Absolutely disgusted with "Gentle" Vet. We just lost our year and a half old ferret. While they were not responsible for his death, they at worst mislead us to milk us for $1,100! Or at best were extremely inept at doing their job.
We brought Genji in after he showed extreme lethargy that set in within a day, out of nowhere. We feared cancer, as it is fairly common although not in ferrets this young, so we had some hope. The staff at Gentle Vet did a scope and blood work. They took two blood samples because the first one was "sticky", i dont believe that's the proper term but that's what they said. My wife asked about the spleen size, (its a good indicator of lymphoma in ferrets). She was reassured the spleen was ok. They ruled pneumonia and prescribed antibiotics.
So we sit by our guy, with antibiotics for a few days. He's in pain, tired, and getting dehydrated despite us feeding and watering him every three hours (taking shifts in the night even).
He doesn't get better, so we bring him back in.
He's dehydrated, which seemed to be their main concern, not why isnt the antibiotics not working...So they prescribe anti inflammatory.
At the end of the antibiotic regimen he's worse if anything. Barely making it to the litter, unable to make it out. Barely lifting his head to eat. In other words still greatly suffering.
We talk to some in a ferret group and they reccomended Oshkosh animal hospital. We call, they said bring him down, we will see him immediately, we can squeeze him in between bookings. They obtained the scans and tests from gentle vet...
Our new, amazing vet says to my wife with almost a slight eye roll that she has no idea how they could "miss" this. She noted the spleen, and showed my wife, who mentioned the blood work being sticky and our vet said yea, his body is fighting the cancer and his blood is anaemic, it's not a mistake just another sign of cancer, lymphoma to be exact.
The next day we had him put down as there IS NO effective treatment. Our vet even left a surgery to see us and say goodbye to Genji herself.
That's what a vet should be. They should care about their patients and their owners not the bottom number on their invoice. It's disgusting!
Our lil guy had to SUFFER for TWO WEEKS because Gentle Vet wanted to make an easy $1000 bucks off of us.
Never again. Read Less
