After years of going to chain vet clinics in different areas, we gave South Grand Vet Clinic a try. We have been extremely satisfied with Dr. Rush and his staff over the past few years. He helped us through a difficult diagnosis with our first dog, and took the best care of her until the end. His honesty regarding medications, vaccines, etc. is refreshing and very much appreciated. We didn't even consider going anywhere else when we added another puppy to our family. Dr. Rush is a Bada**! You can tell he loves what he does he takes the time to explain to you the diagnosis. His assistant was very sweet with our bulldog and the receptionist greeted us right when we came in and gave our girl lots of treats and love. Been meaning to write this for a really long time. Went here with my cat and got the prognosis that he was dying from a tumor and had to be put down. When I was out at the front desk afterwards talking to the vet, the news caught up with me and I started crying. Well, I guess me being a big dude, I must have really looked hilarious trying to speak in my stuttering sobbing voice because the secretary broke out into laughter (quickly recomposed herself when she realized she was acting like a monster... or maybe it was me glaring at her like I was going to murder her that caused her to slip back into human-mode?). I'll never forget it, and I hope that POS is no longer working there. Also, I was broke and unemployed at the time and I was told that they wouldn't accept payments for the fee of putting my cat down, it all had to be payed up front. I get it that they're running a business, but these are some truly heartless people. And I'm honestly sorry to have to say that but yeah, during one of the lowest points of my life, they were more concerned about making money and started patronizing me and treating me with disdain when they realized that I had none. I had used all the money I had to pay for the prognosis, and I could have payed for them to put my cat to sleep and actually end his suffering if they'd had the slightest amount of flexibility, but nope, their attitude was definitely "stop wasting our time". It's pretty simple, if you have money, all the good reviews you see on here are probably true. I think they'll even drive to your house to put your animal down in a friendly environment . . . as long as you can pay of course. Because if you've got the cash, you can buy all the compassion you want from these folks. But if you're poor, forget it, they became too jaded a long time ago to care. I mean wow, being a vet must be an awful gig, I can't even imagine, having to put down all those little animals and seeing people cry all the time, because it must really mess with you if it turns you into what these people have become. But the good news is that the vet can finally afford that nice boat that he's had his eye on, so there's that. Hooray! Read Less

Love the staff here! Everyone is so friendly and informative. I had a Bernese Mountain Dog with a paw infection this summer and Dr. Rush cured him quickly and even asked for follow up pictures to make sure he was okay and healing correctly. Would recommend! Read Less

We had the good fortune to recently visit South Grand Vet Clinic for the care of our 2 yr old Golden Retriever. Previously we had gone to a different Vet on the South Hill only to be increasingly disappointed in the quality of care and exorbitant prices. After discovering they wanted to charge us $1,600 more for a surgery on our 8 year old pup than the same surgery elsewhere, we knew we needed to find a new Vet that we could trust with our pets. Dr. Rush is second to none! ...We only wish we would have found him sooner and under different circumstances. If you are looking for high quality, personalized care for your beloved pets, look no further! Dr. Rush and his staff were amazing! My first time in there, I just walked in to check what they charged for teeth cleaning for my two doxies. Dr. Rush came out and put a quote together for me himself, and took about 10 mins to go over the whole process and extensively explained every line item on the quote. I decided to schedule an appointment and my experience just kept getting better. The whole staff was friendly and caring. We have two English Mastiffs and a small Basenji mix. Dr Rush is amazing with them all and remembers them whenever they come in. The Mastiffs have more needs physically but the whole staff is always so helpful whenever we bring our whole herd in.Read Less

This place is great! I brought my cat here the day before Christmas Eve. Everywhere else was closed. I was so glad when they answered and stayed open for me and my cat. We love this vets office! Our two dog's, and one cat have been seen here. The entire staff was very caring and helpful when my older dog started having health issues. We have also had to have one same day emergency appointment, and they worked us into their schedule. I would recommend them for their high quality care, knowledge, and very reasonable prices. Brought our dog here for the first time back in October.  He needed to update his shot records.  Dr. Rush was friendly enough to make my dog more comfortable.  He really didn't do much more than that. Felt up my dog for any bumps and growths and 30 mins later we were out of there without an update to the shots.  We needed to board him for two nights and had to visit the Dr. again.  We needed Bordetella updated.  He came in talked to us for a bit and finally gave my dog the shot we needed.  We were charged again for a visit of $49 and a shot cost of $17.  Why didn't he just give my dog the shot the first time instead of having us come and pay for another visit?  We will be looking for another vet. DO NOT - I repeat - DO NOT take your pet to this clinic.  I took my little beloved dog there for a teeth cleaning.  When I picked him up I noticed he was breathing heavily.  I asked Dr Rush and the technician if this was normal and they both assured me it was but to bring him back in the morning if it continued.  A short time later I rushed him to the pet emergency clinic where he died.  The vet at the emergency clinic said his lungs were saturated with fluid, and she couldn't  believe  Dr Rush and the staff didn't discover this during the entire day he was in their care.  She also said to never take another pet to that clinic as this was not the first instance of incompetent care she treated from that clinic.   Then on top of that was Dr Rush's reaction when I called and told him what happened.  He offered no sympathy or real explanation, and of course took no responsibility.  He refused to pay for any of the costs.   I have told everyone Know about this experience in the hopes of preventing it from happening to anyone else.  And after talking with many people about him I discovered that a lot of people have had bad experiences with this clinic. Quite possibly the best veterinary clinic ever. The service, prices, and quality of care are all exceptional. Dr. Rush and his staff clearly love animals and they were even kind enough to overlook the fact that we showed up disheveled and in a mild state of panic. During a 1,500 mile road trip, our boxer injured her paw. After a brief exam they carefully explained the procedure she would need and we left feeling confident that she was in good hands. Two hours later she was bandaged up and groggy, but no worse for the wear. We've been fortunate enough to find good vets in every city we've lived in, but South Grand Veterinary Clinic is by far the best. Read Less
