I initially brought my adopted cat to the Cat Doctor because the location was convenient....however I have stayed with the Cat Doctor due to their wonderful employees and expertise. Just a few examples of how the staff/doctors go above and beyond: -My cat was refusing to eat or drink the first time I boarded him there (new environment)...the staff gave him an appetite stimulant and IV fluid at NO CHARGE. -They are very cost conscious...I had zero health history for my rescue cat and he was having a number of problems (turns out he is very old!) Instead of guilting me into running "all" the tests (as other vets are known to do), they asked what I felt comfortable doing that day and discussed which test(s) would likely tell us the most. The vet even proposed taking a blood sample and holding onto it for a few days until the first test came back (in the event that we didn't figure anything out, then I could decide if the more expensive blood test was worth it). I was blown away! -One morning my cat became very ill and when I called they said that I could bring him immediately (before I had to go to work), and pick him up in the evening, and the vet would examine him and call me. I appreciated their flexibility and understanding that it could be an urgent issue. -When your cat is brought in due to illness, injury, etc, they call after a few days to check to see how things are going and answer any questions. -"Pictures with Santa" was phenomenal, and everyone was shocked when I told them that my vet was doing it and charging next-to-nothing! Once again, the team at The Cat Doctor not only took care of our 13yr old kitty, Dory, but kept us updated on her health while we were away for 2 weeks. It's never easy to board your kitty, especially when you know she doesn't feel good and has the 'sniffles' . We called every day and Dr. Irving was always available and gave us a complete update on our 'baby'. Everyone at The Cat Doctor gets 5 Stars from us and from our kitty. I took my kitten there about a week or so ago. He's been having eye booger problems along with sneezes. Seemed like he had a little kitty cold. The vet diagnosed him within 2 seconds of walking in the door saying he had a disease that he'd have the rest of his life and 95% of cats from shelters get it. She barely even looked at my cat before saying this. I've gotten all of my cats from shelters and not one has ever had this particular problem. The aid she brought in to help had no idea what she was doing or how to even properly hold my cat. Then to finish it off the vet comes back in to trim his nails and wasn't even able to trim his back claws, which seemed weird that a professional wasn't able to do something that she should be doing everyday. She blamed me for not touching his feet enough, which I actually do all the time. This 5 min trip cost me a ton of money and ever since I brought my cat home he has only gotten worse. Now I have to take him to a place that will actually help him and pay for another vet visit. Which is worth it for my baby to get better, however very frustrating that not he's been sick longer and I have to pay someone else for a problem they should have helped me with in the first place. On top of all that, the paper work I filled out in the beginning didn't even ask any real information about my cat. All they seemed to care about is their social media account and if they would be able to take pictures of him for their Facebook. My sick cat doesn't need his pictures being taken he needs to helped so he feels better. That should be the last of their concerns not one of the first ones. I am just appalled that a place seemed to care more about their social media standing then they do about the actual place itself. I will never come there again. The clinic was also very dirty with flies all over the place, old pee all over the floor and the staff at the front desk was cold and cared more about talking to each other about their social life, then they cared about letting me know what was going on. If I could give it 0 stars I would. Read Less

These people are amazing- we hold them in the highest regards. They are professionals, informed, caring and are always available. We had a very delicate cat with many complicated health issues over the past few years. I would have done anything for him and the people at Cat Doctor really supported me. We have meant to review their place many times but it's hard to put into words how spectacular they are and all that they did. I am so thankful for them because: 1. They gave my little guy such good care- I cannot emphasize this more but I felt like Dr. Christiansen knew so much more than other vets. I spent a good amount of time going from vet to vet a few years back with some uncommon symptoms and she was able to diagnose and get him on the right meds. 2. Kind of obvious and hopefully how every vet is but they were kind and gentle with him. Everyone there seemed very interested in my pets well being. It extended beyond what I'd expect and is difficult to put into words. 3. I was always followed up with changes in meds, was answered when I called with a question, and never felt like I was a burden or annoying-- I should say we were there weekly if not a few times a week for a few months. This was huge and so reassuring-- even in the few times that we had to take him to the emergency vet I always immediately called Dr. Christiansen to get her input and feedback. She would always suggest I bring him in and would then review everything they did and make adjustments as needed. 4. I felt they had a good handle on his situation and gave me the support to keep moving forward and then were direct when he wasn't going to make it much further. I was not judged or given false promises at any point. 5. Every visit, I was never rushed or hurried out the door. I was always able to share my thoughts and concerns and Dr. Christiansen was very receptive despite being busy. 6. Their office site is just amazing- the number of cat memorabilia is amazing. 7. We really felt like they were wonderful people to see- they have the perfect blend of professionalism and friendliness. I definitely felt cared for as a cat mom and knew I was in good hands. My boyfriend who often came with me to visits, which I know is a bit odd but he was obsessed with the cat and really liked the staff, often says how he would just like to go back and say hi. 8. After our little guy was put down they made a donation which still just touches me. This post doesn't totally convey how wonderful I think they are. I am grateful to them and am so happy we have a vet in Milwaukee of this caliber. We have another cat and of course, have taken him to Cat Doctor. Read Less

The staff has gone out of their way to accommodate my crazy schedule, and they have always been professional, considerate, and polite. I've read some of the negative reviews on here, and they seem to be from people who don't understand the logistics of how a veterinarian's office in a busy urban location operates: If I have to wait for my appointment, I'm going to presume it's because an emergency came up for another cat, and I'm happy to wait because I want the same consideration for my kitty should the need arise. If the waiting area smells like urine, I'm going to presume that it's because an old, sick, or scared kitty client peed in the area right before my arrival, and not because the staff doesn't routinely keep the area clean. If the vet suggests expensive treatment options, I'm going to presume she is suggesting what she genuinely thinks is best for my cat, because absent any evidence to the contrary, a vet whose patients do poorly isn't going to stay in business very long. If the vet or staff seem cold or upset, I'm going to presume it's because they are having a bad day, and not because they are unprofessional or incompetent. And let's face it, these people have probably seen and treated so many cases of animal abuse and cruelty and neglect and heartbreak in various other forms that they deserve a medal just for showing up to work day after day. And then having to deal with unreasonable customers on top of it?? Bless, I'm glad they have the strength and the heart for it. I sure couldn't do it. Read Less

I am absolutely floored by my experience to say he least and I haven't even stepped foot in their facility yet - which I never plan on doing due to this experience. I called to ask a few questions and get to know the facility as a whole and what all they can offer and get a good feel for who I would be taking my companion to. My cat is a two year old Lynx Point Siamese, great health and absolutely wonderful but she has issues with peeing outside her litter box. She uses her litter box just fine for her feces, but finds a near by place in the same vicinity as her litter box to pee in. I have taken her to my family vet multiple times for usual check ups and vaccinations, but I am not attending college here in Milwaukee - this being why I called The Cat Doctor. Now, further background on my situation - I am a freshman in college, attending a private school, leaving me with little money to spare, but an enormous heart for my feline. I told the receptionist about the issue I am having and she told me of course that they meet only by appointments. I then asked her what exactly I am looking at for a procedure and cost. She tells me first they will look into whether or not it is a medical issue - this check will cost me around $70+ alone, the tests will typically cost around $48-50 and the medicines to treat may cost around $100-150. I was choked up knowing I cannot afford these costs and reminded her again of my situation and that I have taken her in for these tests which came back negative only two months ago (this urinating issue has been going on for over a year back when I was at home) my real veterinarian (whom my family has been going to for 19+ years and pays a very pretty penny for, might I add) did every test in the book and my feline came out clean as a whistle. When I told her this she snapped back very hostilely "Well, you get what you pay for, but there are a few places on the south side of Milwaukee that may cost less if this is not a cost you're looking to pay". She continued to put me on hold to discuss things with the "head receptionist" six times throughout our conversation, coming back with more costs and more suggestions for the appointments I "need" to schedule which were racking up to at least $300+ in one appointment for procedures and tests which as I stated would not be of any use since she's healthy as can be. The lack of passion, the insensitivity and hostility of this place absolutely astonishes me. I will be sure to never take my feline to people who only want money. I assure you I will pay for good care to be taken of my feline, but with people like this, I will gladly take her elsewhere. Read Less

Dr. Thomas is the best veterinarian I have found in the area. My cats have been going to him for eleven years and he always is honest and I believe always does the right thing. I research a lot about my cats and their needs, what is the healthiest shots to give or not give and he always has the most up to date information before I even say anything. I appreciate that he stopped giving my cats shots at a certain age because it wasn't necessary. He could have insisted they receive them to hike up the bill but he has never done anything of the sort. I have been to many vets and he is the best. He found breast cancer on my one cat when I asked for her to be checked and shaved. Her life expectancy was 6 months to a year. In his care she is still alive and kicking  20 months later. He is so good that when my Rottweiler was falling ill and a couple of other vets had made wrong choices and actually hurt him, I took him to his other clinic where he sees dogs. My dog had bone cancer which is extremely painful. Dr. Thomas was honest with me about my options and his pain level. He didn't run a bunch of unnecessary tests and he told me the real deal. I knew from my own research what was best and kept him on pain meds for a little while. When it was time to say goodbye to my baby, Dr. Thomas and his partner Lori came to our home. It was of course one of the hardest things I ever had to do but he made it easier on us. He said all the things you want to hear when you have to make that choice and my Rottweiler was calm and went in peace. You really cannot ask for more than that. I am moving away now and sad that my pets cannot see Dr. Thomas anymore. I will be lucky to find a vet half as good as him. If you live in the Milwaukee area and are sick of looking for someone to care for your pets the right way, see Dr. Thomas. You can have your dogs go to his other clinic that is not cat care. I cannot say enough about The Cat Doctor. Dr. Christensen and her staff are so compassionate and kind and professional. There is nothing quite like taking your cat to a place that specializes in feline care. There are no dogs to encounter and frighten, and there are people there who will love up on your kitty, talk to your kitty to make him or her as comfortable as possible. Everyone who is there truly loves felines and understands them. I am fairly certain that every staff person is a cat owner, too. I have been a customer pretty much since the start back in 1998. I needed help with my 18 month old cat Oscar who was diagnosed with Diabetes. My previous vet was not supportive of home glucose monitoring and we were having trouble getting Oscar regulated with Insulin. I found Dr Christensen through the Feline Diabetes online forum. She was a Godsend back then. She more than supported home glucose monitoring and had the knowledge and experience with the tricky disease known as Feline Diabetes. Oscar was regulated quickly and lived to be 11 years old and never once had a complication from it. I gave him Insulin twice daily and used PZI -- the Insulin with the best results in cats that I was able to obtain with Dr. C's help. My kitty that I have now -- Feliz who is 16 years old -- has had medical problems too. She is hyperthyroid and it took awhile to get that straightened out. Dr. C has brought her back from the brink of death twice. Once with pancreatitis, and most recently last December with a serious infection and kidney failure. When I brought her in for that, I was a wreck. I didn't know what I should do. Faced with lots of tests, treatment and hospitalization and all of the associated costs I was unsure what to do. I loved my then 15 1/2 year old cat but I had to be realistic. Dr C completely understood how hard this was on me. She recommended a few days of treatment in the hospital ward to try to get the infection under control and then re-evaluate. That was exactly what I needed and turned out to be EXACTLY what Feliz needed. She turned around and is doing well today. Dr. C's experience was invaluable then and is still invaluable today. I cannot imagine taking my cat any place else. Read Less

My cat has kept me up every single night for almost a year with his howling. The last vet wasn't helping and didn't seem to know what to do. So, a friend told me about this place. And I thought, since my last vet didn't seem to know much about cats, this place being specific to only cats MUST be the solution!!One problem here is that you can't take what you're told as solid truth. One blood test turns in to many more blood tests. Even though I had blood tests at the other vet, I need to do more. And when those are done, there's another "kind" or "more detailed" version of another blood test... as the $$$$$ rack up. Also I was told to keep him on meds for 7-10 days. 10 days later I called and was told it needs to be 30 days before I can expect any results. WTH?? There's more:  pricing seemed to change from it'll cost about $50 to getting to the register and being $75 for a single type of blood test. The doctor did knock it back down after I said something about it. The high prices and constant blood test make it difficult to continue to do the right thing for my animal. None of the proposed solutions by the Dr. worked to stop the howling. I still get woken up every night/morning at 3am, 4am 5am 6am. I don't think anyone is really understanding how horrible it is to live this way day after day.I am frustrated and called to ask about next steps after getting thyroid meds as a result of yet another blood test. Which may or may NOT correct the reason I came here: stop the howling!!!It wasn't the doctor who I spoke to, it was someone else - I think her name was Jen. She basically told me that I am killing my cat if I don't bring him in for more blood tests to see how the thyroid medication has effected thyroid blood count. The he will die slowly of starvation. Even though he's been howling for a year. He isn't starving. This was not compassionate and very accusatory to tell me this -- suggesting that I am killing my cat never needed to be said. Very offensive and unprofessional. This person then suggested that they will not fill my prescription if I don't bring him in again. Is this not the doctor's choice? So -- make the cat sicker? That's the answer? I told this girl that I did not like how this conversation was going and that I wanted to end it."Jen" proceeded to tell me that she was going to tell the Doctor how rude I was to her on the phone.  I was flabbergasted that this girl had the audacity to claim that I was the rude one. Ok, little girl -- go and tell on me. Any real professional doctor, would have followed up with their customer to ask what happened and be ready to apologize about the call. This doctor did not.I have NEVER in my life had any place of business speak and act this wayThey are getting me back now by not filling the prescription.Who is "killing" him now?HORRIFIC. Read Less

I adopted a 3 y/o cat from the WI Humane Society and because of the free associated initial vet visit, decided to bring him in for a general exam. The office is lovely, with a super friendly staff cat roaming around and other kitties available for adoption, different pet foods, toys, and reading material. The staff were great and throughout my visits there, I have met 3 different vets who have all treated my cat so kindly and been thoroughly helpful in explanations. I think the key thing here is to always ask questions, re: tests, exams, prices, etc. The initial visit was fine. But the 5 stars really goes for the aftermath. My cat started to exhibit coughing/sneezing/pink eye and me being the new cat owner, freaked out, and called them as soon as the office opened. They  were so kind enough to squeeze me in for a sick visit within the hour. They are also helpful and accommodating towards newbie owners when phoning in to ask random questions. We are in the process of moving and during our last visit, the vet gave us recommendations on vets in our new location. Overall, I have had a very positive experience and would recommend Dr. Christensen and her staff to any cat owner looking for a vet. Read Less

I've been taking my cat to The Cat Doctor since moving to Milwaukee in 2011. Dr. Christian has always been thoughtful and considerate. Im not the type of parent to bring my cats in for any reason other than massive blood loss or obvious illness. About a year ago my cat turned 21 and started getting confused and peeing outside the litter box. The Cat Doctor was more than helpful. They ran some tests, gave me some pills and an explained what I should expect over the next few months.   Last month I had to have Ana (my 21 year old cat) put to sleep. Dr. Christian made a house call and did the service in my living room. She was beyond comforting. I've the past three weeks I have received a card from them, and notice from two different charities that a donation was made my The Cat Doctor in Ana's name. The thoughtfulness of this vet is beyond anything I have ever experienced in my two decades of being a cat companion. I will forget be grateful to them for it all. Read Less

It's hard for me to critique a business that cares so much about animals, especially cats, but I have mixed reviews for the Cat Doctor. Two instances stand out in particular: first, I had a cat with chronic infections and cancer--she was pretty much in palliative care. I brought her in and she had her exam with a new doctor (new to me, at least) who was very combative. We had an argument in the examining room that eventually eased, but I never cared to see that particular vet again. Second, our other cat fell ill so we took him in. The vets recommended a crap ton of expensive tests and then, when the tests came back, told us he had hyperthyroidism. We treated him for about three weeks on this new food and then couldn't afford it anymore (sorry kitty). I grew suspicious of this diagnosis and about 9 months later took him to another vet in Shorewood. They ran the same tests and each one came back clean. There was nothing wrong with his thyroid. It's possible that the food we fed him for a few weeks "cured" the problem, or it's possible the vets at the Cat Doctor were wrong. Either way, it cost us a bundle. We decided to switch vets and have been very happy with their professional, kind, and cost-mindful services. Read Less

This is gonna hurt. Don't tell anyone about this. I have a reputation to maintain!A few years back my longtime, very trustworthy vet closed her practice. My biggest regret is not asking for a referral for another veterinarian, because it took me 3 tries with 3 different offices before I was satisfied with the way my cat was treated. I have a  giant wuss of a siamese cat and he is terrified at the sight of his cat carrier. I really hate to stress him out, so I was ecstatic when I learned that the Cat Doctor makes house calls. Me? I go to the doctor on 12th and Kilbourn. Little dude gets his examinations on the coffee table. Same as it ever was. I've been satisfied with the service provided with examinations and having Doc (the cat) micro chipped and I've been very happy that we've been able to avoid scaring the crap out of him. Read Less

We've been taking our two cats here for nearly five years. We've always been extremely satisfied with the quality of care and service. This year, one of our cats needed a benign tumor removed. Not only was the lump removed for a very modest price, but when our cat required follow-up care (surgical staples to keep the wound closed) they made great effort to fit us into the schedule as quickly as possible. They also performed this care free of charge, which we did not expect.Dr. Christensen is very knowledgeable and has given us lots of practical advice. Dr. Seibert has an extremely calming manner with cats (and people) which is helpful because we have two anxious cats that usually hate going anywhere.Because The Cat Doctor is cat-only, the entire staff is made up of cat people and you can see the vet any day of the week (without regard to whether a dog is in the office). I tend to be an overly-concerned pet owner, and the staff at The Cat Doctor does a great job of letting us know which services are important to our cats' health, and which are unnecessary. Read Less

When I called to set up the appointment, the woman was friendly but very pushy about running all kinds of tests...it was overwhelming! I thought it was a bit much considering I had never even brought my new kitten to this clinic. I feel like this clinic is more concerned with padding their pockets, than caring for our cats.

Read Less

My cat has irritable bowel disease and I spent months and over $1000 trying to figure it out at other cheaper vets. After so much frustration we went to the Cat Doctor. She was diagnosed and given a treatment that worked on our first visit, ending so much stress for our girl and me. They are always helpful and offer advice over the phone during a flair up. We now take all our cats there. It's more costly but the expertise and attention is worth it. I would have spent less money going there first rather than multiple visits elsewhere. Dr. Christensen herself is not only amazingly dedicated and knowledgeable, she made us feel like she truly cares for our pets as we do.Two key points: Dr. Christensen took extra time to speak at great length with us about an issue our other cat is having at home (ie, not part of the services we paid for!) She suggested helpful solutions that had little to do with buying anything from the store.Additionally, we saw on our receipt that they comped us $1.50 for parking without even saying anything! Read Less

Horrible, horrible experience!!A particular person from the staff was so rude and uncompassionate with me that I cannot return here.I am a very frustrated cat owner.

Read Less

Me? Read Less
