We took our 2-month-old Australian Labradoodle puppy, Bo, to Dr. Felts at Marine View Veterinary Hospital because Bo had bitten and accidentally removed some sutures from a hernia surgery. Dr. Felts was wonderful! He was great with Bo, and also was very knowledgeable and informative about our next steps with our new puppy. Everyone in the office was great too! I absolutely love the time this vet takes with each patient and owner. Due to this (I assume), sometimes their wait times seem long. And I don't think they're the cheapest. We originally chose Marine View Veterinary Hospital because of the short drive from our home. Our 7 1/2 year old chocolate lab rescue dog is so frightened of riding in any vehicle, so I went on-line to fine a place that could be the shortest ride possible. After reading all the reviews, I was sold! They all proved to be true! Even Hershey is dealing with the short ride and seems comfortable there. What a friendly place, from the moment you step in the door! The vets are so thorough in their exams, etc., and go over any problems with good explanations. I've been coming to this vet's office for 5 years and I love bringing my pet here. The office and exam rooms are kept reasonably clean. The front desk staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The assistants are wonderful and great with the animals. The doctors really listen and take time to explain anything you want to know. Whenever I have to leave my puppy at the vet's, I feel comforted knowing she has such great people taking care of her! They are also very considerate about keeping your pocketbook in mind. I've never felt pressured to pay for an unnecessary procedure, test or product. Nor have I ever felt judged for declining anything. Every doctor I've seen here has simply laid all the recommended options out, and let me decide. It's usually easy to get last minute appointments here too if your really concerned about your pet, so long as you aren't too picky about who you see. That being said, Dr. John is my personal favorite. He has a very thorough and gentle way about him when it comes to the animal which I appreciate. The only downside I could point to would be the fact that it is a smaller location, so it can get a bit crowded in the parking lot or main lobby at times. But in my mind that's a minor issue compared to the wonderful quality of care you get! Read Less

Dr. Felts and Marine View was recommended to me 13 years ago when I moved to the area.  I have been a client and a fan since.  He is always so thoughtful and intelligent and always communicates on the level that the human can relate to.  He also is so gentle with the fur babies too.  I have recommended him and the hospital to many others who I know have referred him to other too.  He personally calls me to follow up to inform me of lab results or to verify the fur baby is feeling better (if they were ill).  I cannot imagine a better vet or vet service. I went in for an urgent visit with my pug as he started to act very skittish and like he was in pain one evening. The next morning I called and was able to get in right away. We saw Dr. Jon who was extremely attentive and wanted every detail of what led up to us coming in. Throughout the entire examination you could tell that he truly loves animals, and cared about my pet as much and my family and I do. He carefully and thoroughly checked out my dog to make sure he was diagnosed properly. After the examination he explained to me his findings and we discussed a course of action. He provided options, and it felt like a very collaborative and consultative experience. I can't say enough good things about Marine View. From the ladies at the front desk who answer the phone and check you out to the doctors and vet techs everyone you encounter is kind, compassionate and understanding of your fur kids particular needs. I have a big Malamute girl who is quite dog aggressive (dangerously so) and they always make sure to clear the lobby and give us a straight path into an exam room. They're like a well oiled machine. It relieves so much anxiety for me that they are so accommodating and nice about it. Dr John is a great doctor who is very compassionate and thorough in his exams. He gives you options, is always cognizant of costs and never tries to force you into unnecessary and expensive tests or procedures. Since my Mally girl is big some vets have been visibly uncomfortable examining her. Dr John dives right in. Dr Jon and Dr Felts are hands down the best.  Our cats have always gotten excellent care at Marine View, but...I was sold when Dr Jon put his head down, close to our boy Xander and just listened to him.  Moments of silence, just listening.  Heart, purring, gut sounds?  I think he may have even smelled him too.  This struck me as very special as I've always known that cats smell differently when they're ill.  Dr Jon was just checking.  :)From then on I knew that Dr Jon would be there to keep all our cats healthy.They are simply the best. We've been looking for a gentle, trusted vet for almost 2 years... Kobie is a shiba, his breed is known for being not so friendly, stubborn, somewhat aggressive, reserved, etc. When we started him with Banfield, vet appts were hard, I always had to hold him down, some vets were scared of him. He now trusts no one except us for nails trim, dental check, and other stuff. We decided to leave them after a year. Then the struggle began, I called several vets and explained the situations, some said "well, you can come in first w/o him, then we can bring him in once we're ready!" Kobie is well socialized since puppy, he loves human and all kids, very gentle with little ones, he's not so lovable with smaller creatures, but does listen. We realized that it's not him being a bad boy at the vet, those bad experiences with previous vets have built up and created anxiety for him. So we were so so thankful to have found Marine View Vet. His first appointment was wonderful! The vet and staffs treated him nicely, very gentle and took their time to approach him (he prefers taking time to know someone). They said that he's better than most shibas as he's so friendly. We walked out feeling like a huge stone has been lifted. We live 30mins away from them, but we can certainly go that extra miles to make sure our boy is well taken care of. Will keep our experience updated for this first year. Read Less

We've been searching for a vet and came upon this vet close to our home. One of the reviews noted that their dog was never so calm at a vet than this one. I was sold! We made an appointment for our chihuahua, and YES! she was still her yappy little self but never this calm in a vet!!!We seen Dr. Paulson and he was just wonderful! Very personable as well as the staff that worked with us. He explained everything thoroughly, gave us several options and a plan of action. There was no testing for "this and that". Marine View Vet is like my second home. I have been going there almost 20 years. Both of my animals during that time were medically challenging. Unlike other vets that send you to specialists because they can't/won't try to heal your pet. The docs at Marine View work hard, very hard, on getting your animal stable and happy. When we moved to Des Moines last year I had a sweet little old man for a kitty. Remy had been with me since he was a kitten and was over seventeen years old. Marine View took such great care of him through the twilight of his kitty years and was there for me and my fiance at the bitter end. Now, much sooner than we liked, we found ourselves taking in two kittens from the summer litters up north in Everson, a town where some close friends live. Marine View has been just as loving and awesome with River & Styx as they were with Remy. Through the good and the bad Marine View's staff celebrates every milestone and mourns every loss with you. I wanted to like this place. They have amazing reviews and are much closer than my previous vet. However, the person on the phone said it would be "helpful" if my get could fax records over. Apparently my vet was unable to do that prior to my same day appointment at Marine View, so when I got there and they told me it's mandatory to have records faxed, I wasn't too happy. I understand that it is for the safety of their technicians, but it would have been nice to know that it was required and not just "helpful" prior to going through the hassle of bringing my cat in (he hates his cage and the car). Hopefully I can revise this review at some point when I can get the records sent over, but I'll have to drive 40 mins to my previous vet tomorrow because my cat needs treatment asap. Read Less

This place is amazing. I have been meaning to do a review since December. I brought my cat here to get checked after he had not been acting like himself.. I was devastated to find out that he had cancer and needed to be put down. The staff here was so sweet and recommended I take him to another office before making a final decision. They didn't try to pressure me and even called to check on me after hearing that I did need to go through with putting him down. It has been 10 months I have since adopted a new puppy and no longer live in Des Moines.. That being said, they are worth me drinking 30 mins to know great people will be caring for my little one. When I went to pick her up I was blown away at the level of professionalism and warmth displayed by the desk staff, the vet techs and the vet who was on staff that day. They were all so kind and I could tell that our Rishi had been blessed to have crossed paths with them. They loaned me a carrier and she was fed and well-loved on by them.As soon as my Banfield year is up, I will be moving my puppy care to this office. It was my first time visiting this vet after not so pleasant experience at a different vet. I had never seen Ally so relaxed at a vet before - too relaxed that she was laying down on the floor and being so comfortable. Dr Felts was AMAZING!!! I've only taken my cat her once, but I have nothing but good things to say about it. The doctor seemed very knowledgeable. She's very VERY difficult to control, but he was able to get her to let him check her out nearly completely with very little resistance and gave me as much information about her issues as I had hoped, as well as ideas for how to deal with her issues myself, options for what to do if these methods didn't work, which included tests that could be done, recommended immunizations that could be given and estimates for the cost. My roommate mentioned a place in Federal Way that would have been about $15 to $20 cheaper for a checkup, but that location doesn't do any in depth treatments and I didn't want to drive my cat any farther than I had to, and he might have been wrong about how much that place cost. This checkup was just over $50 and, although I didn't shop around at all (I just noticed they have a good rating on Google), I found that amount to be fair. I think I might ask around for pricing for any tests and procedures though since they are quite a bit more expensive...not that I'm saying the prices here are too high (it makes every bit of sense for that type of thing to cost lots more), just that I would want to compare with other highly rated veterinarians to be sure. I took my dog here on a Tuesday. Blood work revealed she had 4 times an elevated liver enzyme. The doctor called on Wednesday to give me the message to optionally put her on antibiotic treatment.
