I am very disappointed with Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital. I took Lola, our Rat Terrier in for shots and annual check up on Friday 2/2/18. Dr. Linda Niedbalski gave her 4 shots Rabies, DHPP, Bordetello and Lepto. In addition there was a blood draw and urine sample taken. On Sunday, Lola started having diarrhea. Lola has been with us since she was 7 months old. She is now almost 11 years old. This is the first time she has had diarrhea in all of that time. Too many shots at once?
Dr. Niedbalski called on Tuesday to say that the tests were good except there was a problem with her urine values and asked me to bring Lola in so that they could draw more urine through a catheter. I mentioned the diarrhea, but that did not seem to be a focus for Dr. Niedbalski. I took Lola in around 9:00 am on Wednesday, 2/7. When I dropped her off I was told she would be ready by 1:00 pm. I finally pick her up around 4:00 pm and they still had not been able to extract urine. Dr. Niedbalski gave me a prescription for an antibiotic to treat the diarrhea. She followed up with a call in a couple of days. At that point we agreed that we would get the diarrhea cleared before doing any more testing. Dr. Niedbalski said she would call again in about a week.
When I did not hear from Dr. Niedbalski by 2/20, I called Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital. She was busy when I called, so I asked that she return my call. I never received a return call from Dr. Niedbalski. I really do not know what to think about this lack of response, but in light of the possible problem detected in Lola's urine sample, I would think that the doctor would be a little more concerned. They did a work up, gave suggestions for treatment plans, provided a high and a low estimate, and let me make the decision. In all, the visit was pleasant and we left with a treatment strategy for our pup. By the way, our min-pin isn't very personable, but he warmed right up to the doctor and technician. I RARELY write reviews and frankly am the cranky-pants that usually only writes when I've had an issue. However, I wanted to give MV a shout-out for their boarding. I'm definitely an 'enthusiastic' single cat owner who when I lived in Chicago and traveled a lot had the lovely benefit of a zoo keeper who would come over and spoil my kitty (the princess in my picture) as if it were her own. Fast forward and now I'm living with a new kitten (who cannot be by himself for long without getting into a mess) and in a new town where I don't know a soul. My only only option was "GASP"... boarding the little guy. I'm not going to admit how nervous I was because it would only make me sound like a crazy cat lady... but let's just say Jax Teller had such a nice time at his first boarding, when he came home he was excited to see me but perfectly normal, tried to get back IN the carrier, and wandered around meowing which he never did before. I don't know that he knew how- being a kitten rescue that never really saw other cats. We just finished our second boarding and apparently he wanted to be petted, let them play with him, and again, came home as well adjusted as he was when I left. None of that hiding under the couch as if he'd been through a war stuff and again...or giving me the 'what did you do' side eye... you know that cat side eye... the only drawback is he seems to like their food better as he's a little more picky when he comes home but I can't tell you how relieved I am to know that he has a good place to go. True, the hours can be tough if you do business travel (closed Sunday and open halfway Sat) but for the holiday weekend when he had to stay an extra day until they opened... frankly I sure got a lot of errands done that day... and I feel like he's an only-cat home school kid who probably benefitted from the extended time with other cats around and strangers. And not once did they make me feel weird bro my concern... which is a huge extra star if there was an option for that! Read Less

I have terminated my relationship for my pets care (Keiko the Schipperke, Maggie the Aussie and Sparky the Cool Cat) after only a years experience with MetVet for two specific reasons. MetVet's hours of operation are too limited, especially for an emergency. I also wonder if the equipment they use for radiographs is operating correctly. My two major complaints are as follows:Due to an incident on 9/18/2015 I realized MetVet is not willing to step up to the plate in the case of a potential emergency. It appeared my Schipperke, Keiko, was stung by a bee on 9/18/2015 at Pt Defiance Park near Ft Nisqually (we are members of the Park Watch Team). I immediately called MetVet at 2:57pm and spoke with Patricia. I explained the situation and the fact that I was parked at the Zoo parking which meant jogging a long trail walk back to the car. Patricia told me to give her Benadryl and go to a emergency facility if Keiko reacted to the bee sting. I carried Keiko (10 lb dog) to reduce her activity level and slow down the speed which the venom would go through her body (Patricia did not offer this advise). We were home by 3:43 at which time I spoke with Patricia again and informed her that Keiko did not appear to have been stung despite the fact the bee was found under her stubby tail.I requested Keiko's entire Patient History upon terminating my relationship with MetVet. To my amazement Patricia incorrectly documented the "bee sting" event on 9/18/2015 - there is NO RECORD of my initial phone call which is when Patricia told me to go to an emergency facility. Patricia only recorded the second phone call at 3:43 with no comment about referring us to a emergency facility. MetVet was open until 5pm that day which clearly indicates MetVet is not willing to step up the the plate in the case of a client's possible emergency even if they MIGHT have to be there after 5pm. You are told to go elsewhere ! PRETTY PATHETIC. Patricia didn't document this event involving Keiko correctly so it makes one wonder how often pet information is deliberately recorded in error. I would recommend owner's request their pet(s) Patient History annually to review for obvious reasons. During our year long relationship with MetVet I became more and more displeased with Patricia's arrogance. I forwarded my phone record to Dr. Warren to substantiate that I, in fact, spoke with Patricia both at 2:57pm AND 3:43pm regarding the Keiko bee sting event. My 10 year old Aussie was needlessly put under anesthesia. On 2/18/2015 Maggie was under anesthesia for teeth cleaning and had 2 teeth extracted. When I picked up Maggie Dr. Warren told me she missed pulling a tooth which was stated also in Maggie's medical records that a tooth (no tooth number indicated) "displayed evidence of decay/resorptive lesion". When Maggie returned on 5/19/2015 to have that tooth removed and after she was put under anesthesia, the observation was reversed. The tooth "did not exhibit the pathology that was identified previously" was written in Maggie's records for the reason the tooth was not removed. MetVet records also state they "submitted dental radiographs to EVD for review". EVD has no record of correspondence regarding Maggie. Dr. Warren refused to provide emails answering these disparities regarding Maggie's dental journey after I reviewed my pets' records upon termination of relationship with MetVet. Putting any pet under anesthesia due to an obvious error in diagnosis is UNACCEPTABLE !!To the three individuals who though this review was funny - it won't be funny when you spend a lot of money for very poor services. Unless you do a records request for your pet(s) medical records you really don't know what the truth is regarding the health of your pet(s). It wouldn't surprise me that the "funny" responses was made by an employees of Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital ! You are entitled to your opinion but there is nothing funny about what is written in this review . . . . Read Less

At first, I was frustrated with the service. Dr. Gray saw my 12 yo old chihuahua for the first time in August 2013 and he had issues as a senior (bad teeth-my fault) but heart was okay according to the wellness exam. Then we had a crisis in early September 2013 and Romeo started breathing heavily, collapsing, wailing, had to give him mouth to nose and take him to the emergency clinic multiple times within a week. I have gotten to know the folks who work at Metropolitan Veterinary since, both doctor Warren and doctor Gray and the amazing support staff who all dealt kindly with my neurosis/anxiety about Romeo's condition. I have felt very supported by them during this difficult time. They have collaborated with other specialists, the emergency veterinary hospital, arranged for cardiology exam, have stayed late when we needed it. Dr. Gray would call and follow up on Romeo. Dr. Gray has been amazing with my Romeo! They have been honest about the scope of their expertise. I am very pleased with their service and would recommend them highly.
Romeo is still not out of the woodworks but we have a cardiologist appointment this following Monday that Dr. Gray encouraged and arranged. We remain hopeful :) Read Less

Best Vet in Tacoma!~
We came here initially with an 18 year old cat who had adopted us but was in rough shape. The amazing care they provided has given the cat real quality of life, he is a fat and happy boy. We have since had emergencies that required surgeries and procedures with other pets, and feel they have been very good at respecting our wishes. They have been excellent at explaining what the issues are, what our treatment options are, and what additional information Dr. Warren is apt to gain from a given procedure.
I could not say enough kind things about Dr. Warren herself, she is AMAZING and I only wish I could find a personal physician that has her attributes to do my own lab work... I trust her with my pets implicitly. She has recently added Dr. Gray to her practice, who met with us late one evening to pick up our cat after mouth surgery. She did extra proceudres on the spot to make sure our cat had the best chance that night of making it through without running to the afterhours emergency and we greatly appreciate her "kennelside manner" and her ability to be compassionate with us through a trying time. She even offered to see our cat the next morning if necessary and followed up with me by phone later that next day. I would happily have any of the vet techs or doctors at Met Vet care for any of my pets.

Metro Vet is a locally owned and operated animal hospital that treats your pets like the family members they are, providing them with compassionate care. Just like you wouldn't drop Granny off at a nursing home where you don't trust the staff, you also need to have confidence in the Doctor you trust to provide your animal's care. Here, they have generous office hours during the week, and even offer some weekend hours. The Technicians and support staff are very helpful both in person and on the phone, I have never been left wanting more answers after a visit or waiting long for my call to be returned if I leave them a message outside of business hours about a concern.Integrity is the hallmark here, great personalized care for your pets, more face time with doctors than you expect, who both take the time to explain and listen to your concerns. I probably shouldn't admit that I feel we should all be paying more for this specialized care.I am quite sure the choices made for my pet here are in its best interest, and not because it is the most expedient/cheapest/easiest approach. The attention to detail and committment to going the extra mile for every creature that walks, crawls or slithers in sets this place apart. You'll know within moments of arriving that you've made a great choice. Read Less

You are entitled to your opinion but there is nothing funny about what is written in this review . . . . Read Less

You can't beat Dr. Warren and her dream team. They are always professional, welcoming, and they genuinely care about the animals and humans that walk through the door. I've never had a check up that was I was rushed nor have I had shots or tests run without fully understanding what they were and the price attached to it. The knowledge of the whole group can't be beat.
I've watched them not only interact with me, but many others when picking up or dropping off my cat for boarding. It's been easy to see both the pets and the owners love the Met Vet staff.Read Less

Read Less
