet. My puppy was seen by Dr. Corrigan and she was an absolute pleasure! She was very reassuring and knowledgeable. She was also super sweet with him and he absolutely loved her.I came here to write a five star review anyway but after reading some of the comments I want to say this place is NOT a money pit and does NOT take advantage of scared people. I was sitting with my puppy earlier today thinking he had distemper and was dying (he's totally fine. Googling got the best of me.) so I'm sure it's imaginable what state of worry I was in. Not only did Dr. Corrigan reccomend letting his cough run his course because a little strain of what he had is less harmful than antibiotics would be she didn't even charge me a visitation fee. Super awesome. I'm glad I went here. Thank you very much! Read Less

They took such great care of our poor, sick kitty! They went above and beyond to make sure that we got the care that we needed, and ONLY the care that we both needed and wanted, unlike other vets that will try to sneak in charges when you're in a vulnerable position. They made sure to clearly explain everything that they wanted to do before doing it so that we knew the price going into it, and the preliminary exam fee, even if we had chosen to back out and not receive treatment, was way more reasonable than I expected for an emergency visit. The staff was kind, patient, knowledgeable, and all around awesome. Plus, my cat loved them! Honestly makes me wish they could be our regular vet too, but alas! They only do emergency care. I had an overall good experience here. I took my cat in late one night because he had been vomiting for hours. Despite being very busy, they took my cat in, gave him an anti-nausea shot, and hydrated him under his skin. After they were able to examine him, they told me that there didn't appear to be anything wrong; they could continue running tests, or I could take him to my regular vet the following day. I did not feel pressured to stay and keep spending money, and I appreciated their bedside manner. I spent $200 for their services. Cat turned out to be fine- I didn't need a follow up. The doctor and the person who checked us out were very friendly and professional. The person who checked us in was short with us and kept telling everyone they were too busy and everything would be very delayed. I am INCREDIBLY impressed with Emerald City Emergency Clinic!!! Today I encountered a gravely injured pigeon who kept walking up to strangers, and was truly suffering. I called two vets nearby, one of which had even treated my OWN pets, and both refused to humanely euthanize the suffering bird. I called Emerald City Emergency Clinic, and the receptionist immediately said she would ask the vet if they could help while I waited on the phone. She said they absolutely could euthanize the bird, so I put him in a box and took him to the clinic. When I walked in, I was greeted by an INCREDIBLY friendly, kind and compassionate staff member who took the bird to the back. The vet agreed that euthanasia was best, and they humanely euthanized the pigeon.THIS is the mark of true compassion in veterinary medicine. When two other local clinics blatantly refused to help me in this situation, Emerald City stepped up to the plate. The core of veterinary medicine is to help animals who are suffering, and what I experienced today with Emerald City was compassion in it's truest form. I will be speaking with Emerald City again soon to see if I can start to take my own pets there for care in the future, as the people who helped me there today are TRUE angels to animals, even animals that most people won't even take a second look at. I recently took my dog here as I suspected he had ingested something and was afraid it was going to block his stomach. I received great, prompt care and yes it is expensive but it's an emergency room. If you have pet insurance it should cover it and my coverage was able to take care of 90% of the cost but if you don't have pet insurance, be prepared to pay out of pocket. Point is ER care for your animal is expensive regardless of where you go and sometimes when push comes to shove you don't have the time to google least-expensive animal ERs in your area, so best you get pet insurance. Also yes they do take your animals to the back room and won't let you come in. I think what most pet parents don't realize is that your dogs act up more when their pets parent are around them. I was more than glad to have them take my boy in the back since I know I contribute to his anxiety and stress level in past vet visits due to my nervous energy! Dogs are perceptive animals if you are anxious they pick up on that and manifest it too. Read Less

Can you give Zero stars? What a terrible place. Our cat had been missing for a couple days and luckily an neighbor found her but our cat was bleeding from her hind quarters and it looked bad enough to go to the vet. We wanted to get her checked out because she might need stitches. It was 9 at night so we didn't have many options. We called ahead of time and explained the situation and the lady that answered simply said "we're open."
When we arrived with our cat she didn't even ask us why we were there. She simply started trying to push us out the door because it wasn't an "emergency" (what constitutes a pet emergency?). She said that the doctor wasn't even around to help us and they could only do an exam for $60.
It was just a very very bad place. Maybe it's a front for a drug operation or they only treat pets that are gunshot victims because the very rude lady didn't seem at all interested in helping. Read Less

Our kitty was showing signs of a problem in his nether regions, yeowling and walking weird. It was a Saturday night and I called and spoke to a very helpful person on the phone who suggested we bring him in tonight or just wait until the next morning and call a regular vet, adding that, it would be cheaper to wait. Concerned that our cat might have a blockage, which can be deadly, we took him in. No waiting once we arrived. The kind lady told us exactly what they were going to do in the back room. About 5 min later, the dr came out and discussed what she thought the issues might be and what she wanted to test him for. She also gave me the cost up front. Her demeanor was wonderful. Very kind, thorough and complimented our cat over and over and kept apologizing for the wait. She was very cheerful and personable. Our kitty, unfortunately kept blocking, despite their efforts to unblock him. Each doctor I spoke with was patient, kind, and really took the time to answer all my questions. I never ever felt rushed. So far, our cat has been staying here for over a week. They allow visits anytime we want, so long as we give them a heads up about when we are heading over. We recently (Aug 20-22) had a very scary experience with our cat LeRoy and the doctor's and staff at Emerald City Vet helped us out tremendously. LeRoy woke up Saturday morning blind and with loss of functionality in his legs. We immediately took him to Emerald City Emergency Clinic (closest place to our house) and as soon as we got there the staff took him back for an examination. Shortly after taking him back the doctor came to meet with us and explained exactly what was going on (blood clots/cardiomyopathy). She was honest and comforting at the same time as she could tell we were very concerned. After determining the necessary care procedure they showed us where LeRoy would be staying and encouraged us to call as often as we wanted to check in while he was staying. Every time we called we received detailed status updated. Saturday night we called and asked if we could come and visit LeRoy and bring him something that smelled like home to comfort him. The staff encouraged us to do so and let us go back and spend a few minutes visiting. We met with three doctors during LeRoy's 48 hours (the doctor at check-in and check-out, a night-time doctor, and a different doctor at his 24 hour mark), all were great help. We were extremely happy to take LeRoy home Monday morning. I would have no concern taking any animal to this emergency clinic and really appreciated all of their help during our nightmare. Read Less

There's an emergency vet in Lake City that has been recommended to me by our new vet, who we love (Urban Animal. )Read Less

Not sure a lot of these reviews understand how emergency vets work. They're for emergencies. Of course they're going to be expensive... Emergencies aren't cheap. They're open 24/7 for when your cat decides water is overrated and dehydrates himself until his pee becomes solid and obstructs his urethra on a Saturday night.Okay, anyway, my cat received fantastic care here. Yes it was crazy expensive, but they told me it would be... The end cost ended up right within the price range they presented me with when I signed the consent form. The vets and techs all told me what a sweet cat my Leo was during his treatment, and even if they say that about every cat, the sentiment was much appreciated. And the best thing about it is... He didn't die. Which he would have if we had to wait until regular clinics were open on Monday. If only animals could get sick between 9am and 5pm on weekdays. Then we wouldn't need an emergency vet. But until that happens, be thankful places like this exist, despite the high cost. If they weren't around, some of our furry friends wouldn't be, either. Read Less

My husband and I just moved to Seattle with our 8 year old cat, TigerLilly, and had not yet established at a new vet in the area. The weekend of Thanksgiving, we awoke around 2AM on Sunday to find our cat with a medical issue that needed to be addressed pretty quickly (anal sack abscess). We hopped on-line and on Yelp to find out if there were any places open on the Sunday morning and/or open during the extremely late hour. Emerald City was open and only about 10 minutes away from us--so we called and they told us to just come on in--they are a walk-in service clinic. We were greeted by wonderful friendly staff who took TigerLilly in right away, even before I had filled out any paperwork (you wouldn't see that in our human health care). They treated her quickly and got her prepped to see the doctor while my husband and I waited. I was impressed by the amount of communication they staff kept with us the entire time we were there. Before they did anything that might cost a larger amount of money (or even if they could shave the area) they verified it with us and continued to let us know what they were doing. After the doctor took a look at her, she came to see us to chat and explain what types of things she would like to do for TigerLilly--even with the price of the total, which was significantly lower than I was expecting! Our doctor was kind, considerate, and you could tell she cared just as much for our animal as we did (as did the rest of the staff). We were in and out in under an hour and a half with a price tag which was about half of what I was expecting to pay for an "emergency" location. The price actually didn't seem any different than what I would have paid if I went to a vet during regular hours--a concept I have never seen mimicked when I have been to emergency care for any human health issues. TigerLilly actually got faster and cheeper care for this than when I personally went to urgent care for a torn meniscus. We went home knowing TigerLilly was going to be fine and with instructions on how to continually care for her while she healed. Thanks for helping us out Emerald City Emergency Clinic! Read Less

Nicholas is my Dashound, my buddy and my pet. Actually, I've been his human, ever since we met. My kids are grown and gone, and my wife now lives with god. So, it's a very real blessing for me to have this dog. I found him in the dog pound, where he was left to stay. How could anyone resist from taking him away. They brought him from a storeroom, which was underneath. He had a small stuffed bear, held tightly in his teeth. The toy was from his prior home, and it was all he had. He was scared and lonesome, and his eyes were very sad. I brought him home and loved him, and joined his life with mine. A pair of ""bonded buddies"" who get along just fine. Read Less

This was one of the hardest days of our lives, but it could have been made worse by another staff. Thank you so, so much to the caring staff at Emerald City for taking care of my kitty, Boss Tweed, on Christmas Day. When they saw all the blood in his carrier they took him back right away and made sure he was stable. It turns out a little bit of blood goes a very long way. Whew. The receptionist gave me my space as I cried my eyes out, yet was very reassuring that Boss was going to be okay. The vet was upbeat and supplied just the right amount of levity to the situation, putting me at ease. I left Tweedie there for two days, and when I phoned each day they always knew exactly who I was, who Boss Tweed was, and had news to report on his condition. They gave me a copy of his medical records for my regular vet, and I was impressed with the charting and the amount of information contained there. They kept a very good eye on Boss. When I picked Boss Tweed up they were concerned that the carrier was too small for him, so they gave me a dented but still fully functional and larger carrier for my 17-pound boy. I asked if they wanted me to return the carrier and they said no. Now THAT'S customer service! Read Less

I adopted a dog from a legit rescue on Tuesday, and it was horribly sick by Thursday. When I took it into a """"regular"""" vet, they tentatively diagnosed her as having pain from her spay stitches. Wrong. By early Saturday morning, I knew my dog was worse than ever, and I took her to EC Emergency Clinic. It turns out that my dog has parvo (she must have gotten it a day or two before she was vaccinated by the rescue's vet). She's currently in her second day of treatment at the clinic, and is already doing significantly better. The vets understand that I have gone over my annual """"dog budget"""" in a week, but I am OK with that since she's receiving 24-hour veterinary care, unlike regular clinics where the vets go home in the evening and return in the morning. The first time I spoke with the vet, she listed 3 possible reasons for my cat's ailment, and listed the two she thought were most important to test right now. And, by the way, she did not recommend the most expensive test, unless the other two were inconclusive. She asked me if I was OK with the first two tests after I was able to look at the cost, and I agreed to have them done. This helped me get a feel (and a bit of a say) for how much I was going to have to pay for the intake, diagnosis, and preliminary treatment (hydration), which I appreciated. When I went in I wasn't sure whether I'd be paying $500 or $5,000, but now I could safely assume it would be in the $500 range. Read Less

Read Less

This emergency vet is just what we needed. Our beloved old dog was having seizures repeatedly and we knew it was time to say goodbye. It was midnight July 13, 2017. We called one other emergency vet and they said they had a 3 hour wait. We called emerald city vet and they were very kind over the phone when we explained our situation. My husband took our dog in and the young woman who helped him was wonderful. She gave him time alone to say goodbye. When my husband was ready, she gently took our dog And wrapped him in a blanket. She told my husband that she was going to pet our dog the whole time through the whole procedure. They made a terrible thing as comfortable as possible. No idea how this place only has 3 stars, they deserve all 5. Read Less

Other than that, everything was good, they were of great comfort when my cat was super sick, and I'm glad I took him there. Read Less

They are upfront and honest about costs before they do anything. I'm really happy my cat is getting the best care here. Read Less

Read Less

Read Less

This was one of the hardest days of our lives, but it could have been made worse by another staff. Thankfully, we had the Emerald City staff to help us through this horrible day. Thank you so much. Read Less

Read Less

The receptionist/assistant was friendly and warm but mostly down to business, especially during intake; the doctor was not really one for small talk or warm fuzzies. This did not bother me and I didn't feel like I was rudely treated. I really don't care about my (or my pet's) doctor's work personality as long as s/he is intelligent, conscientious, and technically competent, and I don't understand why some of the reviewers are upset that the doctor didn't act like Oprah or their best friend. This is an emergency clinic, not a day spa... Read Less

Our one year old Border terrier decided to chase a cat under the wheels of a car - the cat escaped but dog was rolled over by a car wheel. We went to Emerald City as the dog began deteriorating (wheezing, glassy eyed, incontinent). Over the next couple of days they took care of the dog through the critical period when it was not clear whether or not she would live or die. She lived, and in the end my impression was that although they were not coddling, they were honest, competent, professional, and communicative.? Read Less
