0 stars! I've had mixed emotions about posting this, but this needs to be shared and anyone near Mt. Horeb and Blue Mounds needs to be made aware of this due to the awful circumstances....and NEGLIGENCE! We kenneled our dog for 15 nights at Starlight Veterinary Clinic in and picked him up on Thursday at around 3 pm. We then ran errands and arrived home. Our dog was pretty slow moving but found his way up on the couch. As I started to pet him I noticed a very large gouge out of the side of him. The gouge appeared about 1/4-1/2 inch deep and was about 1 inch long. The wound was dry and crusted, it appeared like an old wound. I immediately called Starlight and left them a voicemail letting them know what occurred and I wanted to know why I was never notified. I also wanted to know if they provided any wound care. I got a return phone call from them the next morning basically just apologizing but no explanation of what happened or acknowledgement of them even seeing the wound. I was never notified of this attack! I did sign a waiver stating that they watch the dogs closely but that they aren't responsible for any injuries such as cuts, scratches and sprains. But, what upsets me most is that although they aren't responsible (I still believe they are since they never "closely watched" my dog), they NEVER called me to see how I wanted to proceed with his care/management of this wound. I understand that dogs play rough and that my dog may come home with some scratches/scabs. I've had enough large dogs and labs to know a dog's behavior. But, this was a very deep wound and our dog is one to yelp/vocalize if he's in pain and there should have been a substantial amount of blood in the snow for them to know something was amiss. Yet, they keep denying anyone saw anything! And believe me it's hard to miss, especially if you are giving him any amount of attention! So, we took our dog to our veterinary clinic. The doctor stated the wound looked about 2-3 days old and was infected. The wound had to be cleaned and debrided. Our dog is now on pain medication, antibiotics and an anti-septic spray. He probably should have received stitches but since the stages of healing we're trying to take action the wound could no longer be stitched. And the most HORRIBLE thing about this is that the vet told us that if the bite wound had been a touch deeper our dog would have had internal damage. Our vet emailed us everything she assessed, pictures and the treatments she completed. I sent this over to Starlight yesterday and now received an email this morning now saying they reviewed their camera footage and they now deny that the injury even occurred on their premises. These people are liars and clearly cannot provide adequate care for animals. In all of our dog's 3 years of dog daycare nothing like this has ever happened to him! These people have absolutely no accountability! It's frightening to know my dog could have been nearly killed under their "watch" and no one would have even noticed! But, apparently my dog came home with a 3 day old injury that didnt happen on their premises ‍ I guess a big invisible dog must have jumped in our car on the highway and bit him without us noticing and then the wound became extremely hard and crusted...let's not forget infected..on our 45 minute drive home! These people are the worst! Read Less

"Dedicated, Compassionate, Ethical, Medical Care for your Cherished Companions" This is on the Starlight Vet. Clinic website under "About Us." I can't post a better review than that, because this is absolutely what you can expect at SVC. If you trust Dr. Elmer with your pet you will forever be measuring veterinary care by the high standard she sets. Straight-forward but kind, letting you know exactly what's going on without overwhelming you, never trying to oversell or get more from you than what your pet needs. Read Less

We went here on an emergency for our dog. It was Christmas Eve, he slipped on ice/snow while playing catch and running for a ball. He had a bad spill and couldn't move his lower legs. I was panicking and was calling all over the place (our current vet 50 minutes away, emergency vets in Madison). Again, it was Christmas Eve. She answered the phone right away and told us to come right in. All I can say is that Dr. Elmer was great. She was very compassionate, very reassuring. Our dog had ended up "throwing out his back." Her advice for his care was spot on and he has made a full recovery. Now that we live out this way I am going to move all of my pet care to her.Read Less

My dog somehow managed to chew through an extension cord in my house and electrocuted himself. I was honestly terrified. A shower of sparks erupted as I quickly tore the live wire from the animal's mouth. The dog had a violent seizure and was foaming at the mouth. In a fit of panic quickly googled vets in the surrounding area. I came across Dr. Jean Elmer at the Starlight Veterinary Clinic and called her emergency number. It was a Sunday night and right in the middle of a classic Wisconsin blizzard. She said she would leave right now and that I could meet her at her clinic. Dr. Jean Elmer not only dropped everything (it was during a Packer game ) to meet me at her clinic during a non-work day, but arranged to have her entire parking lot and street plowed so I could bring the dog to the clinic. How many people do you know that would be willing to do that for a new patient that she had never even met? The experience in her clinic was just as impressive. She monitored my pup for over an hour, checked all his vitals, and prescribed the appropriate meds and homecare instructions. Her personality and obvious passion for her job radiates in everything she does. She even explained that if she was truly worried about complications of my dog she would be willing to keep the dog overnight. I know price isn't everything, but it is an important issue when it comes to deciding what type of treatment is appropriate for your animal. We all love our animals, but the price of animal health care can restrict treatment options. I can happily report that for her services, the price I had in my mind came in under what I was expecting and know for a fact would cost much more in other madison-area vet clinics. Dr. Jean Elmer is a dedicated passionate professional, who operates a beautiful new clinic in the blue mounds area, and my experience with her was so pleasant I'll be bringing the rest of my animals for regular pet care in the future.Read Less
