General Info
Dr. Anthony Brown joined the North End Pet Hospital in March of 2007. He grew up in Olympia, Washington and has lived there his entire life with the exception of his time in Pullman while attending Washington State University (GO COUGS!). He studied Biology and Zoology as an undergraduate at WSU, and also attained a teaching certificate in secondary education. In 2004, he completed his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine, also from WSU. He currently resides in Olympia with his wife, daughters, and beagle, "Nina". Dr. Brown has felt very welcomed at North End Pet Hospital, and looks forward to the community in the future.
Our Staff
Maintaining and enhancing the quality of the staff of a veterinary hospital is critical to the success of the practice. We are fortunate to have a group of energetic, enthusiastic, and capable staff members who work very hard to help our doctors as well as assisting clients in many different ways. Our goal is to make your visit to our hospital as pleasant as possible. We know we have the friendliest veterinary staff in the area!
We have three job descriptions for staff members: veterinary technician, veterinary assistant, and receptionist. Technicians (also called animal health technicians, or AHTs, licensed veterinary technicians, or LVTs) have completed a two year training program in veterinary technology (locally, Pierce College has such a program). In a practice, technicians perform such functions as drawing blood samples, placing IV catheters, running certain lab tests, inducing and monitoring anesthesia, surgical assisting, doing dental prophies, and on and on.
You can imagine how important technicians are in a veterinary hospital! Assistants work with the technicians and doctors, helping with pet restraint and many other tasks under the direction of the technician. Our receptionists, naturally, help clients on the phone and in person with scheduling appointments, facilitating communication between our doctors and clients, invoicing, many clerical tasks, and so on.
We work hard at staff training. We also encourage staff to attend continuing education meetings, and we have a monthly staff meeting that helps us improve our service.

Called to schedule an appointment for a rabies vaccine for my cat who was seen at this clinic, for an initial exam, three months ago. The clinic wanted to perform another exam ($56) before administering the vaccine. Called another local veterinary clinic to ask about their vaccine policy and it was stated they’ll administer vaccines without an exam within a year of the last exam. Would not recommend this veterinary clinic due to this alone; however, the staff was kind.

Thank you North end vets. Several months ago had to put my sweet Emma down and mistakingly took her to Westgate animal hospital. It was aweful. Not all vets are created equal. A week ago it was time for my Rocky. Always a hard choice but he went with love and care from Dr. Vollmar and the staff. It's always a hard choice but at least here they understand and truly care. By the way for those who care about money it was the same. I won't use or recommend any other place. Just sorry didn't know about them for my sweet Emma.

Well... I have been taking both, my dogs and cats to North End Pet Hospital since 1993. Dr Dudley (owner), Dr. Brown, and Dr Vollmer associate doctors are the absolute best! Gotta give Dr. Brown extra props cuz he has been my girl Honeys' Doc for quite some time. About 14 years now and treats her like the princess she is! Spendy, eh...all health care is costly. If you own animals or should I say four legged family members, and you want great treatment, North End Pet Hospital is the place. Also the entire staff is awesome!

Both my cat and the 2 dogs I have had have gone to that vet, they are the best, when I am in there I get the feeling that they really care about my pets well being. And when my puppy past away a few months ago they kept the office open for enough time to let my dad come. By the time they left it was probably 2 hours after the closing time, but they stayed there with me for as long as it took.

They seem great for rich people, I'm sure rich people love them, they have a large staff and are very attentive. But I felt pretty judged when I couldn't afford all the little extras, and tons of monthly medication up front. Sorry, I have to buy one dose at a time. I don't know, I just felt uncomfortable, like they thought I was a bad pet owner. They scanned my dog for a microchip even though I've had her for 9 years, since she was 7 weeks old, and I told them she didn't have one. Did they think I stole her? Do they think all people living on a tight budget are criminals? Am I being overly sensitive? Probably. But I also probably won't be going back.

We have been taking our three dogs and two cats to North End since moving to Tacoma almost two years ago. The vet we see is Dr. Vollmar and she is fantastic! However, all of the staff we interact with is great: Jamie, Renee, Melanie... Everyone that works there is very personable and they genuinely care about the animals they treat. We have taken our bunch in for routine exams and vaccines, illness and medical conditions that require further treatment. This is by far the best veterinarian office I have ever done business with.

Now closed down. I wonder if the bad reviews were actually referring to that place and not the North End Pet Hospital.. That clinic (I don't remember the name) tried to push medicine - did not care about the animals and over vaccinated. They almost killed my cat. Then we discovered the North End Pet Hospital They really care, and work with you to provide quality care for an affordable price. They went the extra mile to save my cat - and did. They loaned me a cat carrier and told me to keep it until I get a new one. Highly recommend.

Pill Pushers (was given a HUUUUUGE packet of material on medications and many lectures on the importance of buying these products through them), Money Grubbers (they will run every little test they can possibly think of wether your pet needs it or not) & will treat you like an idiot (I'm smart, I make my dogs food/treats organically, my pet was insured before I got him and is extremely well cared for). Their care/concern for the wellbeing of your pet only goes as far as your wallet. Any opportunity to make that $ off you seems to be their VERY FIRST concern. I suggest just being smart, know your pet and his/her needs before going in there or they will charge you excessively any and every opportunity they can. Since my pet is insured, the majority of funds get back to me, so please understand this review is based off principle and not coming from someone that simply can't afford to have a pet. I wouldn't recommend this place.

I've been bringing my pets to NE Pet Hospital for about 15 years. I've never had to look any further for quality care, competitive prices or great customer service. Very recently I had to have my sweet cat put to sleep. Dr. Brown, Dr. Dudley, Jesse and the entire staff were so kind. They helped us through this heartbreaking ordeal with the utmost compassion and care. The following day I received a rose and card from the hospital. This touched me more than I can express in this little review. I highly recommend North End Pet Hospital.

Fantastic clinic. Dr. Brown, Kim, Melanie, and Jamie are an exceptional care team. Every time we bring our beagles in I know I'm leaving them in loving hands. I've never received anything less that above expectations care. One of our girls was relaxing with hot water bottles and a fleece blanket in their care after a dental!

Mind you, the border collies might have a different opinion, given that they were the recipients of the shots and oh-so-not-fun (so they tell me) anal thermometer at times. But they love the treats in the pockets.

Let me just say one thing: Do NOT bring rats to this office. Dogs and cats may be different, but overall I did not appreciate the care that was give to my rats. They were grabbed wrong and when I spoke to the doctor, it was as if he didn't have the time and didn't understand what I was saying. My rat has respiratory infections, but he wouldn't do anything about it until I gave him proof. What the hell? If your dog has a seizure, you sure as hell won't need proof! I am never bringing my rats here. Aside from that, they seemed very pet friendly with dogs and the vet's assistant was quite respectful and nice. And my rats have cuts all over their bodies from mites, but said the didn't show symptoms. I am not even sure if he was an exotic pet doctor, but unless you want to be charged for his vague opinion, do not even try here with rats.

Dr Vollmar is the best veterinarian in the Pacific Northwest. I've taken my cats to her since I moved here in 2001 and she has always provided top notch care and treatment for them. She and her amazing staff of vet technicians are exceptionally good with cats. I always recommend her to friends looking for a vet in the area.

The clinic wanted to perform another exam ($56) before administering the vaccine. Called another local veterinary clinic to ask about their vaccine policy and it was stated they’ll administer vaccines without an exam within a year of the last exam. Pill Pushers (was given a HUUUUUGE packet of material on medications and many lectures on the importance of buying these products through them), Money Grubbers (they will run every little test they can possibly think of wether your pet needs it or not) & will treat you like an idiot (I'm smart, I make my dogs food/treats organically, my pet was insured before I got him and is extremely well cared for). Their care/concern for the wellbeing of your pet only goes as far as your wallet. Any opportunity to make that $ off you seems to be their VERY FIRST concern. I suggest just being smart, know your pet and his/her needs before going in there or they will charge you excessively any and every opportunity they can. Since my pet is insured, the majority of funds get back to me, so please understand this review is based off principle and not coming from someone that simply can't afford to have a pet. I wouldn't recommend this place.

I've been bringing my pets to NE Pet Hospital for about 15 years. I've never had to look any further for quality care, competitive prices or great customer service. Very recently I had to have my sweet cat put to sleep. Dr. Brown, Dr. Dudley, Jesse and the entire staff were so kind. They helped us through this heartbreaking ordeal with the utmost compassion and care. The following day I received a rose and card from the hospital. This touched me more than I can express in this little review. I highly recommend North End Pet Hospital.

Fantastic clinic. Dr. Brown, Kim, Melanie, and Jamie are an exceptional care team. Every time we bring our beagles in I know I'm leaving them in loving hands. I've never received anything less that above expectations care. One of our girls was relaxing with hot water bottles and a fleece blanket in their care after a dental!

I have taken my various border collies here for almost 14 years through their various ups and downs and have always had a wonderful experience. Mind you, the border collies might have a different opinion, given that they were the recipients of the shots and oh-so-not-fun (so they tell me) anal thermometer at times. But they love the treats in the pockets.

Let me just say one thing: Do NOT bring rats to this office. Dogs and cats may be different, but overall I did not appreciate the care that was give to my rats. They were grabbed wrong and when I spoke to the doctor, it was as if he didn't have the time and didn't understand what I was saying. My rat has respiratory infections, but he wouldn't do anything about it until I gave him proof. What the hell? If your dog has a seizure, you sure as hell won't need proof! I am never bringing my rats here. Aside from that, they seemed very pet friendly with dogs and the vet's assistant was quite respectful and nice. And my rats have cuts all over their bodies from mites, but said the didn't show symptoms. I am not even sure if he was an exotic pet doctor, but unless you want to be charged for his vague opinion, do not even try here with rats.

Dr Vollmar is the best veterinarian in the Pacific Northwest. I've taken my cats to her since I moved here in 2001 and she has always provided top notch care and treatment for them. She and her amazing staff of vet technicians are exceptionally good with cats. I always recommend her to friends looking for a vet in the area.
