Initial appointments focus on creating a comfortable environment where pets can settle and explore the space while expressing their reactions without any rush. Before initiating any physical examination, the veterinary team observes subtle indicators such as eye darting movements, tail positioning, gait modifications, and pressure sensitivity responses. Medical examinations encompass joint tracking along with hydration analysis and weight monitoring while assessing gum tone and coat texture together with thermal regulation patterns. First off, I super love the staff. Everyone's friendly and patient, the doctors are great at what they do. I trust them completely with my great Dane. That said, corporate has been making bad changes. They reduced opening hours, closed Sundays including for boarding pickups, and increased prices. So in effect, less service for higher prices. Even for someone on a care plan, things just got more expensive. Read Less

The staff treat our animals like their own. We started coming to VCA for emergency de-worming of our cat & dog shortly after getting them from a shelter. VCA was able to see us first thing in the morning, on a Sunday for no additional fee. Since then, they've had their yearly check-ups with VCA and done several boardings while we were out of town. I love that I can schedule their check-ups during boardings while they're already there. They also make sure to get each animal out of the kennel during boarding each day for some attention. The general check-ups the vets have done have been great, they're thorough, patient with our spazzy dog, and pretty quick. They called to check in on our animals after our kitten had her first set of shots and our older cat had to have a tooth removed. Read Less

I've gone to Crown Hill Animal Hospital for about 23 yrs. The fist time was for 9 years when I had a Giant Schnauzer. During this time, they were always accommodating and helpful. Unfortunately, I had to treat Turbo for cancer and eventually had to put her down. I waited a couple of years to see if I really wanted a new dog and the emotion and responsibilities needed. Into my life comes Sammy. A miniature Schnauzer. He was the most wonderful and loving dog, companion. After 11 years, I was again faced with having to make decisions regarding his care and life. Once again, the vets at Crown Hill stepped up to the plate. Bad news------Sammy was very sick. We did several different blood draws---Bad news. They recommended a radiologist look at Sammy for another opinion. Terrible news. The emotional support from them was good and I had to make a decision. No quality of life, pain and his condition getting worse by the day. I made the difficult decision to put Sammy down.--A humane and loving thing to do. I set it up with Crown Hill. When we came in, I was carrying Sammy in afghan my mother had made years ago. The staff led me into a quiet and heated private room with couch and chairs and the metal table was covered with a blanket. Definitely not a sterile feeling--just the opposite. Sammy was on my lap, in the blankie. I held him and talked to him. Dr. Darley was so kind and sweet as Sammy went to sleep. She didn't try to hurry us along and was kind and caring. The staff was also there for our support. They followed up with a couple of cards. I will never forget them. Sammy won't either. A wonderful experience considering the circumstances. I had a good experience during the two weekend days I had to go in for my cat last summer who was exhibiting signs of severe illness. Dr. Menth treated my cat both days and handled all the requisite tests. He was very good at explaining what testing needed to be done on my cat in order to diagnose him and also gave me realistic options about my pet after the results came back. I was devastated by the sad prognosis and decided to get a second opinion from Aurora Veterinary Hospital where the vet assistant (apparently, my pet was not important enough for a regular vet) stated that VCA Crown Hill does a good job and performed a cursory, almost dismissive "independent" exam but was happy to take my money for the full charge of an exam. I took my beloved cat on a road trip to Santa Barbara so that he could have a grand finale and see some cool things during his last days. I had him euthanize at a clinic in Santa Barbara where I had to contact VCA Crown Hill, so they could get his medical records before euthanizing him. I was clearly distraught, and all the Crown Hill veterinarians I spoke to on the phone during and after this process (it was very difficult for me to get over this and I kept wondering if there was more I should have done even with the abysmal diagnosis), and they were extremely sympathic and supportive. VCA Crown Hill even sent me an unexpected sympathy card a couple of weeks later. Aurora Vet Hospital just sent me a notice that my dead cat is due for his annual. I cannot figure out why they get good reviews except maybe they are the cheapest place in town if that's more important than quality care. Read Less

Read Less
