Please Read! Any vet is better than this one. I started a relationship with this vet recently and I thought it was honestly, very average but it is close and convenient. My dog got sick and I took him there right when they opened and I was the only person there. They told me that an "urgent care" visit was $107 and I was fine with that, then the front desk guy told me they would not treat my dog because they didn't have time. Like I said I was the only person in the vet. The exam rooms were open you can see them from the front desk. I even asked the guy at the front desk why he couldn't help me when I was the only person in the office. He just told me they couldn't help. I told him if I walked out I would never return as a customer. He said ok. This was a blessing in disguise I found a much better vet that was considerably cheaper and has much better facilities. This was a recommendation from a friend. First visit was great. Then, I had a sick dog. Couldn't see her for 2 days. Ok. Fine. Then I scheduled all 3 for a well care visit. There was not one single soul in the place. They put us in a room where a previous animal had a poop accident. It still smelled really bad. Then, we waited. And waited. And waited. 20 minutes. No vet. No tech. We could hear them all in the back. So, we got up and left. And will never go back. Read Less

I can't say enough about the high quality of care and compassion we have experienced at Ravenna Animal Hospital.  They have been helping us care for our cats for years; they have always been honest and open about the cat's health status and options for treatment for acute or chronic health problems.  They always let us make the final decisions about what to do, no pressure.  And they are always clear about costs related to those decisions.Recently we lost one of our cats to cancer.  Dr. Neal was unbelievably supportive.  Always taking my phone calls to discuss possible treatment and care options to keep him comfortable.  When the time came to let him go, she was incredibly compassionate, patient, and tender.  Ravenna Animal Hospital vets and staff are the best partners for pet owners. If "no stars" was an option that would be my actual choice here.  BEWARE OF THIS BUSINESS!!!For 14 years RAH- Ravenna Animal Hospital was our veterinary resource. For 14 years they were able to see us and make appointments to see our family member Maile. For 14 years they didn't really do anything incredibly wrong EXCEPT when we needed them the most.  Maile was experiencing a lower GI blockage and my wife called to ask a few questions and if a Doctor could call her back. It was 3:30 pm and RAH is open until 5pm. She was told they were too busy and to just go to the Emergency Clinic, that is another horror story all together, as they didn't have time to speak to her.  REALLY???!!!After 14 years you would think that a 5-10 minute call would be reasonable but, obviously we were not on their "A" list of concerns and had to go to the emergency clinic much later that evening.  All we asked was for a call from the doctor that has been seeing Maile for years.  That was too much to ask of them.It has been said that if you really want to know the true character of a person, go camping in a leaky tent, during a rain storm and see how things go.   It will be pretty apparent after the first few drops how things  are going to work out or end up a dismal failure. If the life of your animal is important to you, know that this is not how you want to be treated in a crisis or at the end of their life when really you need them the most.  Unless of course you want your family member to suffer.  But hey,  we weren't important enough for a 5-10 minute call.  It is easy when things are going well and they are all too happy to schedule appointments,  sell food and prescriptions, take your money but when there is a need and crisis don't expect much.  When the going gets tough.....................lower your expectations or find another veterinary resource now so you will not be disappointed in the end.In a matter of minutes RAH flushed 14 years of a relationship down the toilet and showed their true colors and intentions, unfettered access to my wallet. The wonderful doctors and staff at Ravenna Animal Hospital have cared for two generations of my kitties since 2006.  I'm moving away from Seattle and realized it's high time I reviewed them here.  Their services are excellent and every member of their staff is caring, compassionate, and so gentle. Dr. Barnhart has been especially wonderful in helping keep my kitties healthy, and several years ago, in easing the passing of a kitty with oral melanoma.  It will be a challenge to find a vet I love this much in my new town.  RAH has been my favorite clinic ever (and I've been to many different vets before I found them).I'm surprised at the less than 5-star reviews here, but these reviews seem to be from people who are basically grumpy about paying for pet health care.  I feel RAH's costs are very reasonable; they offer treatment options when costs are a concern, and the doctors are understanding about choices. It's about money, not your pet. I was so sad to have received such poor care from my neighborhood vet. Just moved into the neighborhood and took my dog to the vet. Dr Edwards did about a three minute exam. She told me a tech would come in and show me how to brush his teeth. Didn't happen. They charged me $179 for an exam and two vaccines. They called a few days later to see how the visit went. I explained the vet never looked at my dogs paws. His pads were all very swollen, he was chewing one, and the fur was discolored, and now worse than when I took him in. When I pointed out that this big issue was missed, they're customer service voice turned unpleasant. I was told I could pay $55 to have his paws examined. It took almost a week for them to get back to me. They left a message telling me that Dr Edwards looked at the 'top' of his paws but not the bottom!!! I paid for a thorough exam, top and bottom I assumed. Even though the doctor admitted to NOT looking at his pads or between his toes they wanted an additional $55, I believe more than the initial exam. So sad when money is the most important thing at a business. I have had many dogs in my life. That was the shortest, least thorough, most expensive exam I have paid for. DO NOT go to this vet unless you point out every part of your dogs body for them to examine. Apparently, it is my fault the vet didn't look at his paws. Can you believe that?! Read Less

I've taken my beloved Jack Russell terrier to this vet since she was eight weeks old. They have fantastic doctors, nurse/techs and office staff. They treated my dog like It was their own . Sadly, after 11 1/2 years I had to make that difficult decision after mounting health problems and incurable conditions. They offered options and advice to help me treat my pets condition as best we could and they took excellent care of my dog and me throughout the process. Now two weeks since her passing, I received a wonderful card signed by everyone wishing me condolences and offering support. These people go way beyond routine veterinary care. I brought my puppy in with a scary skin rash. Her behavior told me she was clearly very ill. Dr. Irwin was on top of the situation. She knew the steps to take to make the proper diagnosis and when we left I felt well taken care of. My complaint though is huge. We received four medicines, two of which were huge bottles of shampoo and conditioner. The medicines along with the dr. visit ($70 alone to see the doctor) along with everything else came to $430. Way too expensive especially considering the shampoo bottle sizes. They're huge. They'll sit under the sink for years until they expire or I decide to throw them away. Smaller bottles would have brought the price down and would not have made me angry enough about the price to switch vets. Now we go to North Seattle Veterinary Clinic. Great service. Affordable. Look at their great yelp reviews.Everyone knows Ravenna Animal Hospital is overpriced but takes their animals there because of the quality of care. That's their reputation- overpriced but great doctors. Their reputation got me in the door but the size of the shampoo bottles was enough wasted money to go see someone more concerned with my pocket book. Read Less

I have been taking my pets (dogs and cats) to Ravenna Animal Hospital for over 30 years. They have always delivered excellent compassionate care. They have seen my pets quickly in emergencies (one of my dogs ate broken glass!); they have been wonderfully caring when it was time to put my dogs to sleep at the end of their lives; they have been gentle with rambunctious kittens. I appreciate getting the clear low/high estimates of potential costs up front before I agree to whatever treatments they recommend. We've traveled internationally and they have  known exactly what paperwork/documentation we needed to take our dogs to Central America and back home again. This week, I had a kitten go into acute renal failure. Dr. Nacawitz was wonderful throughout this ordeal, carefully explaining the decisions I needed to make. I have no idea whether their costs are higher than the norm because I have never been disappointed in their services so I've never looked elsewhere. The staff is nice enough but the prices are insane! I took my cat in for his annual exam and walked out paying $200! The exam itself was about $25 more than most places and the charged me $21 to clean his ears! Im from San Francisco so Im used to ridiculously high prices but I have never paid anything beyond the exam fee to have my cats ears cleaned-and I usually have paid no more than $50 for the exam, compared to Ravenna's $78. Didnt appreciate that they didnt tell me about the costs up front before doing the procedures (if you can call ear cleaning a procedure). At least be up front with your gouging instead of surprising someone! Also, the vet said that everything checked out fine with him but two days later he was sneezing excessively.  I called them and they said "Oh yeah, that sometimes happens when we give them the upper respiratory shot." Wish they wouldve told me that at the appointment so I could have avoided taking him to another vet and paying for another exam! Thanks a lot Ravenna-I just spent half of my rent money on vet bills in the last week.... This is my first bad review on Yelp but I feel I have to say it. A friend recommended this clinic when I got a new puppy, so we came in expecting the best. Unfortunately our visit was a big disappointment. My puppy needed a health check and an international health certificate to travel abroad, so it should have been a fairly routine visit. From the get-go the technician, Michelle, had the worst attitude, for which she later apologized. Not a great start. Dr. Stephen Jones performed a quick exam and another technician microchipped my puppy twice because the first chip came out with the needle. By then my puppy peed herself and was howling like crazy through a muzzle they put on her (she is 5lbs!)They then tried to charge $400 for a health certificate reasoning that it's a lot of work. Yet I called another clinic the next day and got the certificate for $35 on the spot and the doctor spotted a pretty bad ear infection in my dog which Dr. Jones missed. Perhaps it wasn't our day, but I don't see any reason for us to come back to Ravenna when there are many other fantastic vets in the area. Read Less

Read Less
