Both good and bad. I was able to get my dog in on the same day I called which was great as my regular vet was booked. The staff were friendly and the vet tech was great. My dog had an infection from an abscessed tooth. He was prescribed antibiotics and pain meds. The estimate for services to have 4 teeth extracted as well as teeth cleaning was between $1400 and $1800! I called my regular vet and faxed them the estimate. They gave a price of between $500 - $600 for the same thing! I took him to my regular vet and had the same work completed for $535...less than 1/3 of what they quoted! Read Less

This clinic has received multiple valid requests for records and an update with correct and legal documentation from an authorized agent on behalf of the stolen dog's true and legal disabled owner that you treated without checking the microchip, yet the office manager refuses to allow us to speak with the owners of the clinic or forward the updated record. Why would anyone continue to trust you if you appear to protect animal thieves and not the true owner of the dog, or um, the dog itself? The law in Washington has been well documented. The program coordinator for the for the Washington State Department of Health with the Veterinary Governors has given direction as to what is allowed. No records as of yet. WHY? Phenomenal very clinic and by far one of the best places in town. We've been taking out dogs there for almost 5 years now and our dogs are happier and healthier than ever. Dr. Martin and her staff have such big hearts and are the most caring we've done business with. We have a very skittish dog and the staff always take their time to make her feel comfortable, especially the vets because they sit down on the floor and let our dog feel less stressed before any examinations. This is the BEST Veterinary Clinic ever! They have done so much for us and our terminal family bunny Chippy. We visited their office for over a year on a weekly basis and received THEE BEST CARE and concern! They have also treated our two other bunnies and new rescue dog and are so wonderful with our pets. I would NOT go anywhere else! They are the most caring, loving and professional people and are like our second family. We loved this place initially. After our visit yesterday, we will never come back. We brought our 20-year old elderly cat in for a check up and ear cleaning. All seemed to go smoothly and the vet assistant that helped our kitty with cleaning his ears told us all went well. The veterinarian came in and asked us if we wanted to give our cat a rabies vaccination, which we declined. He never is outside and at 20, barely gets around inside. He’s literally a little old man. At 20, we do not want to give him anything invasive other than quality of life. After leaving the office and a $260 bill, I got a call from the veterinarian telling me to bring the cat back in immediately because he bit the assistant (which we were never told in the office and she certainly seemed fine), and that they were going to quarantine our cat for 10 days to watch for neurological issues. She said they were sending the assistant to the emergency room. I was in no way going to bring my elderly cat back to be quarantined plus god knows how much more additional cost to board him. When I told her this, she became enraged and said she’d call Animal Control. After three harassing calls from this office and a visit from animal control, we obviously will never be back. Washington state only had one incident of rabies in a cat, btw back in 2000. The only rabid animals are bats in our area. The veterinarian tried to tell me that a bat could get into my house and our cat that barely moves could get rabies if it tries to catch it and eat it. Really unbelievable. We are very responsible animal lovers and owners. We have a kitten that is fully vaccinated. We just do not feel that this indoor elderly cat needs anything unnecessarily invasive at his age and given the fact he never goes outdoors. What a terrible, harassing experience. And what a complete waste of resources for animal control to have to make a house call. Not to mention sending an employee to the emergency room?!? I will be talking to them on Monday and will report what happened. In response to yours: First our kitty is a he. We have vaccinated all of our younger animals. The cat I brought into you was extremely elderly and can barely get around from one room to another. In 20-years, I’ve never had a bat enter my house. Even if a bat entered, the chances of this elderly old man kitty catching said bat and eating it would be astronomical if not laughable given his state. We understand your concerns, albeit in this case being overblown. However, the harassment we received by the vet insisting we bring our cat back to the office to be quarantined were ridiculous. OK..a sad thing happened to my daughter today. Her cat had died two weeks ago. They wouldn't let her take him home (their policy, I guess) So she paid $149.00 for an individual cremation so she could bring his ashes home. This was a feral, Cruzan cat she had in St. Croix and flew to the US about 10 years ago. Well she called this morning and they apologized because Pancho was mistakenly put in a "batch" with tons of other cats. My husband and I love this clinic. We brought our 8 week old puppy in for her first visit, she loves the staff, and we do too. She is currently 5 months old and has loved every visit since. Whenever we show up to the office she gets so excited to say hello to the ladies at the front desk. Even when she gets her shots the tech vets are so helpful and make her so calm. Very disappointed in this Clinic.....They started out very good but not surewhat happened to the consideration of other people's pets. They had my little dog 8 hours and did not even start the dental cleaning that I had scheduled. Sadie was bought in 7:30 in the morning did not hear from them so my husband called at 3:30pm.They said they had a emergency. Who knows. I understand that if this is true emergencies come up. What I was upset about is that they had no consideration to call and give us the option to reschedule or do we want to proceed and she would of been finished at 7pm. At that point we went and picked Sadie up. I will not be using these Vets again. My wife and moved to Vancouver last year. We are so blessed to have found Dr Martin and her team for our three small dogs. Recently in a short period of time, two of the three dogs in the family had to have surgery. Dr Martin, I am convinced you brought one of our dogs back to us most likely after years of being mis-diagnosed and past dental work done incorrectly. Thank you!! I really like having this place so close to home. Our fur baby is almost 14 and has had problems lately. He was unable to keep food or water down and I thought I may be taking him in for his final rest. The staff was incredible! Even late in the evening, they ran several tests and prescribed meds for him way past closing time. Apparently he had pancreatitis. After giving him the medication for the time they recommended and putting him on the amount of food he should have per day, he's like a puppy again. They also called during his recovery window to check on him. I love that! I really appreciate the love and care they showed in a time of need. Read Less

Had to pts my baby boy of 12 years after i found out he had a tumor in his lungs. I didnt go to work that day cause i was so upset. I sat in my truck for about 10 min, before i went in. When i did go in and had to fill paperwork out to do the procedure. I didnt bring in my money (from truck) to pay for services cause my mind was out of it. All i know is i wanted to get to my baby. Well, when it was time to do procedure they wanted to sit with my baby while i went and paid for services....really???? Usually you pay after. The lady says " its so u dont have to stay , you can just leave". I said, NO!! I wont get to be with my baby anymore. i dont want to take any time away to go and pay! The nurse then went out of room whispered some words to Dr. and, they both came into room after. Shortly after procedure i said ' i left my money in truck, i have to go grab it. The nurse followed me to my truck. I have never felt so uncomfortable. I dont know if the Dr. put her up to that or if thats how they treat all their customers. Why would she follow me to my truck?? They were not very empathetic at that clinic. Or at least not the nurse.Read Less

I am new to Vancouver Washington and have taken all my (6) and my daughter has taken all her (5)dogs to this practice and we are very satisfied with both Vets, Techs, and front staff. Everyone has been very nice. The Vets I feel really take their time with our pets and I never feel rushed! This office deserves more then 5 stars. We had to put our mouse down and they where extremely compassionate and caring. We called a few places and some where wanting 80/100 to euthanize a mouse. I called here and was quoted about 15. Not only where they affordable. They cared and answered all questions kindly and not in a judging manor. Not very happy with how much I paid for blood work and antibiotics and nausea pills. Also found out today went I took her to get spayed that she does have fleas when I was told she didnt have any. She also did not have an infection in her uterus. I understand that everything is based on an educated guess but they never took xrays and assumed that there was something wrong with her uterus. I have been threw an emotional rollercoaster, being told my dog would die if I didnt come in for more antibiotics,xrays,and a spay. Definitely will not be taking my dog back here. Two weeks ago I said goodbye to my best friend, Wally. He was an English Bulldog and the last two years of his life he suffered from severe allergies/autoimmune issues. Wally loved Dr. Martin and the staff at Salmon Creek. He trusted them deeply and spent the last minutes of his life in their care. Not only were they kind, compassionate and knowledgeable, they were always available to guide me through whatever issue I was having with Wally. Since he passed, they have kindly remembered my grief. We have taken several pets here over a 20 year period.  The new owners and staff are either too busy making money or too inexperienced to follow up on simple requests.  I called for an appointment and was promised a call back and no call.   Well, this can happen.  I called again, we went in and the dog needed more than could be handled on the spot. I asked for a quote for the procedure and was told "well, a minimum of $100."   What?   Who wants a minimum quote?  I need to know the actual quote. They must think people will pay any amount for their pet.  Start high and go up from there.  I was promised an email, the girl scribbled down my email on paper that looked like a scratch pad and no other info.  Well, guess what no email.The tech is a nice lady, but she is working with an incompetent front office.There are many competitors, so we will take our three pets elsewhere now.  Any suggestions? I took my dog in for grooming and was told that it would be $25 for nail clippings and a facial trim. When i returned however, they said that it would $38 because my dog had some matting that had to be trimmed as well. Not happy about the up charge. It would have been one thing to tell me it's possible that the bill would be more depending on what they had to do, but to charge me like that is not ok. I will not be back. This is by far the worst veterinary clinic I've had the misfortune of visiting. I was quoted a very high price for a procedure to remove a growth on my dog's leg ($1200) and was told that the price included everything needed for the surgery and all follow up care related to the procedure. When I picked up my dog after the procedure, I noticed that several things weren't done that I was told would be done. I wasn't refunded any of the money and was told that one of the things was too dangerous (then why did I have to pay for it and then not refunded?) and the other thing was just forgotten (still no refund). But I accepted that and was told that I would have to bring my dog back in a couple of days to have her bandage changed. When I took her back, I was told that the bandage would cost $25 and it would have to be paid for up front. When I tried to argue that I was told "everything" was included, I was told that if I wanted my dog's bandage changed, I would have to pay. My dog had a very serious procedure and the bandages had to be changed two to three times a week. They didn't cut any slack on the price, either... $25 each time. Then, of course, my dog needed tons of medicine, all of which was not cheap. They would not change the bandage or give me the needed medication unless it was paid for up-front. After many months, I stopped in at the vet's office to pick up flea medication (I only went back because it is close to my house), only to be told that I had an outstanding balance that would have to be paid before I could purchase the flea medicine. When I questioned this, I was told that the initial charge had been $16.45 for medication (which I argued because they made me pay for everything up-front) but since it had not been paid, it had accrued a late fee of $5 per month (they said it was purchased in December of 2014). Of course, I've never received an invoice or anything like that. When I made a fuss, a lady came to the front and said the Dr said I would need to call when the office manager was in, if I had a problem. So, I left and decided that I should warn people about this place. This is not the same Salmon Creek Veterinary Clinic that it use to be, so be warned. Read Less

I like this vet. After spending almost $400 for both my dogs to be license and have their shots I ended up spending another $107 or medicine for my dog because she had a bad reaction to her shot. She had a reaction after seven days. With their seven-day policy of visiting their clinic for a free exam after the procedure we were two days short of our office visit being free. Be warned that you need to come in before the seven days are up. Besides that factor this is a good veterinary clinic. The staff are very nice and good to all furry creatures that come in. I wouldn't bring my cats anywhere else. I had some extremely poor fortune after adopting sibling kittens from the shelter in which the little boy soon began showing neurological symptoms and rapidly declined. Dr. Martin and the rest of the staff (especially tech Erin and all of the lovely receptionists) showed extreme compassion as we became regulars and knew that chances were high he would not make it. I was always comfortable making difficult decisions as they provided me with helpful information and did not pressure me to do treatments if I declined. Dr Martin cried along with me the day he no longer had the strength to keep going, as well as the day I had to bring his sister in after a horrible accident. Seriously the best vet in Vancouver. They work with you, and truly care about animals, even strays I found during the paper route. And the kindness, compassion, and care, when it came time to put down two of our family members, Rocky the cat and Buster the dog. Both lived very long healthy lives. We now live in Boardman OR and my Folks in Anderson Island WA, and have yet to find such a wonderful establishment to care for our pets. Our border collie hurt herself playing fetch and we found a few lumps that we were concerned about so we took her here. I have to say of all the vets I have worked with this place is by far the best! Dr. Martin was super sweet, had a great sense of humor, and was really thorough in her examination of our dog. Our dog is very skittish and Dr. Martin got down on the floor to examine her, gave her some good scratches and treats to make her feel better. This place definitely cares about animals and I would highly recommend this place if your furry loved one needs any care. The staff is very friendly and you'll feel at home! Read Less

While we will miss Dr William Cleveland forever, the Clinic has become the venue for Dr Polly Martin.  Dr Martin has now seen ALL of my furbabies and we are already big fans.    She is thorough, friendly and kind.   Just hope that when Dr Martin needs a sub, she calls in Dr Jud Witherspoon, who was also a fantastic vet.The care for our animals has never faltered under the vets at this clinic and I don't think we will ever change.  I've thought about it, but, honestly, the cost is worth the time to visit with such fabulous vets.  If you're looking for a veterinarian, shop around, then come visit Salmon Creek Veterinary Clinic for friendly service and awesome care. Everyone was very friendly here and the examinations are thorough. We talked about how we can best manage our dog's separation anxiety. They gave me some great tips (such as using doggie pheromones and lavender oil) in additional to the medication and training that we do.The only reason for 4 stars is that they do not accept American Express :( Read Less

Just back from Salmon Creek Vet Clinic with 3 of the furbabies. Dr Polly Martin has bought the practice and has now dedicated her career to caring for the patients at this clinic along with adding some more, I'm sure. Dr Cleveland was the best vet I ever had the pleasure of dealing with. Dr Martin will soon become one of those vets I won't want to leave. New staff member, Amber, was very kind as well, offering to help carry all the babies into the exam room. The service never really went below my standard of care, but felt discombobulated for the past couple of years waiting for Dr Cleveland to come back to us. I'm happy to report for those who are looking here for news that Dr Martin (unfortunately, not Doc Marten) is friendly, helpful and very kind with furbabies. Read Less

We took our dog to see Dr. Witherspoon for the first time this morning. It was somewhat of an emergency and we had no appointment. We called first and were told they could fit us in 1 hour later. This was the first time we went to this clinic and it quickly became obvious why they have so many positive reviews. The staff was friendly and the clinic was clean. But what really sets this clinic apart from others that I have been to is Dr. Witherspoon. He is knowledgable and obviously loves animals. Unbelievably, there was no attempt to up sell anything. In fact, he recommended that we stop using a product that we had been using since our dog was a puppy, saying that in the pacific N.W. it's not necessary and we were wasting our money. Years ago I loved this Clinic and Dr Cleveland. I have spent thousands of dollars there, with no regrets. Since then I have re-married and have a different name, I had the need to take my cat in to this clinic for the 3 time in a few years. When I called I told the front desk what I had already tried to remedy the problem with my cat, and that I needed to know what else I could do, but that I didn't have a ton of money. What would they suggest? She booked the appointment for me, and before I even was brought into the exam room, I was given a very dirty look by the vet when he walked by. I was then told at the beginning of the exam "I don't have a crystal ball, what do you expect me to do". REALLY? I should have left, but I love my cat, and needed to do something. Anyway, bottom line is I have spent 500.00 dollars, had another rude visit with a different Vet there, I am not even sure if they really did do the blood work on the cat as they said, and I still have the same problem with her! I have since changed Vets, and have requested my cats chart. It has been a week now and they have not responded. The only reason for giving them 1 star is there is 1 Veterinarian that did call me at home, no charge and seemed to be caring and helpful. He should jump ship before the ships sinks.Read Less

What kind of person wants to be a Veterinarian?  You're working with beings that cannot communicate, will likely bite you and more likely than not need to be muzzled... and then there are the animals, not just their owners.  It takes longer to become a Vet than a Doctor for humans and you have infinitely more to learn.  Well I don't know what psychological makeup it takes to do all this but I am damned glad that Dr. William Cleveland chose this path because he is, hands down the best Vet I have ever encountered.The staff is amazing and has through our last four dogs (Zachary Taylor, Dammit, Maggie, Chloe) been a tremendous help in maintaining their health.  When it came time to put down Dammit they were supportive and made the whole horrible thing somewhat bearable.  After we lost Zachary, even though an emergency Vet had to do the putting down, they sent a card.  Now we have Bristol the Coonhound and Cappy (short for Cappuccino) the half Lab/half Heeler.  We are sure that they too will have long, healthy lives.The people at Salmon Creek Veterinary Clinic always handle us so well, be it in person or on the phone.  This last 4th of July we knew we would have nervous issues with Bristol the Gun-shy Coonhound so I called and asked about tranquilizers, they dispensed them to us without even a visit with Bristol.  They know the dog and keep good records, what an easy remedy to something we thought would be a problem.One warning, if you are making an appointment try and avoid Monday's, especially early, because all the people who have problems with their pet over the weekend come in for an Emergency visit. You will have an extra wait on your hands.I don't care where you live in the Portland Metroplex, it's worth the trip across the river to come see Dr Cleveland and his associates here. Read Less

I have used Salmon Creek Vet for at least 15 years. Dr. Cleveland is a wonderful vet and his staff has always been so helpful and understanding. We had to have our very dear old dog put down last month and the last days of treatment, xrays, etc were very stressful to us. They were wonderful and helped us with the creamation service.
