Reckless revolving door of vets. They do not listen to you, consider your observations --who knows their pet better than you?--or consult your pets history in order to take the time to establish a correct diagnosis and appropriate treatment. In my case, they quickly jumped to conclusions (when there was no emergency) and immediately started a PAINFULL and NEEDLESS treatment which had nothing to do with the actual problem. This was weeks ago, and my pet is still suffering because of their incompetence and impulsiveness. I understand mistakes, but there is NO excuse for snap decisions and unnecessarily aggressive treatment when you don't even have a diagnosis. If you love your pet, run don't walk from this establishment and the affiliated Mayfair Animal Hospital. (And NOW they want to discuss my issue? Why would I discuss when they do not listen?) We had a terrible experience when we brought our 4 year old Calico for a routine checkup about 3 weeks ago. Everything went well, she received 2 vaccinations and everything seemed fine. About 10 days later or so, I noticed a difference in her behavior, she seemed lethargic, feverish and would not eat or drink. Brought her back and was told she was constipated. Vet gave her an enema and we went home. No change, still listless and not doing very well. Took her to the emergency clinic Mayfair animal hospital, where she received a blood test, (negative) fluids, and an antibiotic. Still no noticeable improvement. decided to do do my own research and discovered cats can have a delayed reaction to routine vaccinations especially when given together. Why I wasn't informed of this is beyond me. Thankfully she is almost recovered, (almost a month later) Needless to say I will find another place to take my cat for her routine medical needs. No one should go through this needless expense and heartbreak. I learned the hard way to do my own research before I trust anyone with my pets health. Read Less

While finding a vet you trust with your furkid's lives can be difficult in general, finding one you not only trust, but is incredibly knowledgeable in exotics, is near impossible. I did my research when looking to establish a new vet for my two rabbits, and I couldn't feel luckier to have found Dr. Gordon at Advanced Animal Hospital on Loomis. His passion is not only apparent through his expertise, but also through his patience with both the animal and it's owner. On numerous occasions he has come out to the waiting room to check on my two when we were just in for a nail trim. He takes the time to explain both diagnostic and behavioral concerns, thoroughly answering questions and never making you feel rushed. Messages left with the front desk staff (who are also awesome) are always returned promptly, often directly from Dr. Gordon. Recently, I brought a rabbit I was watching in for a nail trim, and it was determined further care was needed. Dr. Gordon immediately tended to the rabbit, even with a full waiting room. His ability to recognize an animal's urgent needs and do his best to rearrange his schedule to help, reaffirms my belief that my rabbits are in the best hands possible. Read Less

Came in for a small dog bite. The vet did a really poor job closing up the wound. Instead of a straight stitch, removed almost 2sqin and puckered the skin. Anesthesia had dog moaning and wetting herself for better part of 2 days. You are supposed to do no harm, we left worse than we came in!Read Less

The first time ever going to this vet is when our youngest dog was having severe stomach issues. I called our then regular vet and explained to them the severity of the situation and they told me to come in 2 days. I know it was a last minute call but 2 days? I honestly thought my dog didn't have two days left. We called Advanced Animal Hospital and they told me to bring in our dog right away. They were so kind to her and calmed me down and ever since this awesome experience they are now our regular vet. Everyone is so nice, accommodating, knowledgeable, and they take such good care of our 2 dogs!! They even call a few days after a vet visit to check to see how the dogs are doing! Its too bad because the front office staff are very nice. But the actual doctors there that I have experienced are incompetent (because of inexperience?) at best. We've gone a couple of times. One time, the dogs tested positive for worms. That resulted in several follow-up phone calls from the indecisive vet trying to weigh out all of our options, but committed to none. He seemed as perplexed as if the dogs had developed some rare form of cancer. Some of the more straightforward shots and tests, they prefer to take your dog from you and do it out of your sight. The dogs always come back looking shaken. I'm guessing that they are taking them into a back room to let the newbies have a go at the procedure? I let them do a teeth cleaning on one of the dogs and, to this day, I have strong regrets in entrusting my poor dog to them. Not because I am aware of any mistakes and wrong-doing, but because they've been so incompetent regarding all the routine things we've taken the dogs there for, I can't imagine everybody there practicing on my dog. Its not as if we took them to a veterinary college and were expecting trainees to be working on them.  As others have mentioned, its a revolving door for the vets. Incompetent to say the least! Sadly, I took a healthy, happy four year old Therapy dog to this "assembly line butcher shop"  for a routine spay procedure. I was called and told she was fine from one of the office girls, then recieved another call twenty minutes later from a person who identified himself as Dr. Vivek who stated that I would have to come later as Pixiestix was having problems getting up after her blood pressure dropped. When I went to the clinic to get her, I suggested that she might be bleeding internally if there was a blood pressure problem. Dr.Vivek Kalirawana responded by getting very defensive and telling me that" I did not know and everything was fine." They told me to take her home, but did hand me a card with emergency vet info on it. In retrospect,I think they knew there was a problem when they released her, but I was informed after this tragedy that they are not a 24 hour care facility and the emergency facilty I was referred to which is located on the other side of town is owned by them. Approximately six hours later, after driving almost 90 miles an hour on the freeway with a dying pet, friend, and source of happiness and comfort to many people Pixiestix was pronounced dead from internal bleeding. I do not know if these public review sites really reach people but I sincerely hope anyone who sees this will travel as far away from this facility as they can. Please spread the word that they are indeed a business and clearly not aware of the value of pets and therapy animals. I think that they view their "patients" as livestock and handle them accordingly. I am dealing with the shock of all this along with the many other people whose lives were touched by this gentle, happy dog, as I wait to pick her cremains up in a box! My visit was.. Strange and uncomfortable? They had sent me a coupon for a free vet visit and thought it was the perfect opportunity to bring my kitten. He had a little kitty cold and just wanted to have him seen. I didn't think it was weird but the woman up front made me feel weird when I told her what my visit was for. "oookay........" And looked at me like she was confused. It got even more weird when the girl that took me back kept calling my male cat a girl... Even after I looked her in the eye and said clear as day "it's a boy..." She still was calling my cat a girl, kind of annoying. So the Dr comes in and wants to give him a shot for his cold which I was on board with because it was either a 1x shot or me giving him meds at home. He placed his hand on my cat and stuck the needle in him, he got scared and freaked out.. No sh*t. It freaked me out too!!! I thought the needle got stuck in him or something and then he said he'd go get someone to hold him.. You think??? Overall I wasn't impressed. His cold did go away through. Read Less

I was not as happy with the service I got there. I took my 14 year for a check up and the Dr. told me if I did a dental cleaning I could have my chihuahua for a couple of more years,well I was given a quote of $322-346.00 I was okay with that quote,two days before his appt on 4/3/13. I called to confirm his appointment and confirm that everything was set to go,to my surprise the assistant (Sara) was the one to take care of us from the beginning so when I called and spoke to her she didn't find my dog in the computer confirming the appt and I was also given a different quote of $385.00 that blew my away she really didn't have an answer for me and told me she was going to check with billing so she put me on hold and I said why don't you just call me back when you get everything straighten out that was (4/1/13) 4/2/13 no call yet I decided to call myself and when I called I explain that Sara was suppose to call me and never did,well the lady said sorry we were really busy okay so I left her another message because she was with a patient. I called at 1pm and its now 5:30 no call. I don't understand why its been so hard for them to follow thru and to give me a totally different quote was uncalled for I live alone and have a fix income I was making a sacrifice to get my chihuahua dental done. This isn't really a convenient location for me, but this is the vet the basset hound rescue uses and therefore the one I had to use when I fostered (since they were footing the bill).I continue to go there because I like that they see a lot of hounds and are familiar with the problems that the breed is prone to. The support staff ladies are spectacular. They're helpful, friendly and generally make every dealing I have with them enjoyable - whether in the office or on the phone. It's hard to comment on the vets because there's been a bit of a revolving door of them in the past year or two. The main vet is Dr. Dhillon, but I don't see him very often. He's very no-nonsense - don't go see him if you want an emotional assessment or a hug. But he's straightforward and doesn't screw around. I appreciate that he doesn't push me to do optional tests. I have an older dog that I'm basically in maintenance mode with - we're keeping him comfy til his time comes - and Dr. Dhillon isn't judgy or pushing me to do more with him. He's agreed to refill his pain meds and let the poor old guy be. I've had other vets that insist on tests and shots and the whole nine yards for old hounds, so I appreciate that Dr. Dhillon respects our decision to just let the old guy pass his end times in comfort. Of the new vets, I have found that they tend to be the fresh out of school ones that want to run every possible test to rule out all issues so that they can't be accused of missing something. So you have to be willing to tell them no and know how to keep things more reasonable. They often have specials on spay and neuter or new animal checkups. They remind me when its time to bring my hounds in for their yearly and have a new online system where I can check on their vaccinations. The prices are reasonable. It's not really easy to review a vet, but I don't feel like they are trying to push me to spend more money, I think the prices are reasonable, it's easy to get or move an appointment, they have after office hours and I feel like they are knowledgeable in the issues facing my dogs, so I'm on board. I have been taking my cats there for years and they know what they're doing. I trust them with the care of my pets. One flaw is that certain staff can be somewhat condescending. However, they seem to have well trained, caring staff for the most part. A little pricey, but I think the health of your pet is priceless. Read Less

This place is a gold mine for good service and a kind staff. I've been taking my dog here since he was a puppy. I've seen several vets through the years. Last month, I saw Dr. Shimon. He was informative, yet down to earth and recommended a dental for my dog. The price of the dental was reasonable and it included bloodwork. Since the dental, my old dog acts like a puppy. Two years ago, I took my very sick old cat into Advanced Animal Hospital since my regular vet was too busy. Dr. Shimon was very kind. He ran some tests and found that my cat had very bad kidney disease. He told me options for treatment. I made the decision to put my cat to sleep. The doctor and staff gave me support and comfort about my decision. They were so nice! My daughter gave me a kitten a few months ago. I took my kitten in for a checkup. The girls at the desk remembered me and made me feel welcome. The assistant took me in the room and asked me many questions about my little kitty. The tech weighed him, took a temperature, and listened to his heart. Dr. Shimon came and did a real good exam and gave a vaccine. The next day, I actually got a call from Dr. Shimon. He asked me how my kitten was doing and told me Kitty had worms. I picked up some medicine and they explained the treatment. Kitty has been fine and healthy. After 2 visits here, it will be my last. Dr. Shimon was condescending and didn't listen to my concerns. The facility smelled and there was animal hair all over the place. The receptionists were more worried about socializing than scheduling customers. The vet assistants were the only good thing about this place. I used to take my other dog there before he passed on 8 years ago. Dr. Dhillion is an outstanding and caring physician. I take my new puppy there now too and his doctor is fantastic. The staff is great too and unlike other vets i've taken my dogs to, there is no ramming of products down your throat. I would reccomend them to anyone who wants the best in healthcare for their pet. I just got a new puppy and have an 8 year old dog also. I was looking for a better priced doctor than where I was at. I paid only $20 for an exam, nail trim, ear cleaning, a bag of toys, treats, food, and a folder of information. They told me everything sammy was going to need in a week, this was pretty comprable, even a little less than my previous vet. Then I told them that Jimmy, my other dog needed his teeth cleaned, they told me I would have to do an exam on him, and it was just $19.50 cuz he was never there before and as long as he was up-to-date we could do the teeth cleaning. Because of his age I did have to do some extras, like lab work, fluids, and some special anesthethic but they were having a special, I got the teethcleaning at $20 off, a free bath, nailtrim, and ear cleaning!!! I thought this was sooo nice, I really felt like I was given value for my valuable money now that I'm holding on to every dollar more protectively. Just as I thought I was getting a good deal, they gave me a free sample bag of toothpaste, a free toothbrush, rawhide, and some mouth rinse with a 10% off coupon for one of those products. I mean talk about generous, I think that the management and owners at advanced animal hospital really understand what we are going through in these hard times and are trying to do their part in helping out. Advanced Animal Hospital has such a friendly staff and doctors! I know that they have changed a couple of policies (Now when I board my dogs they have to have interceptor and frontline) and there have been a few doctor changes, but I embraced all with an open mind and am still very happy. All of the doctors are very good and competitent and the staff is extreamly helpful and intelligent. I was completely impressed with Advanced Animal Hospital's Doctors and Staff when I recently brought my 14 year old cat into see them. I've been going there for years, but only for shots, Cindy has been very healthy up to this point, but stopped eating and urinating all over. Everyone was soo professional, but yet friendly. I did have a little wait because the animal before me was an emergency, they offered me refreshments and snacks while I waited. After I saw the doctor he had a couple of ideas what could be wrong with Cindy. The gave me a couple of options seeing as I am on a restricted budget. We did lab work wich gave us a better idea of what to focus on. To make a long story short it turned out she had pancreatitis, was treated and is back to her healthy normal self. I know they probably see lots of animal every day, but they made me feel as if Cindy was their number one priority. Read Less

I've been trying to find the best Veterinary Clinic in Milwaukee for a couple of years for my diabetic dog. I finally landed upon Advanced Animal Hospital and found them to be very educated and helpful. They fully discussed the disease and my options with me and while fully educating me I didn't feel pressured to do anything I didn't want to. I have always lived in the Milwaukee area and had a hard time finding a caring reputable veterinary clinic for my pets. Dr. Dhillon has always been very fair with his pricing and taken care of my pets as if they were his own. His staff always willingly answers all my questions with a smile no matter how long it takes. I've been taking my cats and dog to Advanced for the last year and I have to say that I'm very happy with my experiences. The staff is warm and caring, the receptionists always have a smile for you and when I've had a bit of a wait, they are always there to talk with and show such love and attention to my animals. The doctors are wonderful and answer all my questions, regardless of how many I have (and I usually have a lot!). The prices are reasonable (I absolutly believe you get what you pay for) but at the same time, I've had both the doctors and the support staff try find ways to help me save money without cutting down the quality of care. They genuinely care a great deal about your pets and much of the staff there treat them as though they were their own. The clinic is clean, tidy and bright. I took my cat Tiger to Advanced Animal a couple of days ago. He wasn't eating or drinking very well. I love the staff! They always make us feel so special and you can tell that Tiger is very comfortable around them. The doctors are very nice and attentive. They had to keep Tiger in the hospital for tests and observation. The doctor kept me updated on his condition. Tiger's home now and doing very well. I've recommended Advanced Animal Hospital to all my friends and relative, not only for the 5 star service but for the 5 star prices. I would highly recommend Advanced Animal Hospital to everyone.
