I brought my cat in last night as she was pretty ill and having trouble walking. The staff were very professional and freindly checking in...at about 11:30 pm. The vet provided the options for treatment, and recommended panels and xrays. The costs were very clearly explained. After heading home, we got the call there was bad news and we decided to put our sweet cat to sleep. The vet and staff were about as kind and professional as you would want for something that is hard to do. I really want to thank you all. I have no idea how someone could give this clinic a bad review. Read Less

I had to bring in a dog I was sitting for and knew very little about (adopted by her owners less than a month prior). From the second I walked in the door, to the moment I left, all of the staff were incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. The staff had to communicate both in person with me and on the phone with the owners who were out of state. Staff was endlessly patient, even though they had to explain nearly everything twice. The visit lasted three hours due to all of the speed bumps. I'm certain it might have lasted much longer if not for the excellent care and service that was delivered. Considering all of the contributing factors, this visit could have been quite difficult, but it was the exact opposite. Side note: I witnessed the staff handle a few very sad moments while I was in the waiting room. I was incredibly touched by how the staff handled each situation very seriously and with so much grace. It was apparent that the staff cared for the people as much as they cared for the pets. Read Less

My experience with WVRC Waukesha was fantastic. The doctors and staff were friendly and caring, and I felt a sense of professionalism from everyone there. The doctor was great - she didn't just throw a bunch of options at me and ask which one I wanted to pick, she gave me solid recommendations as to my cat's treatment and was upfront about the costs. Pup decided some wires would be a good chew toy, turns out they aren't. Alissa helped me induce vomiting over the phone (never had to do it before so she explained it and was very helpful in letting me know what to expect) They also got us in right away for x-rays just in case since it had copper wires inside. I have had to come in twice now (once for our kitten that had a seizure) and both times everyone has been super friendly and amazing with our fur babies. Even if another place opens up closer to where I live I will still go to the Waukesha location if I need to because you can trust everyone there. Read Less

We had to bring our new dog (only had him a week) in to WVRC due to an emergency illness.  THESE people are angels.  They treated me and my dog with such caring love and concern, I didn't hesitate to leave him in their care.  They made every effort to calm my nerves and give me the information in an easy to understand manner.  EVERYONE there from the front desk to the techs and the veterinarians have true compassion and care not only for the animals for the parents of these four legged kids.  The DOCTORS are amazing and understand that this is a financial hardship as it is an emergency and never made me feel like there wasn't another option.  I even got the chance to come visit my dog on my lunch hour and although he was confined to isolation, due to pneumonia, they gowned me up just so I could kiss my pup.  I could tell the way he reacted to all the staff that he felt as loved and safe as I did.  I would not hesitate to recommend these fine people anytime, especially in a situation where you are stressed and scared for your babies.  I love these people! I didn't have a super duper emergency but my dogs nail was completely separated from the quick and was bleeding everywhere. My regular vet couldn't get us in until later. I could tell my dog was in severe discomfort as she was very frantic and crying. I tried to stop the bleeding to no avail. So off to the ER we go! This was our very first visit and I felt a little silly as I knew there are pets with very serious cases who need to be seen before my dog. But we were lucky enough to suprisingly walk into a very warm and inviting lobby with no other pets. The receptionist was fantastic and had great customer service skills. My dog was seen in a timely fashion and discharged by the vet who was very nice as well. The bill was not as bad as I expected so that's always great! I would not hesitate to come back if need be, although I hope I don't have to, and I'd recommend these guys to anyone! Thanks for helping my Opal. Brought my cat in for what I thought might be an obstruction - think hairball gone bad. Staff was very generous with their time and asked a lot of questions prior to me coming in to make sure it was the correct fit for me. Once they realized that no local vet could squeeze her in and I would be traveling, they advised that I come to the clinic. Dr Johnson saw her and didn't feel any mass in her stomach, but ordered X-rays to double check along with blood work. She ended up having a bacterial infection which was causing the vomiting and other GI issues, so I'm  grateful he suggested labs. I had to wait to be seen, but like any ER, the more serious the issue, the more quickly you're seen. Checked in on me often to make sure cat was still stable. Great care, good follow up. Read Less

whether you graduate #1 from the best veterinary school in the nation or graduate last from the worst school, they are all called Doctor and innocent patients are left to suffer. After having my golden retriever for 21 hours and still having no diagnosis because they did nothing more than an x ray - we picked him up and took him to lake geneva animal hospital. within 20 minutes we had an ultrasound and a blood test showing his liver was failing because he had Lepto. Do not entrust your loved one with these jokers. they failed to do basic baseline tests and to call them incompetent doesn't begin to tell the story. We lost a precious 24 hours where he could and should have been on an IV of antibiotics to treat the lepto - which can be fatal. Dr. Meghan Glazer and Dr. Karch should both lose their licenses. To make matters worse, the clinic director did not return my call to address my demand for a full refund for the money I paid in advance and in good faith in the expectation of competent care. Not only is Dr. Kari Severson, their "Emergency Director" rude and condescending, the doctors are completely incompetent.  Their level of ineptitude is off the charts.  At 7pm Tuesday night I brought my Golden Retriever in because he wasn't eating and told them there may be a blockage because I found a half eaten box of Band Aids.  I paid them $900 in advance and he stayed the night for further testing.  I filled out a CPR card and instructed them to do everything they can to keep him alive. 21-TWENTY ONE- hours and two XRays later, they still had no diagnosis, still didn't see any sign of a blockage and still hadn't done an ultrasound.   We picked him up (extremely frustrated) and brought him to Lake Geneva Animal Hospital.  The owner came in after hours to see us.  Within 30 minutes he completed an ultrasound ) (with no anesthesia) and tested his blood.  He did not have a blockage, he has LEPTO, a potentially fatal bacterial infection of the liver.  He immediately started my dog on intravenous antibiotics and kept him the night.  WVRC never did a basic blood test.  They never considered that there may be something other than the band aids that was keeping my dog from eating and despite being an emergency clinic, they don't have anyone in the office who can do an ultrasound on a dog without putting him fully under by an anesthesiologist.  If Dr. Karch and Dr were even half way competent, they would have done a blood test after seeing no blockage on the x ray and would have known to put him on antibiotics 24 hours earlier. This was not a complicated or rare diagnosis and they jeopardized my dog's life. He is still in the hospital and all they want to do is give me the typical excuses and platitudes.   Natalie (below) thanks so much for your smug, canned response. this is not about me finding a facility I am "more comfortable" with or the fact that my dog can't "talk" to me. This is about your facilities inability to run a basic diagnostic blood test on a dog who isn't eating and has no sign of a blockage.  You failed in the basic standard of care that is veterinary 101.  Your "doctors" did not find a diagnosis because they didn't try the most basic of tests.  They let him sit in a cage for 21  hours while his liver deteriorated while leaving me a voicemail that he was "clinically fine" and then had the never to run my credit card for $900 for services NOT rendered.  Let's be clear and save your B.S. remarks.  Karch, Glazer, and the "panel" of "doctors" who reviewed my dogs case should have their licenses revoked and Severson needs a class in how to handle adverse customers - because all she and you know how to do is make things worse and escalate the situation. Even then, I could smell the urine on her. I was beyond disgusted. I am in the medical field and can't even imagine this happening to a human, let alone my dog who is my family. I would never want my dog to go back here again. Read Less

After reading negative remarks I was very worried when my vet, who I trust completely, wanted me to take my dog here for an oppinion on what was happening with my dog.  He had either an abcess or tumor going on that my vet was more comfortable having WVRC handle.  It was explained how they had the right xray machines and trained vets for that particular problem and were set up for whatever is needed.  Like all good owners, I checked it out on line and found these negative remarks on yelp.  I am glad I have gone ahead and trusted my vet over reading these remarks.  What I did find when I went was a very professional staff.  The vets and the assistants are just wonderful.  I could not have been treated better and neither could my dog.  I did talk to others in the lobby and not one had a negative experience.  There were repeat clients there as well.  I saw all kinds of dogs in all kinds of conditons enter and leave.  The compassion overwhelmed me that was given to owners and their loved pets.  Bottom line is I would feel very confident saying this is a loving, caring, safe, place to take your loved pet.  I also understand how hard it is when your pet is ill and the emotions are strong dealing with what to do, what can you afford, and how far do you want to go with it all.  I did not find the expence jacked up in any way nor did I experience any additional charges that I did not approve or want done.  I actually was surprised how understanding and considerate they were to the "pocket book".  Please trust your vet when they suggest that this is the best place for a pet in need, they are the best and 24/7 available for the slightest of needs and questions. This is a referral center for when your pet needs surgical or other complex intervention, not a typical emergency pet center. I can't say I'm surprised by the first reviewer's complaints, and it's good for others to know that this is not likely a place for a drop in it emergency diagnostics. But they have very talented and skilled specialty veterinarians who did an excellent  job on my active 12 yr old dog's TPLO surgery to repair her torn ACL! I would recommend  any of the 3 WVRC (Waukesha, Grafton, Racine) for surgery referrals from your regular vet. Read Less

Where to begin!? I took a sick cat here because nothing else was open yet. I woke up to find him dehydrated, throwing up and too weak to move and knew I had to get him somewhere ASAP. He had been slightly under the weather the day before and not eating that day but changed drastically in one night. When I got to the place, they went over what tests they would b running. Pretty typical stuff, blood and urine. Advised me it would take a couple hours to get results so i should leave him there and wait for the call...I started to get suspicious when they mentioned that depending on those results he may need xrays or an ultrasound and wanted me to commit to that and pay in advance just in case it was needed. I did cuz at this point I'm just really concerned about the pet but after leaving and having time to think I just knew he was getting that ultrasound whether he needed it or not cuz they had my money. When a couple hours went by and i hadnt heard anything I called...i was told they still were waiting for all the results but they had determined he would need the ultrasound and they recommended he b hospitalized overnite w a fluid iv for about $650 more than what ive spent so far...based on what???? Then they call and say they believe its cancer and start throwing all these different tests and possible surgery at me. At this point they had done NOTHING to make him feel better, no IV, no pain meds, NOTHING, just recommended test after test! By now his regular vet was open. We had all test results sent to them...they felt it was pancreatitus not cancer and i immediately took him to that vet after spending $530 for nothing at this place. He's being treated for pancreatitus and doing great now. After the fact 3 people i spoke to told me of their similar bad experiences here, wish I would have known earlier, Hard as it would have been to wait it out, i would have waited a couple hours and gotten him to a place where I knew their main concern was him and not just getting as much $$ as possible out of someone first.

This morning, Thanksgiving day, when everywhere is closed, WVRC in Racine helped me over the phone and anticipated my arrival, bringing in my cat who had to be euthanized. The ladies at the office were all so very nice and caring and let me and my daughter be a part of the process of losing our princess kitty. Thank you so much. It was affordable to bring comfort to her so she wouldn't suffer through the weekend and they were respectful that was my decision, and didn't try to force costly life saving procedures to me. I'll definitely use their services again if needed. Read Less

On Saturday, October 8th we had to bring our beloved cat Spooky in to end her suffering. We had been thinking about this and hoping we would not have to make that decision. But that day we knew it was time. It was the hardest decision and we are heartbroken. She was 19 years old. Thank you to the staff at the Racine office for being there when we needed you and for your wonderful care and compassion. Read Less

It is wonderful to have such excellent care available twenty four hours here in Waukesha. From the folks at the front desk to the doctors, everyone was professional yet warm and concerned for my cat's welfare. I would recommend them highly. I have only needed a pet emergency room three times in the last twenty years, but my experience with WVRC has been absolutely the best. Read Less

We had our 5 year old Shitzu in, our 1st visit in Grafton at 11:00 at night for severe vomiting and lethargic behavior. Dr. Isaacson(Molly) and our Tech Libby, were outstanding in their treatment and care of our precious dog. I, was a basketcase, fearing the worst and never ever having any illness problems with our dog or any experience with an emergency Vet hospital. I cannot rave enough about the care he received and the thoughtfulness and compassion that was shown to my dog, my husband and myself...Hats off the the Grafton Veterinary Emergency hospital. Our dog was treated with fluids, shots and released. He was much better the next day and now is back to normal. They. even, followed up with a courtesy call to check on his well being.. There are not enough stars to show our appreciation of this outstanding hospital. Nancy and Skip WilliamsRead Less

They worked my dog in no problem and gave out pricing early so I could decide when I could work in surgery best for him and my budget with no surprises! They are also super thoughtful and even check in on your dog after you get them home to know they are doing okay! I also loved that after surgery I was able to stop in and see him before going home for bed that night! Being a dog Mom that meant the world to me to see him when we rarely spend nights apart! We unexpectedly took our cat here about 2 weeks ago at 10:30pm where he saw Dr. Wiedmeyer at the Racine location. The entire staff was friendly and welcoming during our stressful situation. Unfortunately, Monster ended up crossing the rainbow bridge that night, but Dr. Wiedmeyer was very reassuring that we made the correct decision and in explaining all of our options. We even received a hand written sympathy card with poem and paw print of flowers from the staff a few days later. Read Less

We took our dog here after she had surgical wound complications from getting spayed. Our normal vet refused to give our dog any form of anesthetic because it was after 3pm and asked us to hold our dog down so they could staple her shut... Anyways after leaving our psycho vet, we rushed to WVRC. The staff was amazing, caring and extremely helpful. They really understood what we were going through as pet owners and were compassionate to our worrying. We also went back for staple removal and our dog was in and out in less than 20 minutes. I highly recommend this business! Read Less

Our cat was mauled by a dog and we called ahead to let them know we were coming.  They were at the door waiting for us and rushed her back.  I can't comment to much on the medical care because she was so badly injured she was probably DOA.  I will say that they were complete professionals and were wonderful through the process. I have had to take my dog here several times. Every time they were unable to tell me what was wrong with my dog. They were very slow as well. I had to drop off my dog's medications and wanted to see her as well. It took them 10 minutes to bring her to me. When the tech brought her back, they told me that she peed in her kennel and that they "try to take them out". They had to clean her up before bringing her to me.
