Doesn't matter about their expertise or professionalism. The doc goes out of town for 2 weeks at a time and her backup plan is to go see another vet or take your pet to an emergency room. My dog was seen on the 29th, today is the 8th, he's getting worse every day and still no response from the doctor. That sucks. I would give them 0 stars if that was an option. Read Less

If I could rate zero stars, I certainly would. I have been using this clinic since they opened, about 34 years ago. I have referred countless friends to them as well. Today, I took my very sick cat there for emergency assistance. Since the situation was extreme, I arrived when they opened at 9:00 am, figuring they would sneak me in as soon as possible. I was advised that there was not going to be ANY doctors in today. On a Wednesday. No doctors! One of the employees reached for a phone to call a doctor to come in for the emergency. The other employee shook her head and referred me to the emergency clinic in Grafton instead. This was not acceptable. In the past, Dr Bauman has come in for an emergency. Today, no attempt was made whatsoever to help us. I asked for a copy of my cat's file, stating I would never be back, and all I got was "OK." While waiting for those copies, I called another Vet clinic that I had never been to, and they said even with a full schedule I could bring my cat in immediately. I sincerely regret EVER referring Decorah Animal Hospital to anyone. The cold and callous manner I was treated with made me feel even worse considering the dire situation I was facing. Heartless. I'm saddened by how much time, energy, and money I gave them. Shameful...tragic how this once great place has gone downhill. You may have a good experience, providing your pet only gets sick Monday - Friday from 9-5, or Saturday mornings, except Wednesdays when no doctors are there.Read Less

We brought our dog there for a couple of years, never impressed but they were close. They mis-diagnosed him with hip dysplasia. We paid them $50 a month for a year for the pain meds only to find out from another vet he had Spinal Degeneration. I don't know if they lied to profit off of us, or if they were incompetent, either way, I will never go there again.Read Less

They have all treated us & our Animal with respect & love. They are all awesome & friendly & Dr. Baumann is the best vet I have every dealt with. She tells it to you straight up, no sugar coating as she says & I deeply respect that. The dogs like them all as well. Love them all. Read Less

What a great place to have a dog fixed. They did a great job with our Dega and we were able to call and see how she was doing. We picked her up and she seems like nothing happened. They treated her so well! Read Less

I LOVE this hospital. This is the only place I would trust my pets to, unless they have a recomendation for specialized treatment. They know their stuff. The staff is wonderful and they try to help find more cost-effective alternatives when possible. They may not sugar-coat the problems, but they have all the right answers.Read Less

Only one experience here. Horrible! Dr. Baumann is rude and unhelpful, especially if she doesn't like your breed of dog. She actually accused me of abusing my dog because he snapped at the tech when she was drawing blood when he was sick! Stay away from this place! Read Less

The other reviews are describing the retired vet. There are two vets at Decorah, Dr. Rollmann and Dr. Ferguson, and they are both great with animals (good beside manner) and with people. They are very up to date and if you need a referral for something more complex, they won't hesitate to run down the doctors or surgeons you need. The desk staff is very professional and friendly. I can't speak highly enough of these folks. I've seen a lot of vets in my day and Dr. Rollman especially is golden, as is the vet tech Dave Vogt who is practically as knowledgeable as a regular veterinarian. The prices are reasonable. My only grump with these guys is that I wish they would carry Royal Canin food. Lovely people. Read Less
