Hunter is the only vet clinic we have been to (we even moved to the valley and continue to travel here). The walk-in hours are much appreciated but the downside is that they are BUSY. Just be prepared for that! It can feel hectic while waiting but the staff is visibly busy, so being patient is really all you can do. I wish there was a better way to estimate the wait time (was estimated 25 minutes when I called ahead but it was about 45). We saw Dr. Copley at our last visit and she was great with our dog and answered all my big and little questions thoroughly. She did not rush through our visit. Read Less

I took my german shep puppy here for a second opinion for a large mass on her neck. Rather than trying to rack up a bill with tons of x rays and tests, we just aspirated the mass and found it could be drained. The next morning she was in surgery and her drain was placed. This surgery cost less than half of what I expected. I also got calls every couple of days to check on her. I LOVE hunter veterinary clinic! Read Less

These guys have a walk in clinic and I brought my 23 year old kitty here to be put down. I realized she was not well and needed to be put down immediately as we were approaching a holiday weekend and I couldn't afford a pet emergency clinic. There was about an hour wait but I didn't mind since it was my last hour with my life long friend. The waiting room was far too small and hot for us to wait in so we sat in our car. Staff came out to walk us in and were so kind. They examined my cat prior to putting her down to help ease my fear of putting her down prematurely. The process was very quick and they stamped her paws as a memento for us. A few weeks after they sent me a sympathy card and two poems with a pamphlet letting me know it's normal for family and pets to grieve. I had a great experience despite the circumstances. Read Less

The customer service I recieved was the best I've had at an on site veterinarian clinic. My cat was treated well and the prices are affordable. It was recommended to me, and I in turn will recommend them to friends and family. The two downsides of my experience were the terrible parking lot and dated lobby. But this is an old clinic just north of downtown and I can easily get past those flaws. Read Less

They sedated her and put a stitch in her tongue never noticed her broken razor sharp tooth in front that her tongue was raking over and other broken teeth. This clinic has been my go to for my pets for about two years. They are very reasonable. They care about the quality of your pets life and are willing to do what it takes to get the job done. Dr Mark Schrag is an earthly . My most recent visit was very devastating. My mom had recently passed and one of her little dogs (Chihuahua) got hit by a car and got his jaw broken in four spots. Him and Dr Hunter made a plan and gave me an estimate. Mid surgery the plan they had in plac...e was proving to be more difficult than was planned. They went out of their way to help regardless. They check in on your pets after services. Facilities are clean. All the receptionists and aids are nothing but compassionate. If it wasn't for Dr. Schrag and his compassion to help a poor dog who just lost his momma. My little side fat may have had to been euthanized as I couldn't find anyone willing to try and fix a Chihuahua jaw that was broken in four places. I love these guys and will continue to bring all the fur babies I know there because I know they will get appropriate care. If I could give them 100 stars I would! We won't know the success of the surgery for another 7 weeks but the doc alerted us of worst and best case from the beginning and explained every thing thoroughly. Little Pup is showing lots of improvement in just 3 days.. Great job guys See more Read Less

It’s not a fancy building, the parking situation is horrible, and the lines are long, but for a reason! The staff at this clinic care about you and your pet and they’re more concerned with making your pet better than running the most expensive tests just to squeeze your wallet till it’s empty. They’re compassionate and understanding and will do everything they can to help you. They offer many solutions and let you know what they can do for you if you have limited funds. After... going to another vet that charged us 600$ to do nothing for my kitty we ended up here one night that he was so dehydrated and lathargic we doubted he would live through the night. Now we’ve been their just about everyday the last two weeks trying to get our kitten better from a viral infection, noticing there was two issues not just the infection but GI problems as well Dr. Shrag operated on my kitty last night and despite a major surgery severe dehydration and being on the brink of hypothermia this clinic has taken care of him and I can see he is doing better. He’s with them for the day and our hopes are high. I recommend if there’s a continuous issue to see all three vets here because they all will look at things differently and you’ll get the best possible diagnosis. They are cost efficient and trustworthy and you never feel like you’re getting the run around. We need more clinics like this. See more Read Less

It's all about the money, long waits, and no parking... I've brought all my pets here since 2006 (cats, dog, even my hamster) Not sure why I keep going back to be honest, but my last visit will be the last. I started to lose faith in this clinic when I brought my hamster in to see the small pet vet, he had what looked like a lesion on his side. The vet didn't know what it was and was about to biopsy it, but then at the last second decided to research it a bit first, turned out to be a normal scent gland that appears when male hamsters reach sexual maturity... He still prescribed steroids for the hamster for whatever reason, and the visit cost me $100 (not saying it should have been free, but $100 to tell me it was normal and prescribe unnecessary drugs is a bit much) My next visit, my cat started losing weight and throwing up a lot. So I brought her in (they always push you to the walk-in clinic, even when you ask for a specific appointment) so I went in, and waited 2 hours to see the vet. Can't remember the vet's name, but she seemed nice enough. I knew my cat would need blood work to find out what was wrong with her, but they just told me to feed her wet food and gave me some stool softeners to take home with me. That was $87, then a week later they called and left me a message saying "we would like you to bring your cat back in for blood work" I wanted to call back and yell "I was just there, why do I have to pay for another office visit for something I wanted you to do the first time!" I was a bit upset, and decided I wasn't going to go back to this vet. So I called around to other vets, I'd basically have to start over, which was going to cost me more. So I called Hunter Vet back, and asked if they could do the blood work w/o charging me for another office visit (and I'd just pay the cost of the blood work). My cat started losing patches of fur since the last time, so they told me "well, since she is now losing her fur, it's a new thing and we'll have to charge you another office visit, plus the cost of the lab work" GRRRR, so it really is just about the money here, and it's ALWAYS busy during walk-in times, so you may not have a place to sit, and I've always had to park at a meter on the street because their lot is always full... I need to start by saying the dr. Schrag and dr. Copley are amazing, kind, compassionate and empathetic vets. Dr. Hunter and my recent dealing with him has made me sick. On dec 26th i took my cat in because he had been struggling to breath and had a large sore on his neck. I saw dr. Hunter and he did a quick BASIC exam watched my cat breath, grabbed some pills and told me my cat had feline asthma and the sore was an allergic reaction, no x rays not testing just watched him br...eath for about 20 seconds and listened with the stethoscope for another 10 seconds. The only reason i knew anything about the pills he gave me is because i have asthma. He was cold and inpersonable which normally doesnt bother me. Fast forward to the next day and my cat has further deteriorated called the vet and was advised to bring my cat back. When i got to the clinic the second time i saw dr copley. She was much more thorough and kind she listened to my cat breath for at least a minute asked questions and and checked out my cat. She did x rays and it turns out my cat did not have asthma but advanced cancer. The whole time dr copley and her assistant were amazing and kind and so patient and compassionate with my daughter who did not handle the news well and me. I would have been an even bigger train wreck had they not beeb there. I had to make the decision to have him put down after what i was assuming was a complication from asthma. I wish dr hunter would have been more thorough in his exam and did x rays that first day. A cancer diagnosis would have still been crushing but we could have handled it with out the burden and stress of a second trip to the vet and the falsely led hope that my cat would be ok and his sickness could be managed. The second office call charge and knowing i spent money on meds my cat never needed just made it all sting more. It was just more stress that could have been avoided with a thorough first exam. my healthy darling Beloved Dog almost DIED from Prednisone drug overdose when prescribed by Dr Schrag for my Dog's Ear hematoma (and online Holistic Vets say dont touch it, let dog's body heal itself NAturally- takes about 3-4 wks, but a neighbor insisted I take him to a vet) DR SCHRAD prescribed Prednisone (he said its a steroid) & Insisted I GIVE my dog ( he was older, but healthy internally) the WHOLE bottle (i thought was for 2 wks) BUT the recept. gave me a bottle w/ prednisone w/ someone else's name on it! said it was for my dog. it had alot of pills., for about 5 wks, (w/ tiny font over other font and hard to read)....what a mess. the Dosage said: 1 Tablet every 12 hrs, for 1 or 2 wks then take daily TILL GONE. by the 4th wk. on this poison- prednisone (needs to be outlawed) my dog was pooping just liquid blood , dying, the drug ate thru his upper intestines and more. -another Vet (mobile vet Dr C) came over to our home, wk 5th, and said my dog wasnt going to live (OMG), shocked, and i could 'end his life' now or in a few days ! I was in tears... the prednisone is so toxic. my dog was badly hurting but i knew i would find another way to heal my dog and did. i called a Holistic Vet in South Hill, w/ his advice, alternative herbal meds (Mushroom extract), gentle lite org. chicken soup, etc. massage, oils, energy healing work, we helped save my dog!!! I dont believe in chemical drugs, not safe. (giant drug corp. dont care about anything but profit) NEVER go to this office , they were v. careless, wouldnt listen to my concerns or my holistic input. BEWARE OF THIS VET!! I cannot believe Dr Hunter is still practicing!! He's incompetent and cruel to animals. My first horrible experience was with a 3 week old kitten that I adopted from their office. They had preformed an amputation (that I paid for) on the little kitten's front leg before I adopted the little guy. Dr Hunter didn't take enough of the shoulder bone off and the bone broke thru the poorly done stitches. When I brought the kitten back in Dr Hunter was going to let the wound stay open and uncovered even though the kitten was litter box trained and would get kitty litter in the wound. Because of this, I insisted he bandage it before I left the office. In the end, Pet Emergency on Mission had to correct Dr Hunter's botched amputation and I ended up paying $500 for this additional surgery. The second and final straw with Dr Hunter was when I brought in another cat of mine that had a limp due to an injured back leg. During the exam Dr Hunter muzzled my cat, bound his front legs and proceeded to aggressively bend and straighten my cat's leg with much more force than necessary. My cat was in so much pain from this cruel and maltreatment that he screamed and urinated on himself during the examine. Dr Hunter then told me my cat had the worst knee blow out he'd ever seen and that the back leg needed to amputated. Since he had already performed one botched amputation on another kitty of mine and there was no mistaking his cruelty for simple incompetence, I headed to Pet Emergency for a second opinion. They confirmed my suspicion. The surgery was NOT needed and they said, at worse my cat might limp in the winter months due to arthritis from his injury but that was it. They were right. Dr Hunter doesn't have your pet's best interest at heart. If you love your pet, find a compassionate and honest vet elsewhere. Read Less

I shall begin by saying if you are going to this clinic to see Dr. Schrag, you will be quite happy. He is as smart, compassionate, and well-informed a vet as I have ever seen as a lifetime pet owner. The staff is likewise an engaged, kindly, helpful, passionate group of professionals who couldn't be kinder or more thoughtful. They strive at every point to go above and beyond to help care for the welfare of the pets in their charge and are a pleasure to deal with. The reason for the single star on this review is because, first and foremost, it is impossible to rate lower. The cause is the man whose name is on the door. Dr. Hunter is simultaneously inept and cruel. I took in a suffering animal to be put to sleep. While Dr. Hunter was inaccurately administering the euthanizing drugs - which he had to do repeatedly, jabbing my poor animal again and again because he couldn't seem to handle the most basic of injections - he was brutally manhandling a sick animal in a way that I would consider abuse under normal circumstances. To witness it in perpetrated on a dying creature was appalling. I will reiterate: If you see Dr. Schrag and deal with the other staff, you will be quite pleased with your experience here. I would not take any creature, however loathsome, to suffer the odious, incompetent "care" that Dr. Hunter provides. He has the bedside manner of a thug on parole, clearly mistreats his patients, and is unable to perform rudimentary tasks to completion. I personally wouldn't use him as a butcher, much less a veterinarian. This is a case of a heartbreakingly poor leader running an otherwise wonderful operation, but the benefits are all fruit of a poisonous tree.Read Less

The male vet (not Hunter, but another, Dr Schrag) was very kind and even helped out by making some expections to rules and getting my pets the medicine they needed. I really recommend this place, they're very honest and good people. Not to mention the best financial option, especially for the quality of care. I always recommend this place to friends. The only reason I can relate to people Not liking this vet, is because of Dr Hunter, he is kind of cold and doesn't seem to like animals very much, but he is a very good doctor. The other staff make up for his standoffishness, and the male vet I saw there today Dr Schrag was very compasonate and I enjoyed my visit with him much more, but that isn't to say I wouldn't trust Hunter. I just know he can turn some people off, but I promise the service is still top notch.Read Less

They said to bring him right in even though it was before their walk in hours. The doctor was extremely nice even though I was very upset and could barely breath :) the prices we're very reasonable I expected thousands with 3 days before Christmas I figured I would of had to try to come up with a lot it was only $500 and it took only 4 hours to get him in and out I would highly recommend this place again I am so thankful for this place they saved him !!Read Less

Dr. Hunter is the most knowledgeable vet in the area. He diagnosed one of our older dogs with a problem just by looking at her after us having no luck at another vet clinic. Their rates are extremely reasonable, and they have the lowest charges for xrays and blood tests. It's very convenient to be able to walk-in Monday through Fridays until 6pm and have your pet seen. We've taken 3 family members (dogs) here since 2002 mostly out of convenience - very near my office.  I even recommended them to several friends that were looking for a vet near downtown.  I never visited the office when it didn't feel chaotic and staff members seemed stressed/unhappy or new and unsure of what to do.  My husband suggested switching to a new vet for years but we just kept going out of convenience mostly for spay/neuters and shots when needed.  Fortunately nothing major.  Our final trip was in August 2014.  My husband brought our dogs for shots, a check-up, an estimate for teeth cleanings, a nail trim, paid our $200 bill in full and went on his way.  At the end of October, I received an invoice in the mail for $38 dollars that said it was for a past due invoice plus late fees.  I thought it must be a mistake and called the office.  It turns out that this was for the nail trim and they forgot to add it to the bill in August.   They tell me it was a $14 charge for a nail trim...plus $24 in late fees.  $24?!?No one called us after the fact to let us know they missed it.  We could have just paid it over the phone.  They claim to have mailed us an invoice in September that I never saw.  Now it's October and the invoice has increased 150% due to late fees?  And still no phone call.  I said I had no problem paying the $14 but wondered what we could do about the ridiculous late fee since this was my first notice of owing anything at all.  The person on the phone said she'd have to ask Dr. Hunter about it and she would call me back.  She called me back the next day and said Dr. Hunter agreed to cut the bill in half and i could settle it for $19.  Really, Dr. Hunter??  Are your late fees that important to the success of your practice?I questioned it again but they stood firm.  So... I paid the $19 and we are happily going to a new vet now.  I should have made the switch sooner but this was the final straw.  You've lost two customers and my future referrals over your $5, Dr. Hunter. I've been seeing Dr Serena Copley at Hunter Vet for about a year and a half, since moving to the area. I am so glad my coworker recommended them. The Saturday walk-in hours are a Godsend so I don't have to miss work every time my dog needs a vaccine or a check up. Sometimes the wait is a bit long on Saturdays, but when doctors are giving up a weekend morning and you don't need to schedule an appointment, who can really complain? Dr Copley is caring and compassionate, and you can tell that she really enjoys her job and loves animals. She is always so sweet with my dog, loving on him and giving him treats. Dr Copley answers all of my questions and addresses all concerns. I never feel rushed even when I know there's a waiting room full of people for her to see. The office staff is always kind and courteous and showering my dog with affection. Totally pleased with the care I and my dog have received. I would recommend them to anyone. Read Less

Never again will I bring an animal to this clinic!  I've had family members swear by this clinic for years - and the few times I've gone there before today I've been satisfied with the service.  Today was a completely different story.  We took our cat up today after he started having some issues/pain urinating.  They told us he had a urinary blockage problem would be fine for a day and to bring him back tomorrow.  As the night went on he got worse and worse to the point he was almost passing out (trying to urinate his eyes would squeeze shut and he'd start convulsing).  Hunter's was closed at this point so I called two other clinics to get opinions.  Both urged that I take him to emergency care because this could very well be life threatening.  If they were recommending that I bring them to their clinic I could maybe believe they were trying to drum up business for themselves but both clinics urged that I take him to urgent care tonight. My girlfriend is taking him up there now and I can only hope he'll be alright.  None of my animals will be visiting Hunter's again though. This business is simply the best. We were visiting Spokane and our little Havanese kept worrying his ear. They were good enough to see him on a Saturday without an appt. We went there because our family in Spokane had such high regard for them. Dr Mark Schrag fixed him up with an antibiotic for his ear infection and gave us another helpful medication. I noticed what I thought might have been a small error in our invoice and called once we got back to Seattle. The doctor himself returned my call and his staff remedied it immediately. They also called to follow up on Desi's progress and gave me helpful hints to get his medicine into his ear in a more efficient manner. I just got a whole packet of their information in the mail. We have nothing but contempt for Dr. Hunter right now. A strong statement and it does not come with an apology. Our strong, healthy, beautiful 5 year old purebred German Shepard (Alsatian) died less than 18 hours after undergoing ovariohysterectomy Friday, September 19th. Autopsy revealed that she had bled internally. Dr. Hunter could offer no less an explanation than this particular breed might bleed without clotting which made me think of propensity and the odds. Our decision to have her spayed or let her pup still weighed heavily on us when we released her for surgery and now she is no longer here. It's not about the cost, after-all our beloved is dead, but our perception of things has changed in that we can't help but feel cheated somehow with how the whole matter was concluded. In compensation for losing our pet, Dr. Hunter offered $7.00 plus tax, the cost of medication prescribed and which went unused. And to get even that was like pulling teeth. Read Less

Went to hunter veterinary clinic because of its rating online...within 5 minutes I knew it wasn't the place for us. I have a 10 month old German Shepard... It was our first time in the office and he was curiously walking around (on a leash). He kept quiet while a random cat wandered the halls of the clinic but barked when another dog entered the waiting room. Both dogs barked for maybe 20 seconds, before Dr. Hunter was less than a foot from my face... He was very rude and said that if my dog is going to bark that I need to wait outside. I expected a little more patience toward animals at a vets clinic. If it wasn't for my two little boys being excited about their puppies 1st Doctor visit I would have left right then. We had another veterinarian when we were called into a room, he was alright but it was obvious that the assistant wasn't happy working with him. They weren't very friendly and we will not be going back there. Read Less

I took my dog in to this Vet due to him getting hung up on a barb wire fence which tore his skin back. When we got there, even though it was busy, Dr Hunter came out and looked at it and said he could get him stitched up. So i left my dog there. When we came back to pick him up everything seemed fine. When I asked how many stitches my dog got he said he was unsure because he was to busy to do it so he had another vet do it.. Dr Hunter was not very forthcoming with what do do for follow up He said if bandage fell off due to location not to put another one on. When i got to where I was staying i started looking at the wound and stitch job I became concerned. They did not shave the area. They did not clean or trim up the edges of the wound for a good stitch. The vet who stitched it up did absolutely nothing but fold up the skin and sowed it together. I was told by Dr Hunter that it was a good stitch job so they would have to be taken out in 2 weeks. Within 2 days the stitches started to fall out and the wound reopened. When I got back to where I lived I took him to my vet. They were good about not saying bad things but to make a long story short it was a horrible stitch up job and the reason it probably got infected was Hunter Vet clinic did not shave area but stitched right thru the hair. And the stitch work was very sub par and my vet had to put my dog under again reopen the wound clean up the edges put in a drain tube and re-stitch it up the proper way. Even though Dr Hunter was not the one to do the work, he should be responsible for the work performed by his vets. I do not think he even looked at the work performed I was very happy about learning that he was voted the best vet in Spokane when I brought my dog in but now do to the quality of medical work performed on my dog I would not recommend them. It started out as a simple stitch job and turned into a bad experience for me and my dog Read Less

Well, he did come across as rude, but I went again anyway figuring I can deal with his attitude as long as he's a good vet. The next time I saw one of his associates for my cat's rabies shot. My kitty had lost 40% of her weight, and I asked the dr. if I needed to make a follow-up appointment to find out what was causing the weight loss. She said it was nothing to worry about and said I didn't need to do anything. Well, I took her somewhere else because that is a LOT of weight to lose and I wanted another opinion. It turned out she had severe thyroid disease and heart disease and wouldn't have lived much longer without treatment. I have no idea how he gets voted ""best vet"" over and over again. Read Less

My family and I took our new puppy in for a free exam. We used to take our old dog there when I was a kid and know about how sometimes you have to wait and weren't worried about it. So we checked in and waited. There were only 2 other people there and after about 1/2 hour someone came out and sat down and waited. She said they were waiting for some ear medicatoins for her dog. And we all waited some more. Finally someone brought the stuff out and gave it to her. We finally got called in and OMG the doctor was RUDE and didn't act like she wanted to be there at all (at this point, neither did we). She went through the exam, talked about shots and worming and how they might want to test our puppy's poop and all. Asked if we are going to spay her and when we weren't sure she acted like we were committing some kind of crime, that there are alot of unwanted dogs out there. We didn't say a hole lot, just wanted to get out of there. Her attitude SUCKED and we didn't go there for a lecture. Place has changed alot since my family used to go there and we are going someplace else from now on, may even call the pet store and tell them they might want to recommend a different place for people to go. I went in with my girl friend whose cat was not feeling well. The woman that saw her was rude and didn't really listen when we tried to tell her what was going on. She started spouting off thiings that it could be or not be, what we should do, but maybe we wouldn't do. She didn't act like she knew what the hell she was talking about. We finally agreed on ""basic bloodwork"" and she kept trying to get us to run a whole lot more tests that we didn't feel she needed. She was indoors her whole life and never met another cat in the wild so we really didn't want the ""feline tests"" . After arguing with us for a few minutes she had the tech grab our cat and take her away. They finally came back and told us they got the blood even though she was wiggly. I asked if there was a reason they couldn't get blood in front of us as our cat is rarely away from home and the other clinic we had gone to didn't have a problem doing it with us in the room. She said it's just easier for the cat. We went up front to pay and waited to hear from them the next day. Dr. Copley called and said the bloodwork was all normal but if she still was not acting like herself we should run the other blood tests. We took our cat to a different clinic and they diagnosed her with a bad tooth, they took it out and now she's back to her old self. We will not be going back to Hunter vet and by the way, there were 6 puncture marks on our little girl's throat, so hell no we won't be back.

Read Less

They are honest and explain things thoroughly. Our latest trip has been one of the hardest, my mom just passed and her dog got hit by something after escaping the fence. His little jaw was broken and they treated him like their own. They went above and beyond for my little Rocco and I will forever be grateful. They are reasonable. The staff is amazing all around.

I really recommend this place, they're very honest and good people. Not to mention the best financial option, especially for the quality of care. I always recommend this place to friends. Hunter. Great place. You'll be pleased. Iversons Read Less

I wish there was an option for zero stars. I was referred here by a friend who told me Dr. Hunter was the best, but that he could come across as rude.

Read Less
