I can't say enough good things about this clinic. I came here for a second opinion about my sick cat. The dr was so amazing. He was very calm and discussed treatment options with me. Dr. John Serratore is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. He is completely professional, extremely knowledgeable and one of the most compassionate vets I've had the pleasure of meeting. I've been bringing my kitties to Dr. Serratorre for nearly 20 years!  I agree with another reviewer who commented on how kind and compassionate he is!  I suspect the one-star reviewing person is perhaps a plant from a competitor because one of the things I have always appreciated about Dr. Serratorre is that he will tell you all the tests that COULD be done (because, as he points out, that's part of his responsibility as a caregiver for our pets), but he understands real world limitations and works closely with me to help figure out the best solutions for whichever cat I've taken in.  The staff are all caring as well and I think almost everyone working there is helping to foster kittens or puppies with a local rescue group.  Delsie has been the receptionist/assistant for several years and she is fabulous - also a very compassionate person who is skilled at handling a variety of client personalities and situations. Dr Serratore and staff are the best! They have been nothing but good to me and my babies. Dr. Serratore always recommends what is best for my pet and doesnt make me feel like crap if i cant afford it. (i think its funny someone else on here Food D. said serratore recommends too many expensive lab tests---What Food D, you need your money for FOOD???) anyway i think it is funny when i hear people complain of costs, this place really is the best and i wouldnt mind paying a million dollars for an exam with Dr serratore because i know i pay for the quality of care. I am extremely disappointed with Dr. Serratore and will NEVER take a pet there again. He was always performing way too many expensive lab tests and also gave a very bad misdiagnosis of my pet's problem. I have found a much better vet down in Normandy Park and now my pet is back to normal health and without having to spend thousands of dollars. Read Less

I highly recommend taking you pets to Normandy Animal Hospital. The Dr Serratore and staff have been exceptionally informative and friendly. We've never felt rushed, and the doctor always does a great job explaining what we need to do to take care of our cat Sampson. Keep looking for another vet! My boyfriend had been going for puppy check ups and trusted him. When our dog turned 8 years old he started having bad Seizures and the Dr didn't seem concerned at all. He said it was normal and prescribed medications. The seizures got worse and he didn't seem invested in informing or helping us. He stressed its normal and increased dosage. The seizures increased to causing broken bones and more pain. He never prescribed pain medications. When I showed up with the dog he didn't recognize the dog. We switched vets and were very happy about how our other vet loved our dog, provided sound medical supported and informed us until his last day.Read Less

I have been meaning to write this review for awhile. NPAH has been such a great vets office. I love the staff and Dr. Serratore has always been available to answer questions. They have seen my pups through two major surgeries, vaccines, teeth cleanings, shots, check ups, toe nail clippings, allergies, etc.  I trust them with my doggies any day of the week. Read Less

Dr Serratore is kind, compassionate and a wonderful veterinarian. Over the past ten years, he has cared for our pets and operated on two of our cats. Before both surgeries he explained our options, and was careful not to guarantee results, even recommending a specialist. But both times, our cats made a full recovery and we owe it all to Dr Serratore. The last surgery was especially difficult, but we couldn't have asked for a better outcome. Our cat, who could barely walk, now runs like a kitten, pain free. Another plus, he never tries to talk you into expensive procedures, which is very much appreciated. Great place to take your pets! One morning my beloved cat Isabelle couldn't walk. I rushed her over to the Normandy Park Animal Hospital and they were so compassionate. Dr. Serratore  and the entire staff worked to bring a pulse back to her back legs. We discussed what treatment was needed and he was so good not to push for many and expensive procedures but discuss with me the options available to hopefully save her life. They tried for 3 days but she couldn't be saved. The last day when we decided to let her go, we scheduled it for the afternoon but the Dr. and the wonderful staff, gave me an exam room to spend quality time with my baby for the last hours of her life. They kept checking on us to see if we needed anything, they took pictures of us and emailed them to me but most important they gave us time alone  to say goodbye. They were so kind, compassionate and respectful. Dr. Serratore said that they all had pets they loved and they treat us as they would like to be treated. He said they understand how painful this can be. He did all that was medically possible, they did all they could do to make the last hours as easy as possible. They sent me a post card with a picture of my dead cat!  The one time I took one of my cats to this place, in an emergency situation, I find out MONTHS later they took a picture of her- when she was feeling her worst!- WITHOUT my knowledge OR permission.  They used it on a postcard I just now received in the mail to remind me of feline oral health checkups.  THEY diagnosed her with severe kidney failure!  THEY told me the subcutaneous hydration they did probably wasn't going to be enough, and if not, to bring her back for hospitalization or euthanization that weekend.  Well, she didn't make it the two days to the weekend.  I had to call a vet out to put her to sleep because she was suffering.  This was in June 2013.  What a wonderful surprise to get a picture of her all sick and ragged looking in the mail reminding me to have her teeth cleaned.  Where was the post card, the call, to follow up on her diagnosis?  Never got one.  The vet who saw her was nice, but only worked a few shifts at this clinic.  The people who sent this card didn't check with me for either the picture, or the status of my girls existence.  This is the worst thing you could expect from someone who is supposed to care for your furry friend.  I will NOT be bringing my other cat to them!  How dare you!! I needed dental done for my Elder cat and Dr. Serratore and I worked things out. She had been in the family for years, but I took the family cat when my father became ill after a period of time and she had major issues. (Needed all her teeth she had left removed, cleaning, antibiotics, gum surgery) He went though the steps necessary and consulted me through each step. Working in dentistry as a dental assistant myself (on humans of course) He wasn't what we call "scalpel happy". Good ethical practice, doing just whats needed, not whatever he could charge for. First visit was not overly impressed as the Dr was not in and my cat just needed his bottom shaved.   Later took my older cat in and was very impressed with the Dr's attention and service.  Prices were very low as well.  Less than half what five corners was going to charge!Nice job! Read Less

My pets and I have been visiting Dr. Serratore for over fifteen years.  I've always found him to be knowledgeable, friendly and very conscientious.  Although my first dog could be a real handful at times, Dr. Serratore was always patient with him.  Whenever we've had emergencies, he got us right in, regardless of how close it was to closing time.  I feel very fortunate  to have such a good vet so close to my home. Dr. Serratore and his entire staff are just wonderful. I have taken all my cats to him over 10 or so years. Normally there are no problems, just checkups. But when there are problems Dr. Serratore will do anything at all to find out the best treatment and solution possible - even referring you to another clinic if he feels that specialized treatment is needed. He returns phone calls all the time, and spends as much time as possible with you and your pet. I trust him with my precious family members COMPLETELY!! Appointments are easy to get, despite them being busy. Kathy at the front desk is wonderful and so friendly. And if you get a late appointment (after 4:30) you might even get to meet TOPO the deermouse on Kathy's desk. He sleeps all day, but is very cute. Read Less

I have been a client of Dr. Serratore's (Normandy Animal Hospital) for 12 + years. Not only does he handle my pets day to day health issues, but he has also performed surgeries as well when needed. Dr. Serratore and his staff provide top noch service, and they are wondeful caring individuals. I couldn't be happier. I wouldnt go anywhere else and I have absolutely no complaints. As for the comment regarding they are expensive, yes, having an animal (like a child) can be expensive at times. Especially when your pet is extremely sick or needs emergency level care. However, I have friends that are vets and Dr. Serratore's prices are standard and well within the normal range. If budgeting is an issue, all you have to do is ask Dr. Serratore's staff for an estimate of charges after the exam and they will gladly provide one. Read Less

I totally agree that Dr. John Serratore rocks! I have always had great experiences with this vet clinic. I recently had to put a much loved older kitty to sleep and Dr. Serratore was so kind, gentle and caring. I really felt like they cared about my pet and me especially at such an emotional time. They go the extra mile to give you high quality care. They are very understanding of your personal situation. It was my birthday the next day and they kept my kitty for me until I could come get her so I didn't have to bury her on my birthday. I highly recommend this vet clinic and Dr. Serratore. I disagree with another review that said they are expensive. I found them to be very reasonably priced compared to many other vets I've been to in the Seattle area. Some of the most friendly people I have ever met! Very knowledgeable and the woman at the front counter is an absolute sweetheart. If you have the money to spend I highly recommend this Veterinary Hospital. I once had a cat that was on its death bed within days of adopting it. The cat was deteriorating and was unresponsive to meds and fluids. The day after they told me to think about putting the cat down cause they couldn't figure out what wrong with it, the cat miraculously began to take to fluids and got 100% better within days (the cure/reason was unknown). After four days in the hospital, my bill came to almost 1500 dollars. No Surgery was performed, only meds and fluids. Needless to say thats a lot of money Read Less

Dr. John Serratore...rocks. We have used his services for over 20 years, having followed him from his early practice as an employee at a clinic into his private practice at Normandy Animal Hospital. We feel confident that he either knows the answer or will dig deep to find the right solution. His decisions for treatment are well thought out as to what will be best for the animal. Our first dog had a puzzling disease, which manifested itself in many ways. He was able to diagnose the issue (Cushings Disease) and direct us towards a vetinary expert for the correct treatment. When our current dog had an abcessed gum, he decided not to pull the canine tooth knowing that it could never be put back in, and it was the right choice as the abcess cleared up with medication and the dog still had an important tooth. Now the same dog was just treated for a growth near his ribs and the same careful thought went into play resulting in a positive outcome. The front line service of his office is top notch with long term key employees. Clients feel like part of a family and not just another appointment on the books. Read Less
