I took my puppy here this morning for diarrhea and vomiting. She was still playful and in a good mood, but she is very tiny so I was worried about her being dehydrated. We were here about 2 hours, and it was fairly busy here. I didn’t mind waiting though because the triage person came to our room very quickly, and I felt the longer we waited, it was because someone else had a pet that was more ill than mine. I was allowed to be in the room with my dog during her exam, but opted to leave when they gave her the shots, since I can’t bear to watch anyone poke my puppy. The doctor was very nice and answered all my questions. All of the staff here was very nice. As I was walking my pup to go potty, I saw a dog being rushed in with a ball stuck in his throat. The staff jumped up when they saw the car pull up, and whisked the pup off immediately. I felt terrible for the owner and the dog. I was so relieved when we left to see the beautiful pup sitting in the waiting room with a big smile on his face, and a very relieved looking owner. I clearly wasn’t the only one that had a good experience here today. Yes, it was expensive, but you are paying for emergency care and that unfortunately doesn’t come cheap. My cost for the visit which included 2 shots to prevent the vomiting and dehydration, 2 cans of special food, and probiotics to bring home was approx. $240.00. I would take my pup back here again based on today’s visit. I felt like the whole staff really cared about her. Read Less

Our 18 year old cat Charlie recently took a turn for the worse on a weekend so out of necessity we called the Animal Referral Center (as recommended by our wonderful veterinarian Dr. Barker). The kitty was seen immediately and made comfortable. No complaints at all about his care - we were able to take him home with the understanding that his time was likely very short. Three weeks later - on a weekend again, our old boy got noticeably unhappy and we knew right away we had to let him go. Dr. Peters and Sydney were wonderful - caring and compassionate and we truly felt they cared about us and more importantly about the kitty. Charlie passed very peacefully in my arms. Emergency pet care is never going to be inexpensive - between the two visits we paid $900 but our old boy Charlie meant the world to us and we didn't hesitate. Thanks to everyone involved in his excellent care. Read Less

Absolutely terrible. Pre arranged to have our dog monitored overnight. Waited with a 7 month old baby an hour and half with no guarantee on when the vet would come to talk to us. We were not allowed to leave and they would not start any treatment until after the vet talked to us. I asked if it was going to be 1 more hour or 3...the receptionist couldn't tell me. When I told them I needed to get her treatment right away, they propmtly dragged our dog out the back room ( after she was carried in on a Gurnee because of surgery a few hours prior and gave her back). Absolutely terrible people and a terrible experience without compassion. Read Less

We had an after hours weekend emergency with our friends dog and we have only lived here 6months. We were able to go here quickly and they were able to patch her up!The one thing that was frustrating was that we forgot our debit card at home and one of us had to stay with the dog and we had our toddler there and it was getting pretty late. Came in about 7PM last night with my 8 year old female husky (Luna). The parking lot was close enough to the building that is was easy to carry her in. She has a partial torn ACL. The staff was kind to us and her as they took her away for evaluation. We had to fill out paperwork stating our contact information and promising to pay at the time of service. We were taken back to a examination room and they explained what they were going to do to her. They then checked in with an update and treatment options. The bathrooms are nice and clean. Staff super friendly. For an emergency visit including the cost of the medication it was reasonable at $189. We were in and out within an hour. I highly recommend them if your local vet is closed and you have an emergency. They will walk you through what to do if you call before hand which was also helpful in making our minds up on taking her in. My dog came down with a horrible case of bloody diarrhea and even some bloody vomiting late Saturday evening. I initially was hesitant, have a great relationship with my vet and considered trying to wait until Monday. Things got worse with my dog and I couldn't wait any longer and brought her here Saturday morning around 4 am. She ended up having gastroenteritis (HGE) and was admitted to the hospital early Sunday morning. Over her 24 hour stay she was treated extremely well and all of the things she needed she got. We worked with 3 different Vets through her stay who were all great and took care of her very well. Nursing staff was very caring and friendly as well. They even followed up with my normal vet with all the information from the stay so they were aware of what happened. Yes the cost is probably slightly higher than the regular vet, but that's just the reality of taking a pet to an emergency center during off hours. After going through it and my experience I would not hesitate to bring my dog here if needed in a time when I could not see my regular vet. Bringing her here may have saved her life. We had an eight month old kitty who was obviously very, very sick. She was the size of a four or five month old and began having trouble with eating and balance. When we knew it was time to bring her in, it was 4am on the weekend, so this was the closest establishment open. The vet personally came out and informed us that fluid was filling her lungs. It seemed like she wanted to lead us to realize that our kitten was dying, but wouldn't quite say it outright herself until we asked. I'm sure it's really hard to tell families something so delicate, but we would've preferred a somewhat more direct approach, I think. In any case, they were very kind and helpful and even set our baby up to be more comfortable so she could last a little while longer to say goodbye, for which we were very grateful. The one-star comments are truthful saying it's an expensive visit that must be paid on-site, which did ultimately cost a star to us, but that is not the fault of any onsite staff and they should not be blamed. In summary, if you do have emergency funds for your pets (which you absolutely should-- if you don't, DON'T HAVE PETS) and think your loved one may be in pain and passing away, I would recommend this referral center to help them and you through it. The ballpark is $300-400 all said and done to have them put your pet down, depending on the reason why, but they try to make it as painless of a process as possible. I would also recommend their staff if you have medical non-emergency or questionable emergency concerns. The receptionists are very knowledgeable and have helped us through a few situations where we luckily didn't need to bring anyone in! Read Less

I'm only giving it 1 star because I cant give it a Zero. My Yorkie was sick. Throwing up everything she ate including the water she drank. She was shivering and lethargic. I felt so sorry for her and scared of losing her. This was on a weekend,. Had no money at all at the time but I had CareCredit. I received it in May 16th/2016 and I never used it. They did her blood work and x-rays. She was diagnosed with kidney failure. There was more test that could be done to find the cause. I told them to use my CareCredit. The receptionist came back and told me my account was closed. I was shocked! I had no other way of paying the bill. She kept telling us we needed to pay the bill before we leave. Made us phone family and friends, reapply for CareCredit right there...Couldn't come up with it. Still telling us we needed to pay for it before we could leave. I felt like a hostage...They wanted the money before we could leave. Then stated their going to take us to small claim court and they will do it the next day which was on a Monday. Gave us no other options to resolve the issue. They wanted money!! No compassion what so ever. No understanding at all. My baby was sick..now I have to go to court. They wouldn't listen...Couldn't wait a week for us to get the money. I wish I never went there. I feel worse now then I did before I went there. Then I find out from other pet owners they paid l half as much for the same services I got. It's all about money for them, nothing else!! Checked my CareCredit accout when I got home.
