The people that work here are awesome. Front office staff very friendly. Back-office staff very understanding of a biting dog, helped us to muzzle him, to give him his vaccinations. I love that they do a monthly shot clinic that's a little bit more reasonable than going to the regular vet's office. I will continue to get my dog's vaccinations and heartworm at this location. I recently moved to Nevada City from the Bay Area and needed a vet to remove a walnut size tumor from my cat's (Shyla) shoulder. Dr. Strolle and staff did such a great job that I don't see or feel any scar tissue at all (it was a pretty big incision). The staff is not just professional, but friendly and knowledgeable . There are not enough good things to say about this vet clinic. They are warm, professional, caring and knowledgeable. Dr. Strolle has helped us thru quite a few emergencies and end of life situations and every time he is compassionate, truthful and caring. All of our visits, for well critter exams or for sick animals have been very informative and the cost has always been fair.We recently had an emergency visit with Dr. Susan and found her to have the same way of practicing medicine. We always receive follow up calls from either the staff or the Doctors asking about the critters. That kind of concern and warmth is an extra bonus along with the great medical care. The front office staff is the best, always compassionate, sharing a tear or a chuckle. We are so grateful to have found this clinic. Read Less

My boyfriend brings his dogs here and everytime I've stepped foot into this establishment has been a wonderful experience. The receptionists are kind and professional, the facility is unique and clean, the techs are friendly and approachable, and the vets are very thorough. We came in once on a very busy day, there was an emergency and the staff worked together as a team to make sure everything kept running smoothly. The young blonde at reception handled the chaotic situation very calmly. One tech with shorter brown hair and hot pink scrubs has roomed us multiple times and goes out of her way to make us comfortable. She is great with the dogs and always smiling, it feels like she genuinely cares about us and our pets. She is excited to see us and never fails to remember details about our last visit, it's nice to feel like more than a client. The female vet is very knowledgeable and gentle with our dogs, she keeps us well informed and educated. Strongly recommend this vet clinic! Read Less

Yes, I'm one of THOSE owners: my dog is my child. I took her to a different vet each time until I took her here. What I like about Best Friends is that they LISTENED and ADDRESSED my concerns with intelligence and practicality. They showed compassion in getting my dog in last minute so she wouldn't be in discomfort through the weekend, the Vets there conduct themselves professionally and intelligently while maintaining respect for my decisions as the owner. AWFUL EXPERIENCE with this particular tech (who's name sounds like TYRANNY apt to say the least. Tiernay? unsure of spelling) put a rope around my dogs neck attaching it to itself not the collar (which sinches up as we know) and was choking her out trying to drag her to the back room. My dog, is the sweetest most amazing angel on this Earth does NOT NEED to be dragged like that PERIOD she listens perfectly well the entire thing just shook my dog up even more. Was hoping to remove the foxtail WITHOUT THE EXPENSE of SEDATION but after the being traumatized by this tyrant is going to need to be sedated. I am OUTRAGED. anyone who knows my dog is shocked by this I have been spreading the word on this appalling practice. I feel that woman should not work with animals PERIOD> I am beyond upset, and WILL NEVER COME BACK TO THIS PLACE. I will never put my best friend through that again. ABSOLUTELY UNECESSARY to treat her like that. As she dragged her seeing my dogs discomfort I went up to her and scoffed "please do not choke my dog, here, I will do this she responds just fine to commands and will come where u tell her don't need to drag her" I took the leash from the "tech" and led her to the back room. I would not let that girl touch her again. I am so disturbed. "Best Friends" I hope this is read and appropriate measures taken and she experiences appropriate consequences for this atrocious behavior. Like never being able to work with animals again. OMG....the absolute best vet in the world. They are caring, professional , and reasonable!!!!! They were the only ones that healed my 14 year old gold retriever and figured out his problem. I really love the service, staff, and doctors at Best Friends Animal Clinic. I found Best Friends on Yelp and I drove all the way from the Bay Area to try them out. I was more than happy with the service, the people, and the care they did for my dogs. Two of my dogs had surgery. One was a teeth extractions and cleaning and the other had mammary tumors in her breast and they had to be removed. Both of them were wagging their tail when I picked them up. They were walking around and eating on their own a few hours later. I was really happy with the procedure and the outcome. The last time I took my dog to another vet to get a tooth extraction, she came back in A LOT of pain. For some reason she had spinal pain and her whole body was cramping. She would scream if we touched her and this lasted for more than 1 week. We brought her back many times and to different vets and they didn't know what happened. So I was really scared to take any of my dogs to a new vet but now I am very very happy I found Dr. Strolle at Best Friends.You can tell the doctors and the staff at Best Friends are very genuine. They enjoy what they do and they love animals. I have told many people about Best Friends and if they have any surgery needed for their pets, just make the drive to Grass Valley. It's a 3 hour drive for me (one way), but it's worth every minute to make sure they have the best quality veterinary service. You can also check out Nevada City about 5 minutes away. Best of the best. My husband and I take all of our animals here. Bottom line....they care. They don't pretend to care, they genuinely do. They love your animal as if it was their own. They treated one of our dogs for hearrworm, did ACL surgery on another, and do all of our routine shots and check ups. They are absolutely top notch. We are so grateful to have them in this area. I was looking for a new Vet and I am so happy that I choose Best Friends. The staff was genuinely happy to meet my dog and they took the time to listen to all of my concerns. The office is in a nice location - plenty of outside area. The inside of the office was very comfortable and didn't have the sterile feel many vet's offices do. We saw Dr. Curtis and she took all the time needed to fully answer our questions and address our concerns. Three weeks ago, our 11 year old black and tan coonhound started coughing up blood. We brought her here after several friends recommend Best Friend's to us. We were able to get a same day appointment to bring her in. The vet that saw her thought we were dealing with a case of heartworms. When the heartworm test came out negative, an x Ray was ordered. .unfortunately we found that she had a lot of tumors in both of her lungs. The vet said that we should take a few days to decide what to do. She said that it was possible to do more tests to find out where else the cancer had metastasized to but there was no treatment available to her. Our hearts were broken. We were lucky enough to have 3 more weeks with her. Yesterday, we had to take her in to be put to sleep. Dr. Stolle was great. He was so caring and loving. He even offered to perform the injection outside in the garden area at the office. It was a very difficult day but Dr. Stolle really helped make the bet out of the sad situation. He even helped carry Ronnie back out to the car so we could go take her to be buried. I highly recommend Best Friends. I will be going there in the future for any veterinarian services we have. Really happy I decided to change vets. The first thing I noticed here is the relaxed and experienced nature of the facility. The staff is very friendly and they seem to have a lot of experience doing their job. The Dr's are extremely relaxed and professional as well. Very friendly staff. They do great with morbidly obese cats and flatulent Rottweilers. The doctors here are very friendly and great with my geriatric pets. I have not had any bad experiences with these guys, and would suggest them to anyone looking for friendly, compassionate, veterinary care. I found an injured quail on the side of the road a while back and took him in here to see if they could stitch him up; they were more than happy to try and help and would not accept any money from me for their services. My family and I moved up here in August of 2010 after living in Sacramento for the last 20 years. Over the years we came to regard all veterinarian offices as the same; cold, incompetent businesses that could care less about your animal or you the client. Everything has changed for us since we found Best Friends Animal Clinic here in Grass Valley. Every single person on their staff is warm, sweet, competent and knowledgeable. Dr. Melanie Curtis is like one of those awesome vets you would only see in a movie. She and the staff took such exceptional care of our 10 year old Great Dane (Rufus) who has cancer. Because of them we were able to have a at least a little more time with him. Not only did 3 or 4 staff members come in one at a time to see Rufus, they would sit on the floor and just love on him. They truly are the definition of animal lovers and we will always be grateful to them.**NOTE** I wrote this review for "Best Friends animal Clinic" one year ago and my family and I still stand by it and don't foresee it changing anytime soon. Today (1/20/2012) my wife and I had to take our Jack Russell Terrier in for what seemed to us to be a very serious problem. We saw Dr. Tom Strolle this time and just like with his co-partner Dr. Melanie Thompson Curtis, He was also very friendly and knowledgeable and just an all-around genuine person. He did a very thorough diagnosis and thankfully put our minds at ease.If you're happy with your current vet, that's great, consider yourself fortunate. If you're not or your looking for the first time, then please consider choosing Best Friends Animal Clinic, for your sake and most importantly for your animals' sake. They really are the real thing and their costs are very fair as well. About this one star review on here, well, all I can say is it sounds VERY FISHY and it's in stark contrast to our personal experience with Best Friends. After dealing so many of the vets in Sacramento, perhaps the one star reviewer needs to take her pet down there and gain a clearer perspective on how things really can be. We had recentley discovered that our dog had tumors in her stomach, the first vetinary clinic we took her to suggusted that they could simply operate on her and remove the tumors, and of course the cost was extremely high $4,000. We had a gut feeling that this doctor was not going to do very much and basically just wanted our money. We went to Best Friends Animal Clinic after a high recomendation of a Family Friend. We live in San Pablo, CA mind you and to travel an hour and a half for our dog and to also recieve the care we got was well worth it.Dr. Strolle took his time, and led us through what was going on with our dog. She indeed had tumors in her stomach, but she wasn't going to last very long since these tumors were growing by the minute. He was honest and sincere and that is what we needed. He gave us medcine and prepared us for the worst. We went to Best Friends once of month so that Dr. Strolle could monitor her tumors. They would enlarge, and then they would shrink. It was a guessing game but Beauty lived her life to the fullest until the end. Beauty lived for 6 more months, (the first doctor said she would die within the next 2 months if he didn't perform surgery). She passed away peacefully in my Father's arms.I cannot thank the staff & Tom Strolle enough for what they did to our beloved family dog Beauty! He prepared us for the un-eventful day that she would pass, and I appreciate his honesty in letting us know she wasn't going to be around very long. It was a hard but easy transition at the end.
