I am an equine veterinarian and can do the basic routine care for my dog. I have brought my dog to Sauk Point Veterinary Clinic 2 times when he had issues that I couldn't diagnose or treat on my own. We have taken both our dog and cat to Sauk Point Veterinary Clinic and they are always fantastic with both pets. They are on time, responsive, and reasonably priced. Out cat recently passed away, but in the process of dealing with her declining health they were both practical and helpful. She was an older cat, and had a bizarre variety of symptoms, but they were willing to go to great lengths to identify the issues and treat her with every option possible to prolong her life if that is what we wanted. They took the time to talk through lots of options with us, but in the end, we decided to just continue palliative care and through that process they helped us make the best decisions to keep her comfortable and respected our decisions. They never tried to talk us into the most expensive or unnecessary treatments. Most importantly, the vets really seemed to care and understand the tough decisions we were making. They are even good at responding to requests from our pet insurance company. I can't recommend them enough for healthy pets who need regular care and for very sick pets who need tough decisions made. Went here specifically for dog neutering. Usually go to Odyssey in Fitchburg and very happy with their services but their neuter rate was around $500 for a ~30lb. 9 month old dog. Researched area vets for different prices and Sauk Point had the best price with still having great reviews (Spay Me clinic is cheaper, but many reviews about pets dying from routine procedures). Sauk Point was about $200 plus cost of follow-up medication. Great experience with them in terms of their knowledge and ability to do their job. Knocked off a star because the vet we meet with was very judgmental. Once about our dog's fur (saying, "he's getting a haircut soon, right?"). Then they could not handle him enough to look in his ears and were getting frustrated with him even though our normal vet has no issues and doesn't struggle with him. Finally, he is a social dog that loves people, so he was excited to see the vet and vet assistant; we mentioned he has been to 4 training classes, and she responded, "Seriously?!" This vet may know what she is doing surgically, but I don't think she has a great sense of dog development of she can't recognize that all puppies have energy, are excitable, and go through a teenage phase where they listen less. I wouldn't say this is a reason not to go to Sauk Point. Just be prepared to hear judgmental comments on how you care for your pet. Read Less

Vet puts unnecessary charges and tests without asking us even though other options were available. 1. They cultured fecal sample ($50) just to figure out the type of bacteria AFTER already prescribing us the medicine for our dog. I don't need to know what bacteria that was. 2. Vet said that our dog needs to get her blood checked every week for this medicine. Each of their blood test is $100 which they didn't tell us before the test. Result: We didn't pick up the medicine that was prescribed and used ring warm shampoo we already had and the worms are gone now. Just blown $300 to just shampoo my own dog. Read Less

Very affordable and the caretakers and vet were all very nice. I definitely felt that I was getting great care for my two cats. Their email reminders whenever it was time for shots or an annual exam were also really helpful! My poor kitty Preston has been to the vet more than he should have in his first year due to various health issues. I'm glad to have Sauk Point Vet, where I always feel very comfortable bringing him to be seen. The vets (we've worked with Dr. Collins and Dr. Sanftleben) and technicians (we love Amber) at Sauk Point remember Preston and his medical history whenever we talk, which I always find impressive. They're not only professional, but extremely sensitive when having difficult conversations about medical problems. I feel respected and truly listened to when I'm reporting on anything that has happened with Presty. They are great on the phone too, when I'm calling to ask a question about whether I should bring him in for a problem, or anything else.I love that Sauk Point Vet uses Petly medical records, which means that after a visit I can access medical notes from the vet online. This has been really helpful when I felt overwhelmed taking in a lot of info, and can conveniently check the website to remember what meds or other steps I need to take. I also appreciate the email reminders of visits scheduled. I am so happy that I found a place like this to take Preston. I think it's a great sign that he likes them too! Read Less

This clinic has provided care for our dogs for the last 2 years. All the veterinarians have had occasion to examine our dogs, & we are happy with all of them. We particularly love Dr. Collins, the primary veterinarian for our dogs. When our beloved greyhound, Julie, was dying of cancer last year, Dr. Collins devoted a large amount of time, care & comfort as we dealt with our dog's death. We moved here from Boston last July. We were OBSESSED with our vet in Boston, and were almost 100% sure we'd never find a vet here who cared as much for our dog, or was as good as the vet we had in Boston. We were SO wrong. We've seen Dr. Collins and Dr. Lanphear - both who are incredible, and love our dog almost as much as we do. We are definitely helicopter parents, and they have done an excellent job of letting us know when to worry, and when to relax a little bit. With their advice, our dog has grown out of food allergies, and become so much happier and healthier than we ever thought possible. We have a young (15 months old), VERY active pug, who gets into everything, so we spend a LOT of time at the vet. When we've had emergencies, we've been able to bring him in quickly, and they have treated him with such care. I couldn't imagine going anywhere else. Read Less

I used to have a beautiful loving Samoyed that I took to Dr.Collins for all my veterinary needs.  I took her in to get routine vaccinations while she was just ten months old.  Dr.Collins gave Ivory 3 shots during my visit to Sauk Point veterinary clinic that day.  The morning after my visit, I took Ivory on a walk around town to enjoy the beautiful day.  Within minutes into our walk Ivory began to shake, followed by collapsing.  She was having a seizure.  She past away in my arms within seconds.  I hope nobody has to endure what I did that day. When getting shots for your dog, space them out over the coarse of a week or two, the medicine can be overwhelming for there bodies at times.  I wish Dr.Collins would have done so for me, maybe then I would still have my loving dog, Ivory. I have two senior dogs who make me worry every time they aren't feeling well. Dr. Collins and her staff are always very helpful and do their best to figure out what's going on. They're always available for questions and if there aren't any appointments available when I call and one of the dogs needs to be seen right away, I can drop them off to be checked out in between appointments that day. I know I'm always leaving them in good hands. You can tell Dr Collins is very dedicated to helping her patients as there have been numerous times when she calls me after hours to give me information on what was going on with one of the boys, and she takes the time to answer all of my questions so I understand everything. I did a lot of research on vets in the Madison area before picking one. I picked Sauk Point for its great reviews and also very reasonable prices compared to other places.My cat has met both Dr.Pike and Dr.Collins. She recently had a bladder infection. They were able to fit me in quickly and get her the treatment that she needed. This is my first time owning a pet ever in my life so I sometimes I get overworried if I'm doing the right thing or if something is wrong with my cat. Dr. Collins is so kind and doesn't seem to mind at all talking to me on the phone for 15 mins about my concerns on my cat's poop. haha. Dr.Pike is just as wonderful as Dr.Collins and I am so grateful for them for always addressing my concerns and not making me feel like a crazy pet parent that has too may conerns.Dr.Collins did my cat's spay surgery and she has healed up nicely from that without issue.Thanks Sauk Point Vet. I am so incredibly relieved to have found this vet! My 9-year-old baby has had several issues with her paw over the last few months, so she has seen Dr Pike twice and Dr Collins once. Both were great! Knowledgeable, gentle, really seem to care, and do not try to push unnecessary procedures. And, most amazing thing ever happened today: it seemed like my dog may actually LIKE her vet! At the end of her appointment with Dr Pike, she walked across the office TOWARDS the vet, and parked herself in front of Dr Pike to ask for some love and affection! (which she got :). ) That has NEVER happened. I've had her for 6.5 years, and, despite my great efforts to always find the highest-rated vet in the city, she has always been petrified. Trembles like a little leaf as soon as she steps in, needs to be carried into the vet's office, and spends the entire visit pressed against the door and panting frantically, desperate to make her escape. Here, she quite happily walks in by herself, and, despite being nervous, quickly settles in. She seemed just fine today!, and wandered behind the reception desk afterwards to see if anyone else wanted to say hello :). It is also noteworthy that the place doesn't have that "vet smell", which may be part of what usually freaks my furry baby out. I've also had a good experience with all the vet techs, which is what has ruined some otherwise-good places for us. Read Less

I can't say enough good things about my Vet and the staff at Sauk Point Vet Clinic. Dr. Kristine Collins and her vet techs were so supportive and amazingly kind from the first moment I brought my kitten Silver to them. The kindness and compassion Dr. Collins showed me during his illness, especially his last hours with me, made a horrible situation much better. This week I received a beautiful card with handwritten heartfelt messages along with a ceramic paw print of Silver's sweet little toes. It was so kind and thoughtful and warmed my heart. In January 2015, our dog experienced a tendon injury, and I took him to see Dr. Collins. She not only explained my dog's leg problem to me but reached out to a fellow veterinary surgeon in the area for a second opinion. Furthermore, my dog suffered a big setback in July 2015 when he was bitten twice by a dog that attacked. The first phonecall I made after the attack was to Sauk Point's after-hours line (this happened on a Sunday night). Dr. Collins was very helpful on the phone, and we took our dog to the emergency vet. Part of the skin on his leg had to be surgically removed by the e-vet. The skin removal required daily sterile bandage changes at the vet and a long road ahead with new tissue growth. Due to the daily vet visits, we dealt with all the Sauk Point vets at some point (Dr. Collins, Dr. Pike and Dr. Lanphear), and they performed his bandage changes wonderfully. We got to know the staff and vise versa over the next few months with his leg healing. Throughout his healing process, Dr. Collins was in contact with the emergency vet who performed the surgery to discuss the wound healing. I was so happy and impressed to see her level of communication and teamwork with my dog's condition. Dr. Collins is readily available by phone and email to discuss your pet and answer questions. She also does a great job explaining things during your appointment by drawing pictures on her white board! In my experience, she has not recommended extra or unnecessary testing or procedures. She is very even-keeled in personality and is very professional and serious about her work. As customers of Sauk Point Vet Clinic, we've been extremely happy. With our dog's tendonitis as well as his bite wounds from being attacked, we haven't had a great year! My cats go to see Dr. Amanda Pike here. She is also my traveling vet for one of my cats. Dr Pike is so in-tune with animals on so many levels. I read her bio as I was researching a new vet and I was very pleased with her background with lots of animals. She is an "animal person" not just a vet. My cats love her. I have a cat who is violent with vets. Dr Amanda has been so awesome at trying different things with him. She really understands and is empathetic and takes a LOT of time with animals. I treasure her she is a great Vet and I know I can depend on her opinion the first time and not second guess it because I trust her. The rates for care they charge at the clinic are very affordable and you get a lot of time spent on your animal. I will not be looking for another vet she is it! Read Less

I take my cat to see Dr. Collins, she is always so thorough.  Last summer I brought my cat in for a routine visit, she had some abdominal distension, and I was so impressed that Dr. Collins took the time to write a differential diagnosis on the whiteboard in the exam room (parasites, tumor, overfeeding) and discuss it with me, share what she thought the most likely diagnosis was, and suggest ways to help my cat.  Turned out I was feeding her too much- once I cut down on her food, she lost 2 lbs and is now at her ideal weight.I also appreciate that Dr. Collins is realistic- she doesn't expect busy pet owners to be perfect caregivers.  She recommends real-life solutions for real people who love their pets. She will put your pets well being above anything else and will not recommend unnecessary procedures like some other vets in the area. This by far is the best vet I have ever been to and i have been to a lot! I have had bad experiences at other places with people being rude. I once had an emergency with my dog Smokey and I carried him in and they asked me to come back later because it was their lunch hour. I then rescued an abused german shepherd and took him to a couple vets and he had to be muzzled and they were rough and not slow with him. Sauk point is amazing simply put. It's the only vet my german shepherd likes. Now he's not happy but he's not scared they take their time and never muzzled him even when I offered to. They make him feel very comfortable. Most importantly they showed so much compassion towards my family and I when my dog smokey passed. I had him for 18 years and it meant a lot the care they showed and was even going to come to my house to put him to sleep but he ended up passing on his own in my arms. I highly recommend Sauk Point they are everything a vet should be. I have finally found my forever vet and I can quit changing vets. Thank you all for the wonderful work you do.Read Less
