Doctor Mike Hotchkiss has been my dog Roscoes vet his whole life. Unfortunately my dog passed away from lung cancer, he had seizures one morning and Mike came running to our house to see what was wrong. He informed me that I would need to take him to the clinic where we found out that the lung cancer was in curable. He was very comforting and gave me ideas as to how to spend my last moments with him. Rather than put him to sleep in the clinic Dr. Mike came to my house and put our dog to sleep in the comfort of his own home surrounded by those who love him the most. I cannot say enough of the care doctor Mike and his staff has done for our 4 legged Family members. We continue to see him and his staff with our other animals as we know they will be well taken care of. From the bottom of my heart THANK YOU. Read Less

Requested an appointment as a new patient for a cat with a suspected blockage. Very courteously treated via phone, even had time of appt bumped forward when I called to report my Reggies worsening symptoms. Upon arrival, the vet working( not the regular vet) insisted we leave immediately to go to the Emergency Vet in Madison. Now, I get it that he was wanting to do the best thing for saving the cat. However, this cat was in great pain and writhing around terribly. Pain meds could have been administered, or SOMETHING could have been done. Or, my other options could have been explained( including euthanasia). We drove the chaotic heavy traffic highway to Madison, with a cat who was bellowing in pain. Ultimately, I made the heartwrenching decision to put our Reggie to sleep, I would have expected such a procedure to be able to be performed in any vet office, and I believe my cat could have at least been drained or given pain meds or both. I had the misfortune of being shuffled to Madison for something that was serious, the vet wasn't the regular therefore didn't feel " equipped" to do the procedure. Very long and hot drive, that didn't have to occur.RIP sweet Reggie. Read Less

After a not so good experience with the east side clinic, I decided to try the west side clinic two years later with a different pet. My first visit at the east side clinic was full of attempts to be pushed into having tests performed on my cat that I knew she didn't need and sending us on our way with just pain medicine as well as a nearly $100 bill. They also had no concern of making another appointment to check on the welfare of my female cat who had blood in her urine. Thankfully we did get her problem taken care of elsewhere. The second (and last) time that I went, we waited 30 minutes to be seen by the veterinarian who then came in, quickly looked at our kitten, and told us he would fill out a prescription for antibiotics to help with her upper respitory infection....all under two minutes. The bill for 45 minutes of our time and two minutes of his was $52. The only positive about this veterinary visit was that they were able to get us in to a next day appointment.Read Less

We moved to Janesville last fall and before arriving all our pets were up to date on vaccinations.  It is fall again, so we needed to find a good veterinarian, for both canine and aviary. Janesville Veterinary Clinic East was able to meet all our needs under one roof.  We have a 5 and a 11 year old golden retriever, a 16 week old puppy and a 28 year old Blue and Gold McCaw.  So yes, we needed a vast array of different services, for young, old and feathery. The first order was updated shots for the dogs.  The staff is very friendly and they talked to our pets, like family, just like we treat them at home which comforted them.  After all, no one likes the Doctors office, right?  Anything to make it less stressful the better.Next step was to provide dental cleaning for our older dog.  We had never had her sedated previously, so we were anxious.  During the procedure, they called us updated us on her status, told us she was doing fine under the Anesthesia, which was very unexpected and thoughtful.  Then the said she required having a tooth pulled, which we already had suspected.  I was stressed out thinking about the pain she would be in when she came home and the dreaded "pill feeding".  She slept most of that day, and the next morning I was happy the medication was chewable and tasty, and it was happy like it never happened. (I suspect the drugs helped)  I like their caring attitude, professionalism, and their guidance on new products and medications.  The medications suggested for our dogs, all chewable/lickable and tasty.  Never has been giving our dogs medication been so easy!!!  They also suggested a new flea/tick medication, also chewable and tasty.  No more hiding pills in hot dogs and hoping they don't figure it out.  I really like this veterinary clinic, probably the best we have had. Your animal's quality of care will depend on the vet visited.  I have had a couple of great appointments with Dr. Mary Baldwin--I brought in a very dehydrated and emaciated kitten which she helped out a lot.  I also had a good visit with Dr. Gillian Ferguson--she was extremely caring and took good care of my cat. However, I would recommend against seeing Dr. William Hicks.  He tends to talk down to people like they are stupid children, and ignores most everything told to him by pet owners.  I took my cat in and he basically spent the whole time chastising me in a very demeaning manner because she wasn't current with her rabies shot.  Now, I am aware that there is a risk involved, but she is strictly an indoors cat who has absolutely no contact with the outside world, and has had very bad reactions to rabies shots in the past.  He also gave me a $400 estimate for teeth cleaning, and other mouth care.  And he completely ignored me when I asked him several times about 2  other issues she was having.  However, when I got fed up with this treatment and took her to another vet, they said her teeth weren't as bad as he made them out to be, and no serious procedures had to be done.I had previously taken in my male cat, who had a urinary blockage, and afterwards, I was told by Dr. Hicks that he would have to eat a very specific (expensive) food for the rest of his life, and I could only get it at Jnsvl Vet Clinic.  Of course, after asking my new vet about it, she said there were a few different routes we could take. And then there is the matter of the vet assistants, who answer the phone and can determine whether or not you "need" an appointment to come in based on the very limited amount of knowledge they have.  In our case, my cat had to suffer for 2 extra days because they decided he didn't actually have the problem I was insisting he had.  As it turns out, I was right, and they were wrong.  So much for that 2 years in vet assistant school, I guess.I realize that all vets are different, but there is a very obvious difference between vets that truly care for animals, and vets who just want to make money.  I think Janesville Vet Clinic leans towards the latter.
