Deer Grove Veterinary Clinic

Cottage Grove, Wisconsin
General Info
Our Cottage Grove veterinary hospital is devoted to your pet’s well being.
Deer Grove Veterinary Clinics began serving the Cottage Grove, Deerfield and greater Madison, Wisconsin area more than 40 years ago.
Our first office was established in 1968 in Deerfield, Wisconsin. In 1987, just shy of 20 years at the original location, we realized we had grown so much that an additional office in Cottage Grove was necessary. In 1995 we moved to our current location on Southing Grange in Cottage Grove and have been thrilled to call this office home for almost 20 years.
With our long history in the region we’ve become more than just a business operating in the area; we are a part of the community, establishing lifelong relationships as we go. We put our clients and their pet’s needs at the top of our priority list and dedicate our professional careers to bringing them the best veterinary treatment possible with cutting edge technology and a caring touch. Everyone who comes through our doors is treated with respect, courtesy and compassion; whether they come in on two legs or four.
While many veterinary clinics handle routine annual veterinary examinations and vaccines, we believe that a pet’s health encompasses so much more. This is the basis behind the success of our practice; we are there for the life of your pet, no matter what health concerns come their way.
We are thrilled to have four doctors of veterinary medicine on staff, meaning we have more than fifty years of experience in veterinary care. Each one of our staff vets brings a unique personality to the practice and rounds out the entire experience for clients and pets alike.
Contact us if you’d like to schedule an appointment for your pet, whether you’re looking to establish routine care or if your pet needs a more in depth examination. We’re truly happy to help.

If you are looking for kind, understanding, caring staff and vets, This is the place to go. Our regular vet was not able to get our Lola (Shepard, Husky, Border Collie, Mut) in because she had been vomiting. Deer Grove was able to get her in the next day. In the 3 weeks we were there, Lola saw all three of there vets. They all fell in love with her because she really was such a sweet dog. After a ultrasound determined it was cancer, we put our 14 year old family member to sleep. The kindness that their staff and vets showed us was outstanding. When we chose to get a new dog, Deer Grove will be their vet. Read Less

I was reminded once again today why we have been customers for 18 years. I needed to get our big dog "Chance" in to be seen as we noticed over the past few days that his face has began to droop on one side. Alarming of course. I did my usual research on the web to see all possible causes after I made an appointment to have him seen. Dr. Frame "my favorite" discussed his experience with such things, as well as worse case scenario. Then he zeroed in on what we was most important to address at this moment. His calm and patient manner and explanations regarding what was happening, how my dog may be feeling is amazing. Their staff is always wonderful of course as well. Read Less

We have been taking our pet's there for the past 18 years and Dr. Frame has been our Vet of choice there. Our current dog is a rescue and a bit of a pickle when it comes to his interaction with other dogs "he loves them a bit too much". So when ever we visit he waits in the car until a room is open an we go right in, as they understand his enthusiasm. Dr. Fame always assures me "Chance" is a good dog. With out question, he is just a little enthusiastic to say the least. But, I have seen posts regarding cost, I want to tell you all it's going to cost you where ever you go and yes Vet's have to make money as well. But what I have found over the years is that they make suggestions regarding additional services but Dr. Frame has always been frank about what really needs to be done and what is considered optional. I like this quality about him and we ask for him each time we come in. I would always recommend this location and Dr. Frame. Read Less

My family is far from pleased with the professionalism, courtesy, and compassion shown by Deer Grove Vet. We have been taking our two dogs here for 5+ years. One of our dogs passed away in December. She was suffering from Cushing's Disease and Diabetes. It took us having to take her to the Emergency Vet to figure this out. I took her to Deer Grove Vet a few months prior, explained my concerns, and we were sent home being told that she is probably just overweight. My dog had all the signs of Cushing's Disease and Diabetes yet they never looked into it. After she passed, we never received any condolences from the vet. A simple call or card of acknowledgement would have sufficed. It took me calling the vet to ensure they received the paperwork of her Emergency visit and that she had passed. I received a response of 'yes, it's marked in the computer that way'. Nothing else. My family is very disheartened by the lack of professional ability to recognize and treat a sick dog as well as the lack of compassion shown by Deer Grove Vet.Read Less

I dread the day I move too far away to come here with my animals. We were originally going elsewhere (I can't remember the name of the old place) with my cat and it was always a traumatic experience for him. He hates leaving the house and they were always tough with him. When we came here for the first time, the vet gave him a quick check over to make sure he was in good health and let him go sulk under the desk. She would have put him back in his crate, but the assistant was cleaning it for us because he had peed on the drive over! We were so happy about that detail, as any cat owner will tell you cat pee is not fun to clean up. She told us about the rabies shots he had been getting - one for every 2 years - and how there was a slightly less effective (but in the case of an indoor cat, much more practical) 6 year shot. This means only dragging the poor guy out of his spot on the couch once every 6 years. Yes please! She asks about him every time we go in with the dog, which is heartwarming that she remembers the cat she hasn't even seen in years and still cares about how he's doing.Everyone who works there recognizes our dog as soon as he comes in. He loves it there (until he remembers that he gets needled almost every time) and he's always excited to see the people. The vet is one of his favorite people in his life. They've recommended other vets for my small animals when needed, which is a wonderful service. They also are always willing to help us over the phone during an emergency, even for animals they don't see in their practice! They talked me through my rabbit's seizure, my dog's incident with the chocolate sheet cake, they even answer my mom's questions about the aging feline. They're always helpful, always quick with service, and always happy to see you. I love this clinic, and I'd drive across town just to go here. Read Less

My beloved Onyx went to the Rainbow Bridge at the end of February, but I have to say that everyone at Deer Grove, as always, went above and beyond what anyone could possibly expect in order to help make the loss as soft as it could be. I will never have another Onyx and I will treasure the 15 years that I shared with him. Luckily, I do not have any regrets. I know that the caring team at Deer Grove did all they could to save him. Unfortunately, no matter what we could do, in the end his quality of life and pain were too much to bear and I had to make the hardest choice a pet parent can ever do....to give them the gift of freedom. I had taken my Furbaby, my Onyx (who was an amazing Maine Coon/Ragdoll combo) to see Erin over the past years. Not once was there not immense care and concern shown, for both my kitty and for my well being. I have never been to another veterinary clinic such as you will find here. Erin and all of the team at Deer Grove are very skilled and yet make you feel like you are with family while you are there. I could go on and on about the love and commitment they have for their furry patients, as well as for their concerned fur-parents. During the last few months of my Onyx's life, the staff and Erin, went to great lengths, including staying open late, moving around schedules in order to fit Onyx in, and to calling back to check on Onyx and I after some extremely hard and emotionally painful visits. I truly could not thank them enough for all of the effort they put into helping us in our time of need. Erin even came out to my home to help make putting Onyx to sleep, less stressful and more peaceful for Onyx and I. That day, though heartbreaking and devastating, was soothed by her deep compassion and care for Onyx and I, the exact same and more so even, that she had always shown us over the years. That is exactly the reason why I brought my new kitten, Ariana, to meet Erin and the team at Deer Grove earlier this week. I could not imagine anyone else providing care for my new furbaby but them! I would recommend Deer Grove to any pet parent who is looking for skill and compassion rolled into one. This is the place!Read Less

For a decade, we have driven forty minutes from home to vet out of appreciation for their remarkable service and ethics.Read Less

Read Less

I used to go with my mother to the pet appointments. I even took my pet there years ago, before moving. We use to have such wonderful customer service... From the veterinarians and vet techs but the front desk people are lack the understanding of how to be polite. It was something my mother would always say it was worth dealing with because dr frame was so amazing and made up for it with his customers interactions. The amazing customer interaction with him has since changed. Too bad. If your looking for a place to take your animals, they are good at taking care of them. However they have recently changed from helping owners learn how to take care of their pets to taking money from you anyway they can. Read Less

Was happy with service until I got the bill. They charged me $70 for a pre anesthesia blood test simply because i requested a quote for a dental cleaning, which was an outrageous $450 minimum. They did not clearly layout all costs for services before doing them. It was my first visit and i will not be returning. Use caution and get quotes before letting them do anything. I feel taken advantage of.
