I went here because my dog was having multiple issues and her regular Vet could not get her in. The vet barely spent 3 minutes with her, he didn't even take her temperature or really listen when I was trying to explain what was wrong! I asked him 3 times if he could check her for an ear infection, he told me flat out it wasn't because her ears were clean (I explained she was just at the groomer two days before so her ears were clean from that) my dog was still seemed to be in pain and still was not acting herself and was listless so I got her an appointment with her regular Vet, sure enough she had an ear infection. I'm glad it wasn't something more severe. I would have rated it lower but the rest of the staff was very kind and helpful and they did manage to squeeze her in short notice. Been going here for our 2 dogs for a little over 3 years now and just love it. They see Dr. John C. there and he's just wonderful. Every time we go in the staff are always so welcoming and nice! I have taken all of my pets to Layton Animal Hospital, from 1988 to current, I have had excellent service always, and when our 3 year old black lab was diagnosed with leukemia, Dr. Mark called me personally to give me the sad news, and you could hear the sadness and concern in his voice, he even followed up with the other medical facility we had to take Bear to. He and Missy have been wonderful to all of my pets, and my dogs are very comfortable there. They make every trip a pleasant experience and treat my dogs like they truly care about them. They always return my calls when I have a concern or question regarding their care. I've been bringing my cats here for years! Dr. John and the staff at Layton Animal Hospital do such a wonderful job. I especially like how Dr. John gives explanations without being condescending. He's pleasant, professional, down-to-earth, and he clearly loves cats. Also, he doesn't push services that we don't need. Layton Animal Hospital is amazing!! They have treated our dog for years now and have always taken the best care of him!! Yesterday he had a dental cleaning, the first ever and he's 14. I was very concerned having this done considering his age. Let me tell you Dr John was amazing at explaining everything and answering all my questions as well as my options. I've been taking my dogs to Layton Animal Hospital for over 20 years. They are great with my puppies and very sympathetic when I've had to say good-bye to my beautiful dogs. The ladies up front are a lot of fun and very patient with me and my sometimes over reactions to what I feel are life threatening issues when it turns out to be an upset stomach. This is a fabulous place to take your furry friend(s)! Dr. John is great with cats, he has a calm demeanor that puts the furball and animal guardians at ease.All the staff strive to provide the best care and be minimally invasive. I brought my cat here to check on blood in the stool and Dr. John recommended adding natural pumpkin to her diet. That did the trick! Other vets I've visited run a lot of labs and it gets expensive quick but not at Layton Animal Hospital! I've also seen Mary Frautschy and she is also kind and caring. Took my dog in because he developed an infection on his leg.  The vet never introduced herself, never even looked at the infection site or my dog, and charged almost $100 for a "check up" and a small bottle of antibiotics. How did I know this lady was even a veterinarian?  The receptionist was pleasant but the rest of the staff was very unprofessional. I have been going to this vet's office for a few years with both of my dogs and they have always been great. The front desk staff have squeezed me in on a couple of occasions when I didn't plan ahead. The vets share my philosophy of pet care so I have always felt very comfortable with their recommendations. A few months ago I had to put one of my dog's to sleep and Dr. John made things a little easier on one of the worst days of my life. I will always appreciate that. Read Less

My experiences were very similar to Emily's. The front room staff was friendly, but rather then show you back to your room, they hand you your pet's file and point you towards the hallway. I didn't enjoy that, but it's something I could easily live with for a good vet. However, I found the vet to be very impersonal during my appointments. She never introduced herself to me and she spent next to no time with me or my cat. She was in and out of the room frequently with no explanation and was talking to other people in the back about other animals at the same time as our appointments.  She didn't pet my cat, compliment him, smile at him, nothing. She asked very little questions about him and rushed through the appointments without giving me time to ask her questions. She didn't provide explanations for the treatments she was recommending and gave no information on the medicine she prescribed. When I was waiting to pay my bill after my last appointment, a gentleman came in with his deceased pet and spoke with the vet in the front. The way she handled this situation was not how I hope to be dealt with when my pets pass. She showed no warmth to this gentleman and just repeated, "Our condolences" a few times. I gave this vet multiple chances, but each experience was the same, therefore I will be looking for a new vet. I wouldn't recommend settling for her. Read Less

Worst vet I've ever been to.  Really surprising how bad!  First you wait in a tiny room for the vet where there is no place to sit down with your pet carrier.  It is not a closed off from a back hallway so it is unclear whether you can let your pet out.  The vet came in without first reviewing who I was. Not the worst thing in the world but even worse, she did not introduce herself or say hello-just asked who my animals were without even making eye contact.  The visit seemed EXTREMELY RUSHED.  I felt like I was bothering her in asking questions.  She consulted with colleagues in the hallway and  they also did not introduce themselves. Maybe it's just a personal preference, but I like to see who and what is being done to my animal.  She just literally handed my cat off to someone I didn't even see.  They don't get to know you as a client, almost no small talk. The vet didn't seem very warm toward my cats-didn't even give any compliments.  If you like that sort of doctor that is concise, cold and has no bed side manner and gets you out in 2 seconds, go here.  If you want to feel like you have any sort of rapport with your vet and like they care about each animal, this is not your place.  They should book clients further apart and focus on quality not quantity.  Maybe she knows her stuff, but not an enjoyable or professional place. I brought my cat Prince in on 8/15. He had a urinary blockage, and in bad shape. They referred me to Lakeshore . They were very compassionate and did not even charge me the emergency walk in fee. Highly recommended. Prince did end up being put to sleep. Read Less

Dr. John currently works at Layton Animal Hospital In Milwaukee.  I would say he is the best vet there, because you can tell just how much he cares about his people customers and their pets.  Dr. John takes the time to explain everything clearly, not rushing you in and out like other vets may do.  Dr. John is very compassionate and kind.  I trust my pets with him, and he has yet to let me down.
