Its a cute place and my experiences there were good, but definitely rushed and not thorough exams. My cat was taken there when I got him as a kitten at 12 weeks and twice again for a few vaccinations and general checkups. The vet continued to tell me that my cats teeth were good/healthy. After seeing some reviews on here I got a little worried and I took my cat to a different vet in Madison. Immediately during the exam the vet noticed that my cat had an abnormal amount of tartar of his teeth for his age and gum inflammation. He went under anesthesia for a full cleaning and x-rays and it turns out he has "enamel hypoplasia" - meaning his enamel is rough and was improperly formed as a kitten. I am really lucky to have caught this early on as it can lead to the teeth pulps actually dying. Basically, if I had never switched vets I don't think I would know this valuable information about my kitty and I am really glad I did.

I give a 3 star rating in that it was not my best vet experience ever, but i would still say this is a reputable place to take your pet to.
My kitty was overdue for a vet appointment. I brought him to Petinary because it was close, convenient and they had an opening for the day i needed. The place is cute, lots of plants, birds in cages and also a dog laying under the reception desk. It almost seemed out of a movie or cartoon. The receptionist is super friendly and clearly loves to meet your furry family members.
However, i was not told there would be five people in the room with my cat, the vet and myself. This really spooked my cat. He somewhat felt ambushed. He did not do well at his appointment and my cats temperament is generally very calm. The vet is very knowledgeable, i felt respected and my price for a checkup and rabies shot total was $65. This is very fair for Madison pricing.
I will be coming back in October for an additional shot for my cat, but i will ask that there is not so many people around. I would suggest you also do the same if you think this would spook your animal. I ended up with the worst scratch i had ever received from my cat in 6 years of having him while holding him during them giving the vaccine.

Other than the phenomenal interactions between the staff (Michelle is a HOOT!) Dr. Kohn gives quick, simple to understand and honest advice. I have taken my cat (Cesar) in for his vaccinations and neutering, all of which went amazingly. I am also hugely grateful that Petinary accepts CareCredit, its a godsend for sure. Overall, I would recommend them to anyone and I look forward to continued (as needed) visits with them.

We took our cat, Oliver, in for a regular check-up. He was eating less and seemed more tired than usual. At the time, he was 13 years old and had been visiting the Petinary for ~2 years. Our vet said (paraphrasing) "Your cat is old and is going to die soon. I don't have an appointment after yours, so I can put him down now if you like". This was shocking. We came in for a routine checkup! We immediately switched to Cat Care Clinic (a bit more of a drive/more expensive). They provided a better idea of what was wrong with Oliver, and helped him live out his remaining 2 months in comfort. They even did a house call when we decided to let him go (Oliver hated car rides). For routine care, Petinary is fine. For anything more serious than a vaccination, I'd suggest Middleton Vet Hospital (super reasonable prices, outstanding staff, can handle everything from vaccinations to surgery) or Cat Care Clinic (just for cats, a bit pricey).

Took my cat in because he had a uti. This guy insisted that I buy $60 cat food and would not prescribe what my cat needs, which is an antibiotic. I asked him twice for antibiotics, he refused. He told me to go next door to buy this special cat food (by the way, was preventative food, this will not get rid of a uti.) Turns out he owns the store next door, not saying anything bad about the store though, they are very helpful there and have pet supplies that other stores don't carry. Now I have to set up an appointment with another vet to get the antibiotics I needed in the first place. In the meantime my cat is pissing everywhere.

There is also a pet store right next door if you need anything, which the veterinarian recommends (though I have not visited there yet). 5/5!

Switching Veterinarians. This one doesn't care about cats. I've been asking him to examine and diagnose one of my cats for months because he was losing significant weight. And then when my kitty became obviously Ill, this Veterinarian wouldn't even give him fluids! Our helpless kitty was in the emergency room all weekend and passed away of cancer. Dr mike should of taken the time to look into this scenario months ago!
Last fall, he wouldn't see another of my kitties after she had a ruptured anal gland. The next day, she had another ruptured anal gland--a very, very painful experience that could of been prevented.
Run far away from this Veterinarian!!

Upon meeting Dr. Mike for the first time there was an immediate recognition that he only wants the best for his animal friends. We wouldn't think of going anywhere else.

Great Veterinarian! I really loved going to the Petinary. Everyone there always remembers me and my dog even though we did not need to go there often and when there was something they were not able to do there they gave great recommendations for specialists. There was something wrong with my dogs eyes and they referred me to the UW Vet School. All around it was an awesome experience. Thank you

Definitely 4 Stars!This is a small and not modern veterinary clinic. The staff is super friendly and there are 2 kittys and one puppy running around waiting to greet you. The doctor is old school, no non-sense type veterinary. Gets to the point across and tries to avoid dosing pets if at all possible. He's a true pet lover and the staff genuinely cares.

I have done a lot of research here in Madison for a small veterinary clinic. My dog is very scetchy and affraid of everything. On the day of our appointment the staff opened the door and greeted us like we were special. There was no wait and the visit was about 15 minutes long. Dr Kohn is a very calm man and answered all the questions we had for our dog. Since my dog is very scetchy around people she was actually really good with Dr Kohn. We were so happy with the staff, Dr Kohn and the service that we will definitely go back for all our pet needs.

Took my cat in because he had a uti. This guy insisted that I buy $60 cat food and would not prescribe what my cat needs, which is an antibiotic. I asked him twice for antibiotics, he refused. He told me to go next door to buy this special cat food (by the way, was preventative food, this will not get rid of a uti.) Turns out he owns the store next door, not saying anything bad about the store though, they are very helpful there and have pet supplies that other stores don't carry. Now I have to set up an appointment with another vet to get the antibiotics I needed in the first place. In the meantime my cat is pissing everywhere.

Very good experience with both of my kittens, everyone was very friendly and have a genuine love for animals. I will definitely be using them for all of my pet needs. There is also a pet store right next door if you need anything, which the veterinarian recommends (though I have not visited there yet). 5/5!

My dog Bella will not let me or anybody trim her nails. The whole staff helped and was a pleasant experience. Very caring staff. Very reasonable price. We will be regulars for nail trims. - Donella

Switching Veterinarians. This one doesn't care about cats. I've been asking him to examine and diagnose one of my cats for months because he was losing significant weight. And then when my kitty became obviously Ill, this Veterinarian wouldn't even give him fluids! Our helpless kitty was in the emergency room all weekend and passed away of cancer. Dr mike should of taken the time to look into this scenario months ago!
Last fall, he wouldn't see another of my kitties after she had a ruptured anal gland. The next day, she had another ruptured anal gland--a very, very painful experience that could of been prevented.
Run far away from this Veterinarian!!

Upon meeting Dr. Mike for the first time there was an immediate recognition that he only wants the best for his animal friends. We wouldn't think of going anywhere else.

Great Veterinarian! I really loved going to the Petinary. Everyone there always remembers me and my dog even though we did not need to go there often and when there was something they were not able to do there they gave great recommendations for specialists. There was something wrong with my dogs eyes and they referred me to the UW Vet School. All around it was an awesome experience. Thank you

Definitely 4 Stars!This is a small and not modern veterinary clinic. The staff is super friendly and there are 2 kittys and one puppy running around waiting to greet you. The doctor is old school, no non-sense type veterinary. Gets to the point across and tries to avoid dosing pets if at all possible. He's a true pet lover and the staff genuinely cares.

I have done a lot of research here in Madison for a small veterinary clinic. My dog is very scetchy and affraid of everything. On the day of our appointment the staff opened the door and greeted us like we were special. There was no wait and the visit was about 15 minutes long. Dr Kohn is a very calm man and answered all the questions we had for our dog. Since my dog is very scetchy around people she was actually really good with Dr Kohn. We were so happy with the staff, Dr Kohn and the service that we will definitely go back for all our pet needs.
