I took in two stray kittens that were badly undernourished and I wanted to get them checked out today, as they were pretty sick. The only option as far as I knew, in Elkhorn, was this clinic. I called in advance to check on their prices and planned to get them vaccinated for about $55 each - which was fine for me. I took them there and a woman did an exam, then the doctor entered for just 2-3 minutes and he told me the sex of the kittens and that they had ear mites (which I knew).
As I left, I was given a bill for $250!!! I was there for probably less than 20 minutes total - and the doctor charged me $51.50 per kitten that he "examined." With him being in the room for just over 2 minutes, I practically paid him $50 per Minute of his time! That is way more expensive than for me to see a doctor, as a human.
When I left, I was pretty upset about it all - considering the $250 did not even include the vaccinations. I was told to come back for them - probably for a series of other charges to be tacked on.
I also saw that the doctor charged me an extra $20 for telling me that my cat had ear mites - which I already knew. They said he did an exam, which I was not aware of somehow. Plus, come to think of it, I didn't ask him to do a special ear cytology exam - without telling me and informing me of the charges in advance. If the doc had spent a good deal of time examining them, I suppose I'd understand the outrageous charges - but with just a few moments of his time - it's just ridiculous.
After I left the clinic, I called there to ask about the charges and to explain my feelings on it. I also told them to throw away my files as I'd find another place to go to. I was just trying to care for the strays, who would have most likely died. I was in and out so quickly, with a $250 bill - it just isn't right.
If you are thinking of going to Elkhorn Veterinary Clinic, you may want to think twice. I used to volunteer at a humane society and I know the standard costs - I should have gone to one rather than going to this vet clinic. For me, it is too expensive. On a positive note - the people there were friendly. If you do go there, just be sure to ask many questions and verify every single thing they are doing and they are charging you for - before they do it. Read Less
