The one star could be considered left for the few employees who actually deserve it. EXTREMELY poor management! I can not stress this enough. Racist incidents left with no disciplinary action, but very quick to discipline the one black employee they did have over EVERYTHING (there is now a newer doctor of color who doesn't experience this, then again he is a doctor). They never verify the truth, just punish per words of who they like. This is a very "favorites" kind of position, very clicky. The office manger doesn't know how to manage and is rude, she will confront you on the floor infront of everyone without knowing what the situation is. She hired her own daughter and tried to promote her to management. She also has given her daughter multiple raises so that she made more than everyone else on the floor or just as much within a small time frame. As the only colored enployee and one of the longest working 2nd shift receptionist with the most experience, I made less then everyone else by a dollar at least. These girls were mostly waiters whereas I have multiple feilds of management and government credentials with college education. It doesn't matter if you report any incidents to higher management, everyone is friends and has been for years. There are some incidents of management silencing situations when they should have been reported to HR. They instead, were "dropped" with no follow up. I had spoke with a supervisor at one point about a concern I had with the daughter and her micromanagement. The next day I was pulled into the office and blamed for things broken, an attitude, not doing my job well, and anything else she could quander. It was clear this was a desperate attempt to try and hush me, her mama bear was out not the manager. I worked here for over a year and have never felt such disrepct and embarrassment in my life. I have been humiliated and taken for granted daily at this position no matter how many hours I pick up or try to help. I resigned although if I had stuck it out for another year, I could've bought my house. I was just so desperate enough to finally leave that I put off buying a house another 2 years at least. Some disgustingly rude doctors with too high of egos. Dr. Bruce has screamed at me, literally, for letting him know patients have returned for him. The rest of the surgeons are amazing and have always been friendly. The same goes for the ER doctors, we have some really great ones and some who only want money. I would highly recommend the Brocks, Bal, Leonard, or Dale should you be searching. I'm sure there are some other great doctors I'm missing. I've personally heard along with a supervisor (we were in the doctors station) doctors mocking the receptionist because our job "wasn't hard how can they struggle or not have time to do something." The comment was never addressed, no one cared. The biggest thing is to make sure you CHECK YOUR PAYSTUB. This company steals and forgets pay. Sometimes it's the differential and sometimes they "gift" you money for their store specifically and then take it all back from your next check. Management notices and doesn't say anything until a Staff member realizes. They call it taxing and don't give it back. They gifted us $500 for their store for COVID and decided they'd just take $300 of it out of our check for taxes. Some people got the entire $500 taken back. Basically, they tax about 55-100% for anything given. If I don't see this reflect on my taxes per the irs and its covid pay policies, it has to turn into a lawsuit. Finally, If you are ever told there is no payment plan, be aware there is one! If you don't have funds at the time of service, just say you do anyways. They make you sign some forms after and let you know if you dont make payments they send the info to collections. Dont fear the prices, just go and say you have the funds. At the end say you have nothing, you still got the services. This doesn't apply to the hospitalized patients by any means. I could go on with this review, but if you've made it this far, you get the picture Read Less

Top drawer service and experience in dealing with a tricky operation for our 8 y/o beagle/foxhound. She had a parathyroid condition that left untreated would have fried her kidneys. Nothing but highest compliment to Dr. “Ryan” who was our dog’s surgeon. He presented everything in succinct and concise detail, allowing us to make our surgical decision. The staff gave our pet the best care and attention. I received frequent and informative updates twice daily from Dr Ryan. Couldn’t have been happier with everything. To be sure, this procedure cost several thousand dollars. However, when you consider the level of expertise required, as well as the years of training and experience of the entire staff, you cannot expect a $99 deal. I would definitely recommend Animal Referral of Appleton and their services. Read Less

After Walker our 12 year old Lab/Chow mix stopped eating I took him to the Animal Referral Center. Lisa Peters saw him and was very kind and honest about his outcome. There could have been a lot of expensive testing done with the end result being the same however she did not do that. She did one test to check for cancer and found a large amount. She was very honest about his outlook. Thank you very much for your kindness during one of the worst times in my families life. Walker was put to sleep peacefully and is no longer in pain. I recently experienced a shockingly quick health decline of my beloved feline friend, Joey, who had kidney failure from an unknown cause at only 8 yrs old. We took her to Fox Valley Animal Referrals Center, and though she tragically did pass after 3.5 days of treatment, I feel very lucky to have taken her there. The care team, from front desk all the way to the 3rd shift ICU staff, were super attentive, patient and seemed to truly care throughout the entire process. I have had two previous emergency pet care experiences at different locations in other states and I can say that this was far and away the best experience I have ever had with a veterinarian care facility. I want to specifically call out Dr. James Graham, who was the DVM who was the main director of Joey's care, for being the best Veterinarian I have ever interacted with. He took a lot of time with myself and Joey's Papa to explain every step of the process and be sure we understood all options before taking any steps. He seemed very concerned with Joey's progress and never once seemed to talk down to us or belittle how important Joey was to us. He was very clear on the cost estimate to start, and kept me updated on any changes to totals (as she was hospitalized with them for 3 days). His estimate at the start was dead on, by the way, and really quite reasonable for 3.5 days of 24 hour ICU care (The total cost was 1/3rd of the cost I had experienced at another vet ER for only 1 day of care). I truly felt Dr. Graham was a huge blessing during a terrible situation. I fully and highly recommend Fox Valley Animal Referrals Center for any pet health needs (and strongly recommend Dr. James Graham if he can be requested). Read Less

Ken & I on behalf of our baby girl Miss Valerie Jo Valentine would like to thank everyone at the Vet hospital. Especially Dr Sara and the surgeons for taking care of our girl with respect and dignity. They all conversed and decided it wasn't her disk. We thought she would have surgery and come home but with a brain tumor, in pain and no use of her left side we had to make a decision to let her be at peace. We were made to feel like Val was special, which she was to us and others. Thank you for your patience with us and your sympathy for our loss. We were also amazed that you asked to get us something to drink or eat. And to help us find a place to stay. God Bless and keep doing your expertise in Vet care. God Bless Read Less

My dog was treated here on 5/13/18. I will say she was treated quickly once we got there. We had to wait in a small room for hours with little updates on how our dog was doing. My dog received multiple stitches and her wounds were "closed" The following day the wounds opened twice leaving blood stains everywhere. And today the wounds opened up again and I called to bring her back in and I was told it was going to cost a few hundred more to repair their mistakes. One of the wounds doesn't even look like they attempted to close it. they just hid there mistakes by wrapping it up in a bandage. Other people may rate this place well but don't be fooled. they are just out to steal your money and provide unsatisfactory care. I will never bring my animals here again and I will do everything I can to prevent other animals owner from getting cheated Read Less

Our regular vet referred our difficult, anxious dog, Grommet, for an ultrasound to help diagnose intermittent blood in his urine in late August of 2017. All staff at FVARC were very patient and kind with him. They knew how to put him at ease. They allowed me to help with sedation, and listened to what I know about my own dog's behavior. Ultrasound revealed a very large mass on his kidney. Dr Bruce immediately offered to do the surgery the very next morning. Kidney and mass were removed, Grommet recuperated well from the surgery, and was back to his normal self in no time (his only symptom was the blood). The mass was malignant, and Dr. Bruce of course could not guarantee that the cancer had not spread. He offered his best guesstimate of time and minimal drug therapy, as Grommet was not going to be a good candidate for chemo or radiation. Grommet is still thriving 7 month later. I have been to FVARC several times over the last 20 years with various cats and dogs, and have always been pleased and grateful for the care they have received whether it was an emergency, a yearly check with the cardiologist, an allergy appointment, a cancer re-check, a knee surgery or a merciful euthanasia. I realize that to some the prices can seem high, but human medicine would be multiplied 100-fold for these traumas, emergencies and surgeries. We are lucky to have this resource in our area to care so wonderfully for our beloved pets. Read Less

We recently took our dog in for a “routine eye exam”. Dr. McDonald and her tech Julie were WONDERFUL! Julie was calm, kind, and compassionate during the first steps of the eye exam and made sure that Robbie was comfortable, too. Dr. McDonald was wonderful during the whole process of the eye exam. She explained everything to us and kept referring to Robbie as “Sir” (secretly I think he liked that :) ). After giving us his diagnosis, Dr. McDonald answered, in great detail, all of the questions we had. She gave us a plan for Robbie’s follow up care and made us feel confident in the care plan. Dr. McDonald will also send communication to our regular vet in regards to Robbie’s exam. I cannot be more grateful for Dr. McDonald and the entire staff at Fox Valley Animal Referral Center. I will make sure to refer my friends and family for any specialty care. Read Less

Update: After speaking to ANOTHER veterinarian and getting her blood work, a full body exam, etc., she was diagnosed CORRECTLY with a double ear infection. Obviously these veterinarians at this expensive, supposedly “high-end” clinic are not trained to the extent they should be. Perhaps, think of it in the shoes of the patients. If you paid big money, and trusted that veterinarian to find out what was wrong, was misdiagnosed with something that is so off the mark, and was forced to pay money somewhere else to get her properly diagnosed, wouldn’t you be upset? Instead of having a sprained shoulder, she had a double ear infection. While we will not be pursuing compensation, as we don’t see it’s worth it, I would like to say I DO understand your explanation for the wait time, which is understandable and for which I apologize for complaining about said issue. My main dissatisfaction is the lack of hospitality and care I believe we received, and our misdiagnosis. Also, I must say, I find it somewhat alarming and strange they take my pet into another room during examination. How am I to be sure that a thorough check-up is being done? It is just not worth the money to receive the treatment we got and the lack of care and concern we got from most of the staff. Please take your pets elsewhere if you care about them and if you want them in good hands. Take a short drive to Oshkosh and take them to that animal hospital, as that one has kind and intelligent staff. If I had the chance, I would give 0 stars. Staff doesn’t seem to be concerned that you are waiting, or that your pet is in need of help. If you look at the previous reviews, I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO NOTICED THIS! We took our pet in on a Friday night, was told she had something wrong with her shoulder, when it wasn’t her shoulder at all. We come in the following Monday for a recheck, that was promised to be free, yet when we got there, was told we would be charged $60, more if the doctor thought we should be charged more. We waited for an hour and a half, and was still not seen. We ended up walking out and the staff did not seem too concerned. If you go by the other reviews as well, staff quality and wait time seem to be two great issues. For the immense amount of money that you are charged JUST to walk in the doors and even talk to a doctor, this place is NOT worth it. If it’s an “emergency” facility, shouldn’t patients with emergency or concerning issues be seen quickly? If the staff really do “care” about animals and their well-being, would they really be making all of these paying customers wait? Certainly not. This is the worst experience I have had at any medical facility, human-related or veterinary related. Take your pets to another primary vet or if it really is an emergency, go somewhere else. It truly is not worth it. Read Less

Updated 12/20/17 Waiting again. Thank you to the administrator for responding. However, I called per the invitation, was told administrator was in a meeting in her office, and was told I would get a call back. I gave my information. I have not received the call back. It has been 24 hours, which more than adequate time to address a customer satisfaction issue. Original Post One of the worst customer experiences I have had. Had to wait every step of the way. Triage, wait. See technician, wait. See vet, wait, Dog gets fluids, wait, Dog returned to us, wait 30 minutes to get our bill! Had to ask 2 times. Asked to have bill sent to our house, they declined. We have excellent credit. Get bill, and they tell us to wait again for discharging! We said no. They gave us a piece of paper to read and we left. Overall diagnosis was OK, but we felt they were trying to sell us expensive x-ray and blood work. We declined those items. Unless it is a dire emergency, I recommend looking at other options. Surprised they stay in business. Read Less

My Chocolate Lab had to have two TPLO surgeries there.  Tore her cruciate ligament in both knees.  The two surgeries set us back over $7,000.  The surgeon was very friendly and surgeries went well.  After the first surgery I had a very ODD experience with a vet tech/assistant (don't recall her name).  My Lab  has NEVER growled at anything or anyone...till going to this place.  When going in to have the stitches removed, my girl growled menacingly at the female vet tech/assistant.  The woman looked at Tillie and barked at her something like "You remember me don't you!"  Really scary...before I had a chance to ask her what she meant by that comment the doctor came in the room and I was distracted.  Point being, this woman must have done something TERRIBLE to my baby for her to growl at the sight of her.  When Tillie sees the front of the building, she shakes and I had to drag her into the place she is so afraid.  Didn't have a choice because they are the only place in town to do this surgery...just glad it is over and hopefully I will never have to go back there :-( Read Less

On Sunday 3/26/17 our beloved dog Fiona was brought to this clinic. She was 8yrs 9months old. All staff I came in contact with were wonderful caring people. My most lengthy contact was with Dr. Dale Weihing. There is not enough room for me to tell youhow wonderfully he treated me and the family members with me. He was kind, caring, compassionate, and honest. Never pressured me to do anything I did not want to do. He left us alone as long as it took to make a decision. We know the kindest thing to do was to let her go. Again he let us spend as much time as we needed to say goodbye. Body was treated with great respect. He also assured me he felt I had made the right choice and to never feel guilty. She was more than "just a dog" to as and I am so grateful I took her there. God Bless each and every one of these people. Also offered to give us a paw print and a bit of her hair, which I chose to do. While my heart is broken I will never forget these wonderful people. The people there are really great. The front desk people are nice and very friendly. The techs and vets are helpful and seem very caring too. I got the answers I needed, for the most part. And, they are open 24/7. But there are two negative issues that they need to address, 1) it's very expensive, and 2) the wait is ridiculously long, even when it's not busy. I've been there 3 times with my dog and once with my girlfriend for her dog. The typical wait to actually see a vet is 3 hours...and the last time I was there for 4 hours! If I did that with my business, I'd be out of business. To have to wait long one time, OK. To have to wait hours a second time, bad luck. To have to wait a third time, it's a staffing issue. But, to have to wait hour upon hour again, time after time, it's not bad luck or them getting suddenly busy, it's a problem with the facility that needs to be addressed. This wait issue has been an issue year after year, not a recent thing or a time of year thing or a "we got busy" thing. It's otherwise a great place. So, be prepared to wait...for hours.Read Less

After several surgeries for my dog that failed, I got referred to Fox Valley Animal Referral Center. I had consults elsewhere before going here for a consult to make sure I felt comfortable enough to let someone operate on my puppy again. I had a consult with Dr.Frank and he was very honest and respectful about the situation compared to other places that told me my dog will need to be put down or go through radiation even though his biopsy from his tumor with every surgery was benign. Out of all of the places I had consultations with, I decided to go to Fox Valley Animal Referral Center and I am very glad I made that choice. Every single staff member was very kind and helpful. Granted the surgery was a very invasive surgery, my dog recovered so well afterwards. In fact, he recovered better than he did with any of his previous surgeries that were not as invasive. I am very impressed with how well he was operated on by Dr.Frank and the care he received from everyone when he was admitted overnight. I would absolutely recommend this place to everyone for how well they treated me and most importantly my dog.Read Less

I was extremely hesitant to bring our puppy here because of the terrible reviews. But today, on a Sunday, we brought our Aussie in for vomiting and diarrhea. He was lethargic, not eating, and not his normal 'puppy self'. We did not pay too much more than we would have at our normal vet, which was nice. The techs were sweet, but I was quite disappointed in the vet. He came in and just started rambling off option after option with my sick dog laying on the floor. I have no idea what the best options are for my puppy, which is why I'm here! I asked him what he would suggest, and again, he listed off all the options (quickly, without explaining what they would do...). Finally the second time I firmly asked him what my best option was, he made a decision as to what we should do. He was rude, cold, and I felt like I was being talked down on. I understand that with an illness like this, it's hard to know what really caused it. I'm sure this vet is talented and smart, but he did a poor job communicating our options and didn't seem to care about the livelihood of our puppy. It definitely made me appreciate our warm, loving vet at North Heights Vet in Appleton. Read Less

Worst experience with a vet office ever. I've never seen a vet clinic in all my years be so slow or so unprofessional. We waited an hour and forty five minutes to get taken back to a room. Then after waiting in a room for 55 more minutes we went to the front desk asking why we hadn't seen any vet yet. They told us there was one dog in front of us and that the vet would see us shortly. We waited another twenty minutes and checked back with the front office, and received the same response. We had at that point been there for over 3 hours! In the meantime my dog was hurt and still had received absolutely no care. There was a gentleman with a beautiful little long haired chihuahua who was bleeding from his rear end who had been waiting two hours in the waiting room before he had been taken back. The place was busy, I'll grant you that, but from what all of us in the waiting room could tell there was only one vet on duty and whomever it was, was extremely slow slow slow. You take your pet to an emergency facility willing and wanting to take care of your family member....we would never tolerate a human medical facility treating a human this way. Why do they think it's acceptable to treat animals this way is beyond our comprehension. If I ever get into trouble with my loved one again and they need medical care, I will drive to Madison where there's a full staff of doctors waiting to take care of my baby, not ignore her in her time of need. This clinic should be ashamed of themselves in my opinion.Read Less

We have had 3 of our dogs treated at FVARC, one on a longer term basis. I cannot say enough positive things about the FVARC staff. The doctors always presented us with treatment options. Both the doctors and the technicians were always available when we had to make emergency phone calls regarding situations and medication adjustments. The dog that was treated on a longer term basis was primarily treated by Dr. Cole. When I was not the one to take Georgie to his routine appointments with Dr. Cole she made sure she called, or emailed, me to give me the update. All of the doctors were aware of Georgie and his many medical issues and worked with us equally as well as Dr. Cole. When Dr. Cole knew something was up with Georgie she always made sure the on duty staff was aware of what was going on. We were treated with respect, made felt comfortable through a difficult time, and were kept up to date on anything that was going on with Harley. They treated him and us as if we were family. I will never forget how one of the vet techs hugged and told me she was going take the best care of my little boy (and she sure did!). Thanks again for everything & saving my baby :) Read Less

We drove 4 hours to the clinic after our sweet kitty got hit by a car. Our local vet referred us and felt he was doing well after staying the night at their facility. My sweet boy laid on my lap curled up looking at me all the way there. We arrived and were so relieved to be there. They took him from me and we waited for the vet in an exam room. He told us his prognosis was not good. We had prepared to pay basically whatever it took so that was not an issue. I got the vibe they thought maybe we couldn't pay...Very cold vet, extremely uncaring. I was heartbroken and 3 years later, still am We made the painful, and wrong, decision to let him go. They didn't give him anything for his pain , he screamed and it was an unimaginable horrific death. I am still mourning. I blame myself for not trusting my gut and blame the vet for being inhumane and dishonest. I am an RN and treat people with a cold with more compassion than he did for my sweet boy. I will never bring any of my animals here I also have a friend who had almost the exact situation with the same vet. She questioned him, got another vet involved and her dog is still alive. HE should NOT be practicing. Yes, 3 years ago. I spoke with the administrator and the vet several times. No resolution and I am done with that conversation but I feel my experience should be heard. Stay away from these vultures . My sister's cat died through the night waiting for a regular vet to open. He might still be alive if they were willing to help him. But they needed thousands of dollars before they'd touch him. Which she didn't have and had no way of getting in the middle of the night. They offered to Euthanize him when she couldn't afford the surgery. Which I've read in other reviews is pretty common for them to do. My sister did the right thing bringing him home trying to give him a chance to make it to the hands of someone willing to help him. She did the right thing by not letting them stick a needle of poison into him and die by the hands of a cold hearted stranger, just to try and squeeze more money out of her. Greed is a normal part of the world, I get it. But I'm really sorry my sister had to experience it first hand with this place. She deserved better and Archer deserved better too! She's been through so much the past 6 months. And things were finally getting better for her. And then he gets sick very suddenly and she stumbles upon this hospital in the middle of the night for help. I wish there would've been somewhere else open. That would've at least tried to help him. That way she wouldn't have to go through the guilt and wondering if she would've had the money right there, would he still be alive? We'll never know. Fox Valley took that option away from her. RIP little guy. You'll be missed by many. Especially your mother. Read Less

Unfortunately, there are not many options when it comes to vascular surgery on pets here in NE Wisconsin.Several years ago, my then-three year old Borzoi lacerated his foot while outside. Long story short, I had to take him to the Referral Center for the surgical repair. In addition to pushing me to pay for services he did not need (Borzoi are NOT a breed prone to bleeding disorders, nor would the bleeding easily stop, since he had lacerated an ARTERY! No, I don't need to pay for a coagulation panel!), they allowed a nearly-90 lb. dog to wake from anesthesia ON THE SURGICAL TABLE! He panicked, threw himself to the floor, and ended up with a cut on the inside of the lip! The staff is DAMN LUCKY he did not cause himself further damage, or they'd have been sued.As it is, I paid well over $1000 for a few sutures. Ridiculous, if you ask me, but I shut up and paid it, because I just wanted my dog back. When I got him home, and removed the bandage on his tail (which was useless and unneeded), I found that they had cut the hair on his tail, too! This was completely unnecessary, because his tail was NOT involved with the injury!I sure hope the staff has improved since then... Read Less

Read Less

And today the wounds opened up again and I called to bring her back in and I was told it was going to cost a few hundred more to repair their mistakes. One of the wounds doesn't even look like they attempted to close it. they just hid there mistakes by wrapping it up in a bandage.

Our German Shepherd ingested antifreeze while we were up north, in the middle of no where. After a terrifying 2 hour drive, this was the only facility that could accommodate him with the antidote. We are beyond thankful for the aggressive treatment he received to save his life. The staff was knowledgeable and kind (especially as I cried my eyes out). After a few days, we are now snuggled up with our healthy pup at home. Thank you!!! Read Less

Dr. Cole and all the staff were there for Georgie and us until there was no more that could be done. And then they were still there for us. In my opinion FVARC is a top notch facility. Thank you for all you have done and continue to do.Read Less

We had an emergency with our black lab Harley about 3 months ago. Harley ended up having to have emergency GDV surgery to repair his twisted stomach. I cannot express how thankful and impressed we are with the professionalism of this place.

Read Less
