It's been 14 years that I've been going to the Animal Health Clinic in NDG with my cats and dog. When my dog had a life-threatening back injury we were lucky that I could take him to see Dr. Gilmore who over the years I had grown to trust completely in his knowledge, and compassion care. ❤ He has also at times informed me when a treatment isn't necessary, or respectfully helped me weigh treatment options. At times making treatment decisions can be so difficult. So having a vet that you trust completely makes all the difference. Read Less

Not impressed with this place. Could never get a proper follow-up and felt brushed off and ignored----not to mention I don't appreciate being charged a re-check fee to be essentially ushered out in 10 minutes with nothing really done at all. Went and got a second opinion (because I got tired of waiting for weeks for someone to call me back) and am not coming back to this place. Kitty is actually doing much better and has an attentive vet now who calls regularly to keep an eye on her allergies and skin conditions. Yes this clinic was closer than the one I go to now, but proximity isn't worth it. Most of the raving reviews here turned out to be for vets who don't work there anymore, but I guess it was a learning experience. Read Less

I love the vet techs here. Even the receptionists are knowledgeable and give some advice, which really helps put you at ease. They do an excellent job of following up and it's such a comfortable atmosphere. It helps that it's across from a grooming salon and dog park too! Read Less

This place is amazing!!! The clinic took my sister and her beloved dog in without an appointment. My sister's dog was having cluster seizures😢. They did everything they could to save my sister's fur baby in January. Unfortunately Taylor didn't make it😢. The staff were so compassionate and understanding. I recommend this place 100%. Honestly probably one of the best vets in montreal! Their prices are much more reasonable than any other clinic i've been to. My tom cat nearly passed away from a urine blockage and they saw him right away even tho i didn't have an appointment. My kitty was hospitalized for about 4 days and they knew i couldn't afford to spend thousands of dollars, so they worked with my budget. This place honestly cares more about the animals than the money, staff is very nice and i don't think i'll ever change vets quite frankly! Read Less

It's with regret that I give such a low rating for this clinic. They are professional, polite and I know they care. However, despite my having 4 dossiers with them ( three cats and one dog) it has been three times that they have not had enough room for either emergencies or simple nail cuttings. 1. my old cat had terrible teeth problems and was not eating. When I asked if I could have an appointment to check her teeth, they gave me an appointment 2 and a half weeks later. She was unable to eat and despite me saying this, they said this was all they had. I went to another vet who saw her on the spot and operated on her the next day. 2. My dear old cat with multiple toes was in desperate need of a nail clipping because they were piercing his paw. They gave me an appointment weeks later - all I needed was a technician. When I said this was unacceptable and that I would have to find another vet, the receptionist said, "yes, I would suggest you find another vet" ... which I did - same vet as above, my old vet from off the island. 3. Same cat with multiple toes - this past Tuesday (it's Thursday tonight), I came home to find him unable to walk. I phoned the Animal Health Clinic and despite the obvious emergency said they had no availability. On the same phone call, another tech came on the phone and said that they did not accept emergencies. I have FOUR dossiers with them. I have been with them for years. I took my dear cat to another vet (same as above) who saw him on the spot and I had to put him down Tuesday night. High blood pressure and racing heart resulting in multiple strokes - enlarged heart. He was 18 years old. I am quite disgusted and terribly, terribly disappointed with this clinic. It is obvious that they care more to fill their appointment sheet and it is obvious that they cannot accommodate their own clientele..... humans, I mean. They are forgetting about their real clients, the animals. I am disgusted with their philosophy of saying to me go elsewhere... so I suggest to you - you, too, go elsewhere if you are thinking about going the Animal Health Clinic simply because it is a convenient vet in NDG. This place has been my dog's vet for the past 7 years, but I will no longer bring her there. I called them up because I noticed my dog's teeth were rotting, so the clinic told me to bring her in. Upon inspection they did confirm the teeth were rotting BUT can't fix it because they don't have a vet in their staff to do teeth extraction. Instead they referred me to a outside specialist who is too overqualified for such a simple procedure and quoted too much. I called around 3 other vets in the area and they all were able to do the procedure in-house and quoted much less. I essentially wasted $80 bringing my dog to the animal health clinic. They should told me before coming in to go to a different clinic because they don't have a Vet in their staff able to do such a procedure. Read Less

If you care about your pet do not use this clinic. They cannot guarantee that one vet will call you back or that your elderly cat will get the follow up they need. Nice clinic with mostly great service. The last two times i went for a follow-up to an issue with my dog, the vet didn't charge me any visit fees, which I appreciated a lot. They are also not pushing medication unnecessarily and for the most part seem genuine about they healthcare practice. It's a busy clinic, so getting an appointment can sometimes be tricky and expect to wait-10-15 minutes for your turn even if you show up on time. Read Less

Could not overstate my satisfaction. I have never been to a vet clinic I felt comfortable trusting with my animals. Not only did they perform a miracle to save my cats leg, but I could tell the veterinary and the staff genuinely care for the animals in their care. When it came time to pay I was shocked to see how much they had helped me out in keeping he bill low. I would drive an hour out of my way to bring my animals here after the experience I had. This is as honest as I can be. I've been bringing my dog to this clinic his entire life. He's almost 13. I researched Dr. Gilmour before seeing him and at the time he was considered the best vet in the city. I believe he still is. The clinic has gotten bigger and they have more staff. I have noticed that there is a difference now when I call - it's not as ... friendly, specifically if you're speaking with someone who doesn't know you. But even if it is ultra-professional (i.e. cold), and while I miss the comfort of knowing that a friendly voice will handle my usually panicked calls (to be fair to myself, there are only a couple of those a year), I have accepted that it's now like any other doctor's office. You MAY have to walk on eggshells with whoever answers the phone, so keep your cool and just try to stay calm. They will help you if you keep your anxiety and emotions to yourself. (Which is not easy when your beloved pet is ill :-( ) I am assuming that they've had to deal with difficult people and as a result they've changed their attitudes. BUT, they are still, 100%, an excellent clinic. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Gilmour - I trust him, my dog trusts him, I would not go see anybody else. He is smart, intuitive, honest, he follows up, he cares. I've also dealt with Dr. Seto and another guy - can't remember his name - and they were excellent. Thus the five stars. In terms of veterinary care, the animal health clinic has been great to us. They are always very kind to our dog, who loves to snuggle with everyone at the clinic who will let her. However, after her spay surgery, I was sent home with four syringes for pain medication, and was told to give my dog one per day for four days. She started having severe diarrhea and I thought this was strange as it continued into day 2. I checked the prescription more closely and did some research, only to discover that EACH dose of medication was FOUR TIMES the maximum dose for her size. Upon contacting the vet surgeon, Dr. Alex, in the middle of the night on Sunday, he was so gracious as to respond immediately and offer me a morning consultation and a free blood test. Thank goodness, the results were fine, but had I not noticed the incorrectly measured dosage, according to clinical studies this medication could have permanently damaged my dog's kidneys or even killed her, especially as she is still a baby. In sum, I am very happy with the way we were treated, even after this mistake. However, if anything was wrong with my dog, I certainly would not have been happy and would have pursued legal action. I do recommend these vets as they are great at their jobs, but the technician's mistake was unacceptable nevertheless, so I would suggest you review EVERY medication they give you and insist to learn about the potential side effects and get everything confirmed and double checked by the vet before you leave... and then check it again before you give it to your animal. We will continue to use the animal health clinic in the future, and I'm sure that they will understand that my honest review was necessary in this case, as my dog could have endured very unnecessary suffering if I had not noticed the mistake, and it is my duty to inform other families with animals of my experience. Moreover, I would like to add that, while several people that work at the clinic stopped by the room to check on my dog, the technician did not come by to offer apologies. Perhaps they were not available that morning, but I would have expected a courtesy call and a sincere apology at the very least. Read Less

Trust this place with your beloved pets.     Honestly, they are caring and kind and know everything.    They take incredible care of all of my friends' dogs and cats as well as my two Chihuahuas and I've never heard a single bad word about them.Yes, vets are expensive but this one charges the same as all the others.If you're looking for a compassionate, professional and sweet vet, look no further.
