I have been taking my dog (8 years old) to Dr. Karlburg for a little over a year now. I drive over an hour one way to take him here because we have been very impressed and grateful for his expertise and kind nature. My dog is very nervous around new people, as well as the vet. Dr. Karlburg has been great making my dog, as well as myself, comfortable. Our dog also needed a tooth removal which we were very nervous about because of his age. Dr. Karlburg took the time to sit us down, explain the procedure, and answer any questions we had (without charge!!). The front desk staff is also very nice, answers all questions when I call in, and quickly helps with requests (such as medication refill). I would highly recommend this clinic. Read Less

My family, (parents and now grown children) have been going to Dr. Karlburg for over 34 years. During that time he has treated each of us and many pets with nothing but care, compassion, and respect. His knowledge is vast and up to date. The diagnoses and concerns are straight forward, and always in the best interest of the animal. If you have any questions or concerns, never hesistate to ask. (I have been that overly concerned animal parent) If something slipped your mind during an appointment, Dr. Karlburg and the staff graciously answer all questions over the phone, and via their website/email in a timely manner. The receptionist, Tina, has also been seeing my family for over 32 years and counting. Her warm smile is contagious as you enter the clinic and I always find myself chatting away after visits. The team here has been working together for a very long time, (15+ years) It truly shows you their love and dedication for each animal, along with a great relationship they have with each pet owner and one another. As a busy person who tends to forget appointments made well in advance, I never have to worry. The office sends me a text message and confirmation email. I started going here about a year ago when my dog suddenly got a bladder infection. They were able to get me in pretty much first thing Monday morning after that Thanksgiving. She used to practice at a location much closer to my home before she moved to Beltline Animal Hospital, so we switched to Beltline because she's just that good. Dr. Karlburg is amazing! My daughter is mama to gerbils. One was having trouble with his teeth. On short notice Dr. Karlburg trimmed a tooth, gave some awesome advice and only charged $10. She had to bring the gerbil back twice: once for an injection for inflammation-no charge. The last time was to unfortunately hear there was nothing else we could do. Dr. Karlburg provided euthanasia service-no charge. He was kind, sensitive to my daughter's feelings (and mine!) and incredibly knowledgeable. He took the time to explain everything. As new clients, we are so grateful to the incredible care he provided to one of our "pocket pets". We've been going to Dr. Karlburg for both our fur-babies (going on 11 years), and he's the most knowledgeable Doc I've ever taken any of my fur-babies to. He is always patient and kind and always answers my questions, no matter how many times I call - above and beyond treatment is what you'll get. Tina is the best Vet Assistant as well, always full of kindness and is really good about answering my questions as well. They know how to calm a nervous pet-parent for sure. Dr. Pamela Sanftleben has treated our seven-year-old miniature schnauzer (and our previous schnauzer before that) through a series of ailments, so it was a big relief to find her again by repeated Googling for the past two months. Today was our happy reunion at Beltline Animal Hospital and our chance to meet new people too. Everything couldn't have gone better--easy drive going and coming, excellent facilities, everyone friendly, and same attentive care for our dog. I'm such a fan of Dr. Karlburg.  The first two vets I took my half Siamese to were totally intimidated by her cattitude.  Dr. Karlburg wasn't and was very knowledgeable.  But what won me over was when my male tabby was having  recurrent urinary issues (FLUTD).  It was totally my fault because I took him off the prescription food for a pet store brand that claimed to do the same thing.  (Never doing that again!!)  Dr. Karlburg prescribed a 30 day supplement to rebuild the lining of his bladder.  This is a treatment that not all vets use but Dr. Karlburg said he's had good luck with.   My kitty has been healthy ever since. We (myself and my dog Fiona) were treated so well at Beltline. They have great office hours and the vet is very thorough and they do not price gauge you like many other vet clinics.  Example: I took my dog in because she had been limping for a week and I didn't see any cuts or reasons for it. He recommended a x-ray or rest and restricted exercise. The x-ray would have been $600, a big chunk of money, and not even guaranteed to show the problem. He did not pressure us to do the expensive x-ray. He said yes the rest could solve the issue, that spoke volumes!  I have been here twice and have met both times people who have been happy long-time clients. When I first moved to town one of my dogs wasn't feeling too well, so I brought him here, not knowing any better. I was asked what I feed my dogs, and being a proud dog mom who's quite educated about nutrition (human & canine), I told him they ate Costco's store brand. They've eaten raw food, meaty bones, and now this for the past 2 years and been perfectly fine. Dr. Karlburg launched into a condescending speech about how I was feeding my dogs "cheap crap" (his actual words) and that they should be on a quality food like Purina One. I used to work in a university vet hospital, and it's a fact that most students get their nutrition education from PET FOOD COMPANY REPS! Can you say conflict of interest?? Do you think zookeepers feed wolves Purina One? Hell no...they eat mostly meat and some veggies. Anyone who knows a damn thing about the canine digestive tract knows that dogs need meat to thrive (the #1 ingredient in Costco brand). Dogs aren't supposed to eat yellow corn meal (the #1 ingredient in 90% of dog food out there, including Purina One). I was dumbfounded by this man's suggestion, and when I pointed out that Purina is made primarily of yellow corn meal, he became defensive! Oh, and he kept calling my dog the wrong name, and using the wrong gender. Really doc, you can't tell the difference between a male and a female dog? Then this guy had the balls to charge me $84 for Panacur, which I got a second opinion on and learned that it's ridiculously cheap...the other vet only charged $11 for the SAME dosage! I called Dr. Karlburg and asked if I could return the UNOPENED medicine for a refund and he refused, even when I told him that the other vet said the meds were uber cheap and that he was overcharging. Needless to say, I'm really surprised that this place is still in business.Being a Monona Menards regular, I drive by this clinic all the time, and there's frequently a black BMW parked diagonally in two parking spaces...which we all know is the hallmark of a total douchelord. I think it's pretty obvious how Dr. K paid for that car...with a 763% markup on goods and services. Read Less
