We adopted an American Pitbull Terrier from the Humane society and were given a voucher to the clinic for a free exam and 250 worth of additional care if needed. We went at 8 am and the front desk staff was incredibly friendly and welcomed him with open arms. He's the biggest cuddle bug you've ever met. The vet, however, was absolutely horrible. She was very condescending and very cold. Our dog has some skin issues right now and we tried asking questions about how to treat and possible options. The vet barely examined our dog and answered in a manner that inferred we weren't very bright... basically treated us like idiots. In the brief look she took at his skin, she had him by the collar and was choking him. He was audibly choking and visibly uncomfortable at that point. Up to then he was happy, tail wagging, attention seeking him. When she left the exam room, she left without saying a word to us. The vet tech came in and had to let us know the exam was over. I recently made a first time appointment for my cat who had runny eyes, discharge in his ears, and a pretty terrible sounding cough. When the vet came in they listened to his lungs (sounds clear), took a glance in his ears (with no tools or light) and told me it was dry skin. She didn't even take a second glance at his eye but started asking me about his eating habits and if he'd lost weight. Her first suggestion was to do a full blood work panel which would have cost over $400 with the office visit. I asked for an antibiotic for his eye and was sent home with an oral broad spectrum and no idea what was wrong with his eye.
I got a second opinion today and they vet I saw was able to diagnose him with minimal effort. All he did was look at this eye and in his ears and sent me home with an ointment for his eye and peace of mind.
I feel like VCA ripped me off and tried to upsell me on unnecessary and expensive procedures without thoroughly examining my pet. I do not recommend them and would appreciate a refund. Read Less

We have four fur babies that we take here. Almost all of the staff is friendly and helpful. There is one person at the front desk who simply should not work in any form of customer service. All of the other front desk is extremely friendly and helpful. I love all of the vet techs, they are all very knowledgeable, and friendly. There is one in particular that I always wish was our vet because I love her, she's amazing. I like all the vets but one, I believe he is rude and thinks highly of himself. He treats you like any issue with your pet is your fault, he makes you seem like a child. He will explain things in the "simplest terms so you can understand" and will even draw you pictures to help. I wish I could say I liked him but I don't. I believe dogs have a good sense of character and one of my dogs hates him, he will bark at him as soon as he walks in and won't let the vet touch him. He always calls him a she every time we see him. Last time I went in I discussed an issue with the vet tech and she gave me advise. I then later discussed it with the vet and he interrupted me and told me that she's only a technician and she doesn't know what she's talking about. There are a million ways to handle a tech being "wrong" but interrupting me and essentially calling her less than you is the wrong way. We love all of the other vets there, just try and steer clear of that one. I won't give names but I'm pretty sure he's the only male vet. I've seen a lot of comments about being overpriced, I'm not sure if this is true because we haven't taken our babies anywhere else. Our pets have been patients at this establishment for almost a decade. I called a couple of days ago and again this morning to make sure they had feline flea medication in stock. They said they did. I said I'd be in later today. When I went by, I was told for the first time that I had to request it 24 hours before picking it up. When I said that I'd called twice about it, she said I could wait 10-15 minutes for them to process the request. After waiting, I went back up to the desk to ask about something else, when she said one of our cats hadn't been in since 2015, and so they could only sell me a non-Rx medication. I knew that wasn't right, but since Paradyne was the only thing Dr Lynn had recommended, I was confused. I asked if it was cheaper. She said the Paradyne was $240 and the other was $185. That's a big leap in price so I didn't buy any. I came home and found the record where the cat in question had her shots summer 2016 and got her tag renewed based on that statement. I called VCA back and told them, but got put on hold, so I hung up. The phone rang shortly after. It was Brooke who said she didn't know if we'd been disconnected, and I told her I hung up because I was tired of having my time wasted. She said, "Perfect," and hung up. That's how little she cared about our animals. I was going to get a copy of their records to take to another vet, but then realized that's a waste of time since they obviously don't keep them. We have been going to EMPAH for a few years now and haven't really had any issues. But a few months back, I brought in one of my dogs to get a quote of how much it would cost to have her teeth cleaned. I saw Dr. Lynn and she stated to me that due to the age of my dog, she wouldn't recommend getting the dog's teeth cleaned because the dog wouldn't live much longer anyways. WHAT!?! How could you say that to somebody?
So due to Dr. Lynn's comment, I gave this animal hospital 4-Stars and REFUSE to see that doctor anymore. We only see Dr. Alayson Phelps when we have to see a vet. If she isn't available, then we either wait or take our pets to a different location.
Other then that incident, we have enjoy the rest of the staff there and the services they provide. Read Less

I've been going to this vet clinic for years, and have now finally realized they are only about the money and not the animals. She called me crying and I gave them payment over the phone with my credit card. We will never take our animals here again. Poor customer service and focused only on their profit. I am so very grateful to Dr. Alayson Phelps for being willing to see my dog Saturn who had displayed fear based aggression to veterinarians at two other vet clinics. I was so afraid of being turned away and not getting any help for my dog who was in pain. Dr. Alayson was the first vet to take x-rays on Saturn which revealed hip dysplasia and significant arthritis. The treatment she prescribed relieved his pain and he began to enjoy life again hiking with me daily. Dr. Alayson is great at explaining about Saturn's medical issues and treatment plans and at answering my follow up questions via phone and email. She really goes the extra mile! Recently, Saturn lost control of his rear legs. He had fallen off his car ramp 3 times and almost fell down the stairs. Dr. Alayson came to the rescue again treating Saturn via telemedicine and recommending a great harness for me to help Saturn up. I was so worried that Saturn was headed for partial paralysis but two days before Thanksgiving he was walking normally again. The staff at VCA East Mill Plain are wonderful too. I have known Brittany and Faye for years and they are like family! Some of the staff that are new to me are some of the nicest most friendly people I have ever met! I simply can't say enough nice things about how truly helpful and caring Dr. Alayson Phelps and staff are! Read Less

Read Less

We are so impressed by the outstanding treatment our Winnie has received at VCA East Mill Plain Animal Hospital. I do not know each staff member by name yet but everyone is kind and courteous. They have been helpful with billing and paperwork and Mari was able to help with our insurance claims. Dr. Alayson is always available to respond to questions and has been our liason since Winnie became a patient last year. Winnie has also been treated by Dr. Lynn and Dr. Kate and each doctor and veterinarian tech has treated with her with kindness and care. With staff that we can trust and knowing that the office is open 7 days a week we are assured that quality medical care is close at hand. They also work with VCA Northwest Specialists and from personal experience we can recommend both the dermatology and ophthamology services. Read Less

I've been going to this vet clinic for years, and have now finally realized they are only about the money and not the animals. My daughter brought her cat in and was unprepared for the exam fee, offered to pay it the next day, but they wouldn't let her leave until she paid and forced her to apply for credit. She called me crying and I gave them payment over the phone with my credit card. We will never take our animals here again. Poor customer service and focused only on their profit. They also have the habit of blaming the owner of the pet for the pet's health problems...this has happened a lot to me with them. I'm done with this clinic. What a horrible place. Read Less

Read Less
