Do not bring your pets to Lakeshore unless it's a dire & all other vets are closed.
We brought our family dog to this clinic on a Thursday evening at 5 p.m. in 2016 after our regular vet assessed & referred us here for an emergency CT scan after couple hours of thorough tests at his office. Our former regular vet stated that she felt it was CHF but she didn't have a CT Scan, only x-rays, which cannot 100% confirm...and no vet in the area (Meno. Falls) has a ct scan (later learned to be false), the only place that has one is Lakeshore. It turns out, both clinics are affiliated/connected professionally but non the less, we arrive with our nearly dead dog, suffering from classic symptoms of Congenital Heart Failure (CHF).
Our regular vet called Lakeshore before we arrived to provide her thorough assessment results, and later confirmed to us they told Lakeshore that they referred for a CT scan only and discussion of putting our dog down and they shouldn't have put us through the trauma we endured. Severe belly bloat, bluish tongue generally means end of life.
We asked Lakeshore if they could help us put her down because of her dire condition but the doctor stated that they wouldn't be able to do so without testing her for everything that she clearly wasn't suffering from and re-testing what our regular vet had already tested. It was $1,650 and we had to decide right then and there if we were going to pay up front or our dog could not be seen at all, including not performing a ct scan if all tests were not performed. We were still in the waiting area with this clipboard comprised of medical tests/check list the doctor rapidly put together. Our regular vet later stated again we were sent for only a CT scan, not a full health scan.
Our dog was sent home on 2 heart meds even though I voiced that I didn't think she was healthy enough to make it through the night, one was prescribed in the wrong dose (after calling our regular vet, she informed us it was 2x too weak), we were told to follow-up with a heart surgeon (another $2-$3,000) in Madison (closest option under their care), and bring her back if her symptoms worsen. Well, they were so bad there was no more room for worse. She died 18 hours later on our kitchen floor, never ate again, didn't drink water for days. Her tongue never changed from grey-blue except when they hooked her up to an oxygen machine they said. We were not in the room for her oxygen treatment so we didn't see this but this is what they claim.
Nobody should go here. It may be the only option for some but they are for profit. In my opinion, they don't have the expertise to be caring for any emergency situations. If they did, they wouldn't have sent our dying dog home with us to die after knowing our dog wasn't eating/drinking, bluish tongue, etc. And, recommended heart surgery when the only real option was to put her down after her CT scan. Don't let owner say this is unverified. I'm a real former local customer and cannot stand the thought of people's emotions being manipulated into signing contracts for costly unnecessary medical treatment. Other ER vets do not operate like this. Buyer beware.
We are still thinking of filing a small claims but main goal is to voice serious disregard for patient's actual medical emergency in favor of high profits/financial gain. Read Less
